  1. so my 52mph wind gusts never came last night lol!!! I was up and down looking out the window every 2 minutes staring at trees that didnt sway. I went outside and like 2 hairs gently floated in the 5mph breeze hahahaha. I got LOADS of rain though, so thats cool. I least i got some type of weather. Hurray! OK, so now Friday storm has no wind for Nottingham at all, but what is this I see on the charts?????? is it??..............could it be??????........................IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS SNOW!!!!!!!!

So if snow came out of friday I would be BEAMING. I have given up on wind now. Unless my gust chart says like 97mph, Then I dont believe it anymore. :nonono: It needs to say 97mph for me to get 57mph gusts i reckon, so it can take its poxy 50mph gusts and shove it up its..... well, YOU KNOW!! lol!!

  2. morning CRIMSON SPRITE , if you dont get the gales you might get the snow ,plenty of natures mix about this week . hope you sort youre wind thing out .just had a look at sat pic WOW , FRIDAYS LOW IN MY OPPINION COULD GO 150/200 MILES OUT ON CURRENT PREDICTIONS ,OF CHRISTMAS SHOPPING NOW WILL CATDH UP TONIGHT ,A BIT OF RADAR WATCHING ,REGARDS LEGRITTER :clapping:

OOOOHHHHHHH Snow would be mighty nice indeedy!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, i see the 06z now showing nothing notable wind-wise for my area for Friday (yes i know that this is just 1 run and is likely to change about 56 zillion times before Friday) but if the 06z run pulled off, then i would look to get some nice snow for friday which would be far yummier!!!!!

Deffo worth watching the storms closely. Tonight should be briefly wild for me (fingers crossed) deffo snuggle under the duvet weather!!!!

  3. That's Tuesday's chart.

    Friday's covers the whole country.

    OHHH!!!! My bad....

don't get me wrong folks, I dont want to have total annihilation to the country with some of the forecast winds! my only gripe is that my gust chart seems to be on some kind of happy pills when it forecasts my wind gusts for storms, so I know that I need it to say like 80mph gusts for it to start strewing trash all over the street. But I know in reality, if I had TRUE 50mpg wind gusts, that would be just fine. LOL!! Its just my gust forcast thingy-ma-dingy saying 50 when its more like 25.... :D

I think you will get a windy wake up in the night (unless you stay up of course). As for model runs, this latest one for tornado and shear is an 'upgrade' if you like (I'm not a fan of that word TBH)

    gfs_stp_eur24.png

lol! that would be ironic.... talk about localised wind!!! Tornado hitting my house.....

    tornado.jpg

here ya go Crimson!!!! all the wind ya want!!!

    ok,, too much.....

  4. hmmmm....?????? :cc_confused: I have just looked at the 0z GFS this morning and my friday storm of 70mph wind gusts for the majority of the day has vanished to wind gusts of 43mph and down to the upper 30mph range for most of the day. Where has my storm gone? Nottingham is indeed in a weatherless zone. I hate this city. And before everyone jumps down my throat at once and crashes netweather's server, saying the storm is still there (of course it is I know that :p ) I have found that when my local forecast says winds of 45mph, and I go outside in that, it literally is more like 25 mph gusts not 45 mph gusts. When my forcast says Im going to get gusts like that, I have not even seen a single wheelie bin move, fall over or budge. There were no branches broken or twigs on the ground, or small puppies flying through the air. Last weeks storm that hit Scotland said I would have gusts of winds in the 40mph-50mph range for the majority of the day, and I went outside in that and the trees were just swaying a little bit like in a strong breeze. So i figured that I need to have the GFS say Im gonna get 75mph gusts in order to see some wheelie bin chaos. As far as my forceast goes, i will not be getting a storm on Friday. Just lots of rain and a strong breeze... I reckon I love live in some kind of weatherless pit.. :cray:

I mean LIVE in some kind of weatherless pit

  5. :shok: just woke up and checked the 0z to see 81 mph gusts on friday for nottingham. If that pulls off I will need to change my avatar to say "The land of no buildings" instead of "the land of no weather" I seriously doubt that will come off though. Im just happy to have some weather going on this week instead of the same boring crap we've had all autumn!
  6. HERE IT COMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RIGHT- it was o-k- not that windy really. It was squally a bit and looking at the road you could see the curtains of rain sweeping across, but looking at the trees they were like +slight sway+ so no wind really. Saying all that I wouldnt have wanted to be outside in it! It looked very soaking if you know what I mean. I hope it gets really windy soon :sorry: So far I think we have had gusts of 25mph but nothing to speak of really. Maybe I live in a really sheltered part of the town (?) stupid-boring-weather

  7. ITS MY BIRTHDAY TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

as usual I want SNOW, and now dammit!!! But I will settle for a squally wind storm!!! Hurricane Crimson sounds nice!! :D Its a bit breezy outside but not as windy as yesterday so far.. deffo no 35 mph gusts here... I do hope we get some violent winds. I wanna see branches and debris everywhere. (of course no one getting hurt though too)

  8. That's why you put on layers to keep warm. What can you do when it's 30c and very humid, take off all your clothes?

I guess I like cold because it's much more interesting then zonal trash. This is a weather forum afterall. And to be honest, I enjoy taking walks when it's overcast with a hint of drizzle in the air, I can't explain my preferences, I just do. :help:

  9. that sounds great to me!

i hate the cold, i cant see the fascination for wanting cold. ok its pretty to look at when indoors, but its just horrible to be in. its uncomfortable, it hurts, you have to be wrapped up in constricting clothes, driving is a nightmare, i hate scraping frost off the windscreen, it prevents me working, it prevents me metal detecting, it traps me indoors when im an outdoor person. id be extatic if we had a winter dominated by mild southwesterlies!

I see your very valid point there regarding the cold. (I love how you say it hurts :smiliz19: ) and it is really uncomfortable to be in. I am one of those people that suffer TERRIBLY with the cold, and is why I moan incessantly about the British Summer (because you only get like 6-10 days I consider hot) I am a husbands worse nightmare when it comes to cold cuz I always need the heat on (and I work from home eek!) and the bills are outrageous even in autumn (actually Im not that bad anymore in reality, but I used to be!!!!) And, like you, I DO LOVE being outdoors!

BUT...... and I say a huge BUT

this is the reason that I absolutely adore 4 full-on REAL seasons. Very defined seasons. because when you live in a country where you get summer temps that are 30+ for over 20+ days in the summer, and the humidity is like 90%, you cant WAIT to have winter come around again and bring tonnes of snow and cold and wind and blizzards (god Im in heaven just talking about it right now!!!!) and then after having the white stuff around through March, let me tell you, you are DYING for spring and summer, and cant WAIT to get those big hot temperatures where you can walk around at like 9pm at night with no sweater or jacket and you can eat outside, and where the breeze feels so nice on your skin, not freezing like the North Sea just threw-up on your arm. As a kid growing up in New Jersey, I really enjoyed all the seasons cuz by the time you were sick of one season the next one was starting to roll around. So snow in the winter was so much fun, and extreme cold and blizzards, and in the summer the hot temps and humidity was great to cuz oyu could go swimming and not be cold and NEVER WEAR A JACKET FOR THE WHOLE 4 MONTHS. Give me extremes any day!!! :D

My most hated temperature is deffo 4C for winter, and 19C for summer :bad:

  10. Today was 'ok' in that it was warm enough to walk around without feeling cold and did at times have some brightness. A long way from my favourite weather but still not bad.

Most hated weather well that is easily described as 'naff easterlies'... Essentially low cloud and drizzle with no temperature change night to day. The temps hover around 3-4c coupled with a raw cold wind and not a single break in the grey (orange at night) featureless sheet. All it does is strip the house of heat needing tons of gas to keep warm and doesn't provide any of the joys of colder weather - no frost, no snow, no icy feel...

Quite how some of you can list warm sunshine as the 'worst weather' in comparison to some of the grim conditions the British Isles is subjected to will forever remain a mystery to me.

DUDE- that is like the ULTIMATE ARCH-NEMISIS weather. I totally agree, and what makes it even worse is when people like 10-15 miles away from you are getting some type of weather, like SNOW or wind, or even a torrential downpour.

My most hated weather is NO WEATHER. I hate mundane same temperature day and night temps too, where its just too cold so you need the heat on like 22 hrs a day, but NO CHANCE of snow cuz its just that too warm. GOD I HATE THAT!!! :wallbash: And I hate it when its in the middle of July and friggin 19C as a high temperature. Whats with that????????????? It should be 28-30C I DONT WANT TO HAVE TO BRING A SWEAT JACKET WITH ME WHEREVER I GO IN SUMMER!!!! I hate it when its warm out with no breeze and full sun and feels nice. but then as soon as a blasted cloud comes over the sun or the wind goes to like 3mph, you get goose bumps on your arms as big as the Sierra Mts and need to put on a jacket, where you instantly melt becuz then you are too HOT!

I hate not having 4 defined seasons, where winter is BUTT COLD with shedloads of snow, and summer is like feeling a supernova go off in your face with violent F800 tornadoes and galaxy supercells passing over day and night. Spring and autumn arent too bad here, but I always tell people we only have 2 seasons here in the UK, not 4. Just Spring and Autumn.

sorry I just needed to rant that :winky:

  11. I swear to god that if the same happens with the snows this winter, I will seriuously consider moving house to a snowier spot like say.....Luton or Central London biggrin.png

LOL!!! You know thats EXACTLY whats gonna happen!! Every year we get bugger all for snow compared to what the rest of the country is having. many of you have heard me wail and slit my wrists over this every winter. But every year, as the snow comes, it fizzles out just as it gets to the east midlands, whether it be coming from the east, after plowing into Newark, and leaving us with bugger all, or coming from the north, and dumping its hoards on the likes of Mansfield and Worksop, or coming in from the west, after giving Stoke, and Brum a good slaying. Every single time, we end up coming out with like 1cm when everyone else has about 5 or 6cm. So this year will be no different, probably more extreme and even DRIER than previous years. I dont see the pattern changing for us, because that would be too good. Its just ironic that summer this year (and fall), has followed the same pattern of precipitation it does in the winter, and basically all things falling out of the sky become barely a sprinkle of snow for us by time the cells get to us.

Yet- i still have dire hope this winter will be different, just like every single winter that I have lived in Nottingham, the Land of No Weather. Every winter I fill up with false hope, as i do every summer for storms. Cant wait to move from here in about 4 months biggrin.png I keep saying to myself, "this will be the last winter I ever have to bear in this city! clap.gif

  12. Ive noticed a lot of the W.Mids heads are saying that the wind is starting to pick up again around there, I wonder if the wind will travel east to East Mids? I might be in a Force-sheild where I live and not experiencing too much wind (the odd gust) because the xcweather map says East Mids is getting gusts of 45mph and stuff.... The only thing that knowcked over around me is my empty food scraps bin from the council laugh.png Its just laying on its side... Total destruction! LOL!!! I havent seen any branches or twigs blow down the road either, just the odd crisp packet flying loops in the air. I feel like I am still waiting for it to kick off a bit more, like blow down a wheelie bin, or knock over my garden furniture that I have precariously placed around my garden for maximum destruction, but nuthings happened!!! LOL!!!!

    Katia, you suck.

  13. the wind and gusts have really died down now sorry.gif .. Is that it for us east midlanders??? (or shall I say Nottingham since Mansfield seems to be getting blown into the next continent) About every 5-10 minutes I get a small gust of 20-30 mph I would guess, but until i see my SOLD signboard in front of my house, launch itself into the Tesco's Express over the road, I will remain fairly dissappointed nonono.gif

  14. Hi, I'm new. I'm at 1000ft in the border hills and we get a lot of wind. We've had wind, rain and lightning the last few days and are getting tidied up for Katia now. I will be glad of this forum when the winter comes for the snow forecast - we get a lot of snow here and once it lies it stays ! Last year we were at four and a half feet of the stuff and ran out of places to put itrofl.gif Just wondering when this storm is to hit and how long it's expected to last? TY.

OMG! Can I move in with you??????????? biggrin.png

I LOVE snow!!!!! and stupid-poxy-Nottingham got a lousy 8-9" for the ENTIRE winter last year. and only 3" the year before!!!!! sorry.gif . We also never get any decent storms, just a few thunders and a couple flashes and in fifteen minutes its all over.....

I am totally praying to all the storm gods to have Katia cartwheel a 90 degree angle south and drift across the scottish borders so the midlands get some decent wind!! tongue.png

  15. Lmao that would be awesome but also a natural disaster for wildlife etc.. and means more canceled flights!

LOL!!! true, true.... (Im still laughing...) That would be one hell of a natural disaster though wouldnt it??! Not to mention pretty cool in the most Macabre-way. Still wouldnt want any animals or people to become harmed from that, but the idea is pretty intense!

  16. Yes north and south Carolina got abit slammed by the winds and had alot of flooding true but in NYC it was just a few roads near the river mouth that had some flooding over then that the centre of the city was relatively unscathed.

NYC was really lucky, deffo! But the worst of the storm went more inland into Vermont and upstate NY and New Jersey. The coasts of North and South Carolina got hit bad, but its the inland states that usually dont get it so much that really suffered with the flooding. I just meant to say that I dont think Irene was "over-hyped" I think the flooding and intense weather they predicted was spot on, just the wrong area. They evacuated NYC cuz its dead low and on barrier islands. But the devastation was more NW is all. wink.png
