  1. It shows how desperate things are this year when a shower of rain, a spot of dark colour on the radar, or one rumble of thunder produces a flurry of posting!!!!

Perhaps Paul Sherman should open a Thunderstorm theme park along the lines of Chessington or Thorpe and give us the real taste of American weather?

Im in!!! How much for a season ticket!

  2. Its worse here, we're about three feet above sea level at home, so get no snow at all when it drops, although, I do get to see the big storms screaming off the Peak District in the distance every now and then, and we had a lovely one up the Trent Valley last year as well, about ten miles east of me.

You're going to hate this, but that bright pink splodge thats currently over Mansfield appears to be heading for my neck of the woods..

CHECK OUT MY LATEST RADAR NOW!!! Its UNREAL THIS

  3. It seems to happen a lot in Nottingham though, I've lost count of the amount of times I've sat and watched the clouds building up the Trent Valley from the SW and they've conspired to miss me in Carlton by a matter of miles.

OMG- please, dont remind me- I know right? I INVENTED the ACME storm sheild, this city is definately forsaken, the fact we got a storm on June 6th, blew me away! Even snow we get jipped on!!! The winter just gone saw Nottingham get a TOTAL of just over 3inch of snow for the whole winter, I wanted to get a gun and blow my own head off. Got the house up for sale to move to the peak district, I cant handle living in a weatherless city!!

Sun is now currently out  Check out my weatherless donought I am sitting in-

    with new graphic colours!!

  4. I've heard thunder rumbling away to the east and south east for over an hour but when I look at the radar, incredibly (but typically ), my location is under a small circle of desert-like dryness while all around there are heavy downpours which just seem to sit in the same place.

I shall weep and roll naked in hot ash if all this activity misses me today.

 You and me both!!! I just had a line of storms 2 hours ago that had me in a direct hit, only for me to watch the line VANISH and develop on its northern and southern edge to go AROUND me They are just sitting there to my north now. Its gone so cold here too...

  5. Crimsoney, put the radar imagery on 'smoothed' rather than 'pixelated' it gives a better picture

 hey cool!!! I didnt know that button existed! The cell to my north is intensifying but just sitting there. Lots of rumbles, but they are so low, and with the traffic I cant hear them well, plus the brickies over the road are gabbin louder than the thunder.

Im worries its gonna pass me by!!! :wallbash:

Latest radar or storm going around the Crimson Sheild (smoothed)

  6. still waiting for the storm... Its gone really cold and breezy out, and any lightning I see which is about 1 flash every 10-13min, is the crappy CC kind. Not that CC is crappy, but the lightning is that kind you can photograph, and is so fast that its barely visible. Just a flicker dead quick, and the streak isnt even full streak, but fragmented streak, like its too lazy to connect all the way. So camera is ready, but the lightning is defo not photographible. Thats the update so far. Birmingham looks like its gonna get slammed!!!

  7. LOL!! I was just about to say that the N-W radar had confirmed that the heavy shower in Nottinghamshire was electrical :yahoo:

    :yahoo:

It is BA-LACK out to my NE, but the storm is so slooooooooooow that I came down to write. I saw 1 lightning, and the thunder is the long rolling type that travels all around you. The clouds look really cool, and its MASSIVE. Its so slow though ,that it is barely moving. If you look at the radar you can see it growing but barely moving hahaha!! Im all poised lookin out my skylight. My neighbours have brickies makin a wall across the road, Im sure they think Im so mad lunatic hangin out the skylight hahaha :yahoo:

  8. Hopefully. I'm looking at a group of showers to the eas-southeast of my location (S18) that are intensifying but moving sooooooo slowly! They are on track for here though. Hopefully by the time they get here they'll be thunderstorms.

Either way the radar is pretty fascinating to look at! The weird thing is, it's dry here!

Im watching those cells too!! They are to my NE... I hope they intensify too!!!

  9. There's a nice little cell developing to my NW. The sun has finally come out YAY!! and I can tell that this cell is producing rain already. Its just hanging there, so thats cool. let it develop a bit more and feel that sunshine.

Thunderstorms are like flowers and need the sun to blossom!

  10. D*MN LOW LEVEL CLOUD!!!!:rolleyes::D :D

This morning started out so promising! Now the low level cloud wont go away. Im gonna stab the clouds in a minute!! GRRR!!!

Looks like there might be some CBs forming in-between and higher up, as I ge the occasional glimpse of cotton balls amongst the murk, I just cant be sure. +sigh+

  11. :D hahaha, this is what we're reduced to... reporting different degrees of drizzle... and praying to random light 0.00005mm rain showers to intensify. :pardon: Deary me- at least its warm out :help:

I must say that since the sun is out the last hour, my cumulus clouds have gone from stomped-on cotton buds, to pastry puffs. Come on convection you can do it!!!! (insert-shaking-fist-violently-in-the-air-emoticon)

  12. good post by Paul.S yesterday explaining the lack of Storms here compared to the 70's and 80's(Spanish bay of Biscay Plume)

makes alot of sense..check it out...yesterdays thread

all to do with negative and postive troughs from the South/West

I shall go away quietly...enough said by me...heading for the garden

Excellent- just found it and read it :pardon:. Doesnt help with my bitter dissappointment though hahahahaha!!! I need to become a Weather Goddess and command the weather. I love severe weather. (must be the Yank blood in me) Give supercells, give me hurricanes, give me distant tornadoes that arent coming towards my house, and give me SNOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW (and none of this poxy 1cm stuff neither! :help:)

I sure hope Mother Nature stops favouring those Europeans (we need an emoticion that has a violently shaking-fist-in-air-motion) and blesses us wit some insane weather!! :D

  13. I totally agree sbiggs! If there was an ever more appropriate time to use the phrase STORM CHASER. I have been chasing the storm potential for a couple weeks now, as the "storm potential" days seem to keep getting knocked back a day and a day. The downgrade for tomorrow has already begun for me, with the 06z saying -1 lift (instead of -2 and -3) and CAPE is 500-300 from being 800-600. Still though, I am very happy with those figures!!! But we shall see run to run, if Thursday is going to be an utter dissapointment...

Here's one for you John--- understanding the volatility of the weather around islands causing it difficult to pin down accurate CAPE forcasts, why is it always a downgrade?????????????? Why not an upgrade???? Like "oooh I have 300 CAPE tomorrow in my area," but when turning on the computer 12 hrs and 2 runs later I check the CAPE situation again to have a stormgasm with looking at CAPES sky rocket to 1000 or something. Why does it never go up on the day and it always goes down? :pardon:

  14. You reckon John? As Pat stated earlier, in US, the CAPE and lift seem to be consistent days out and only seem to tend to get stronger on the day as oppossed to vanish. I mean a downgrade is one thing, and if the models are saying 200 CAPE or so for the past 8-12 runs, and then on the day when the "storms" are suppossed to be in favour for developement, if the CAPE was downgraded to 100-150, I could understand, but to have virtually nothing, almost everytime (it seems) is unreal. The GFS for instance has been giving me a great storm potential for tomorrow with 600-800 CAPE and -2 to -3 lift for tomorrow. This has been consistant now for like 4 days or so (this also happened for yesterday btw) and I will burst out with insane laughter if when I put my computer on tomorrow at 8.30am, and see no CAPE or lift, I think Im gonna loose it. I'll bet France and Germany dont have to deal with that on their models?:unknw:

  15. Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like for the past 2 or 3 weeks they have been chasing the CAPE monster around every bend and corner?? Whenever I look at the storm forcast, even 48 hours ahead, I always seem to have CAPE for the following 1-2 days ahead to be like 300--800 with -1 to -3 lift, and then when the day comes, or within like 12 hrs, it vanishes???? I am now reverted to chasing TOMORROWS cape which looks mighty fine with -3 lift, only to switch on the computer tomorrow morning to have it be like 0 with +12 lift. Since this past Sunday, Tuesday was looking like a whopper of day for me to have storms, and then yesterday morning- +BAM+ like a 7 for CAPE and of course no lift... These days Im happy just to get a 0 for lift ..dry.gif Has anyone else noticed this trend with the true meaning of the phrase STORM CHASING???:unknw:

    Sorry rant over now

  16. That cell that has just come out of Cov and is heading towards Leicester is the only good thing to have come out of Coventry

    Just kidding :D

There is a 22mm an hour intensity shower heading straight for my postcode, it is windy aswell, if we get blown away by a tornado I shall... Not let you know because our house will be gone

    f3.jpg

    Andy's-house in about 3 minutes... :D

  17. We crave cold and darkness crazy.gifcold.gif

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhh-- nuthin like gettin me old coal fire going again each night (with smokeless of course +ahem+ cuz I live in the city :D) I miss having a real fire every night while curling up on the couch with my PS3...

Saying that- I am not finished with my summer fix yet, and wo betide the weather for be in the low/mid 60s for the rest of the week?????????

I just saw that on the 00z, and am not best pleased :nonono: Its summer for crying outloud- and should be like 85--95F out!!!!! No wonder we have an autumn thread open... not impressed weather gods,; not. impressed.

  18. OK this is ridiculous now. The rain and wind is incredible! More incredible than the thunder which can barely be heard over the rain and wind! Flashes of lightning every so often.

Best storm for the last two years easily.

I'm so jealous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) --- :). I saw that baby develop outside my window here in Notts and drift due north. I thought my name was on it, but it was just 5 miles too west of me DOH! It looked beautiful on radar, we just got a few rumpbles and embedded flashes with some rain, but thats it.

  19. Torrential rain and thunder here in West Bridgford, Nottingham. Not been able to spot any lightning yet. Hope it continues! :)

Hey Im only a few miles north of you in north notts (sherwood) I saw about 3 flashes of lightning (not impressive, just sheet lightning and only slight flicker) and a little bit of thunder. The radar looked so hopefully impressive for us, I had my camera ready and everything!! But just gray old rain... dry.gif. Looks like the east and west of me got hammered. Typical!!! hahaha :)
