Not sure if this has been posted yet, and I always have trouble getting the YouTube player to go in here, but this is an audio recorded video (and black video) of a group of people taking shelter in a store. Very intense and frightning account. This made me cry, as your heart really aches hearing the fear in people's screams.

I'm not sure what channel it was on but the programme was called something like Weather View (or something very similar).
Ha, that's what I thought!
Isnt WeatherView on BBC 1 for like 1/2 hour sometimes? Im sure its BBC... does sound rather ramped that though hahaha

im sure I can see mammatus clouds outside my window I would try to take a photo, but the sky is so gray that I reckon I cant get the definition of the bumps on my camera... I might try in a bit though..

Ok, part 1 of the video footage is now available....It shows the approach of the storm from the south west......Note the cloud striations, a pronounced shelf cloud and gust front
For some reason the uploaded footage seems jerky, I'm not sure why, it plays fine in media player...anyways, excuse my dumb infootage video, and enjoy part 1...Parts2-5 due later
OMG AJ!!!!! That was the COOLEST, most MEGA storm footage I have seen here in the midlands. :shok:
I completely did the phrase I cannot say on here when watching that.
And you are braver than me with standing outside, I would have gone back in WAAAAY b4 that! The cloud formation was total supercell. That storm really reminded me of the thunderstorms I had as a kid back in New Jersey!!! A+++ for that. AMAZING!!

just heard some distant thunder. Im off to stick my head out of the sky light.
-
Gunna get absolutely battered here soon!
Sky is black
OMG! I just saw that on radar! where do you live?
-
omg, that cell is going to the south of me
all day long those storm were travelling NNE and no its all "lets go due east!" ....stupid cell.....
-

I'm about 20-25 miles west/north west of you and those anvils have just produced a heavy shower with half a dozen cracks of thunder and a few flashes of lightning.
+siiiigh+ that line is deteriorating b4 it even gets to me now. :wallbash: The one that missed me to my east is intensifying. bloody figures!!! I really hope I get something today

these are developing really fast. Im off to take some more photos. wish me luck!!!

One rumble of thunder and a spattering of rain was all it gave here..
really?????? It looked pretty juicy on radar... thats such a shame! Ive got some monster CBs now to my west, hopefully they will develop
-
Phew! it's certainly warm out there
Had no shower activity since just before lunchtime. However, there are some nice towers starting to build, so it looks as if things might start to get going again. I've been trying to keep my ears peeled for thunder, but there have been two F15 fighter planes flying around, which have given me quite a few false alarms
Anyway, glad to see that some of us are getting a little electrical action. I'd just like to see it all a little farther East.
funny that, as I had 2 HUUUUGE military helicopters go overhead about an hour ago and jumped up at 1st thinking it might be thunder! They were the ones with the 2 propeller front and back (transport?)

the cell to my east has gone quite potent looking on radar... (of course it had to miss me though.. ) but I can see the black sky to my east if I look out of my sky light on the 3rd floor. If it wasnt so windy out, i reckon I would be able to hear thunder from it. It might be the closest to a storm I get to today.
-
Im sure its getting breezier here.. quite gusty, but still just cumulus in the sky. Lots of cloud though..

hey thanks Coast, this line explains it all too me
"Biological scatterer gives weak echoes over a large surface. These can vary in size with time but not much in intensity."
hence the lightest blue echoes on the radar over lagre areas sometimes (although this is different to what I was seeing up near stockport area)

Its anaprop C_S..... You'll regularly see that little 'cell' appear on the NW radar north of Manchester...It's a ghost!
oh right, that explains it. It seems to change shape with each radar update, but doesnt move... I thought it was a bit weird. As it would go from green blob to like nuclear white tornadic centre, back to yellow and stuff. I wonder why London isnt full of them? I always thought anaprop was that light blue fuzzy patchy stuff, like fizzle.

Can you then flick some of them on further east please?
deffo! They might look a bit chewed up and deshevelled by time Im through with them though hahahahaha
-
I wish there was a way to slightly zoom in on the NW radar as oppossed to magnify x87. Its like either microscopic or macroscopic lol!!!
Im still too far east for these storms!!
+casts a long fishing line over to the west's storms and reels them east+

Perfect clean convective day today .
It's normal for showers to intensify and then lose potency over and over again. If you have the NW radar it's possible to see
that very clearly on the 5 minute time frames. It's something to do with whether the cloud is in updraught or downdraught mode,
updraught will mean generally less heavy rain while downdraught will be the heaviest.
(Sorry i can't explain it any more technically than that!)
yes ive got (and am currently watching ) NW radar I watched that line be all red and orange SW of Brum, but its gone to green and yellow now... now just green and seems ot be loosing the precip a bit.. They were going to miss me anyway, so not that bothered, but I hope they re-intensify for heads up in Yorkshire
-
Its all suddenly kicked off here! torrential rain and clap of thunder :-)
ahh, youve got that line Ive been watching on radar that was approaching birmingham and then fizzled as it passed bham north. It must have re-organised a bit!!

somewhere in the Newark area has a potent little cell near them with red echoes. No lightning detected. I am loving the showers to be honest and would be estatic if I had thunder. I doubt it for Notts though as we have had no sunshine today, and its rather chilly out like October . Saying that, the clouds have that look about them, that if there was like 10--15min of sunshine, they would supernova. My garden plants are singing loudly in the rain
