  1. Daytime temps will be around 3-4C around the CET area as a rough guide and -2 to -6 quite widespread but dry for a lot of the uk with only the SE getting some snow on this run. Uppers may well be below -10C in the SE at times but high pressure could cap the convective potential a fair bit.

For the SE/ Far South/ Channel Islands the excitement is understandable.

However for most of the UK it looks rather cold and clear. It would have generated more excitement a few years back but this was because we went through an unprecedented amount of warmer then average winter months coinciding with a lack of snowfall from 1988 - 2008.

Yes, definitely precipitation is going to be the key thing here. Needs to be strong flow or divergence will cap precipitation, adding to the high pressure profile.

  2. So, in my profile there are a few words highlighted that when you scroll over them a drop down ad appears. Where did they come from as I didn't put them there?

Even to the left and just below my avatar were it says "Weather and member watching expert". The word weather has it too.

Anyone any clues and can it be removed?

Nevermind, they have dissapeared for some reason.

  3. Well, NEO site saying this:

    http://www.jpl.nasa....elease=2013-061

interesting to note the size and that they say it was ment to graze the atmosphere (so possible that gravity forced it to strike). Still though, Russia will have a better idea of what the circumstances are regarding this at the moment.

I say "ment" like they knew about it, but they actually said looks like it was going to graze, or something to that effect.

  4. While the weather is cold and miserable outside, lets discuss plans for a meet-up.

Had a message from Skywatcher and she gave me some ideas for places (hope she doesn't mind me sharing) and dates probably around April.

http://www.killyhevlin.com as an example of the good offers around in Enniskillen/Fermanagh (look at the £79 option). Something wild and wacky, eg, hiring a yurt? Rathlin Island? (not hiring it, lol, but going to it - vey nice hotel there). Dundalk? On the grounds that it's on the Enterprise route and using a webfare would only be £10 to reach any destination en route and it's half way?

Any chance of getting Su Campu along for a teach-in? Or (ahem) perhaps you doing one?

We have a large tent which can might be useful for someone. It's a VERY large tent, so if there are a few people who are short of cash they could use this as long as we could find a farmer and a field, which I'm sure we could, or a cheap campsite.

We could make it a day thing or an overnight thing. Pints and pub lunch then some entertainment in the eve? Maybe a day trip to somewhere. Maybe we could get BFTV to play guitar for us. gathering.gif

  5. Glacier point .You did make a good point with the ensembles from GFS.

But look the BOM model , its great run.

A block , a NE wind , end a POLAR low is sinking from the north towards the UK.

This you can print it out en hang it at your living room.

Glacier Point was pretty much agreeing that an Atlantic block of some kind looks good. No need to hang anything anywhere.

In regards to the Eastward shift of things overnight, I wouldn't be surprised to see another shift East with the days runs bringing just a marginal fare for those in the East of the UK. Problem is, if they haven't perfected the slider interest, beyond that isn't really going to be "reliable" as it usually is. Could be a dumping on the cards, could be more snow in my fridge.

  6. I liked the meto modified precip charts for Sunday-Monday that Fergie posted. Might be if that was close to reality, that we'd get some snow for the first time this winter...

The rest of the country had had some, why can't we???

Or maybe I should try reverse psychology... I don't want any snow!

Did you's see that Teits wasn't too happy about the precipitation and snow risk being further West? He may be right with the Eastern bias, but if Meto knew their models had a bias like that they'd surely call it themselves.

  7. From the radar that likes like it for this area though showers are still coming through futher south.

The low pressure system begins to move South and bring with it a milder uppers period, that's why the Meto are saying showers turning to rain today then turning wintry again. Overnight tonight. Precipitation will be less widespread though as the uppers won't be as cold as last night. Last night was rare in that we seen the -10 line come in off the Atlantic. I seen the heaviest snow I've had since 1995.

  8. Looking forward to the upcoming events. Pity its not at the weekend but who knows what the future may bring.

PS anybody know stuff about dmx lighting and sound desk etc? Looking at a fairly big purchase of stuff and could do with some friendly advice.

What's it for Baltic? I think Ronan could be of help. I think he DJ's. I've used Sound desks before and set them up (used to roadie) but not really pro at it.
