Today is summed up in one word..
Crap..
Thought it was Sunday

less people, less rape though. We clearly cannot trust them to abide by the needs of the planet.

Population growth is IMHO a bigger threat to the planet than anything else, forget warming, we are a bigger problem.
Very true and the other connection is resource depletion coupled to the ever increasing consumer society.
Well, warming is just one of the manifestations of unmitigated population growth. They're very much connected.
So still points to single main cause and single main object to be corrected to fix a multitude of ills then.

Been out for a walk and nice to not need a coat for a change.

Sunny seconf half of the day here after a cloudy start, milder and dry, this is more my kind of weather

Too much of something in most eco-systems normally ends with some form of rebalance taking place.
We can try and fight it but nature will kick us hard when that day comes.

Very spring like today, hope this trend continues sooner rather than later.
Not a bad winter, been snow down for almost three weeks in patches round this area, over three periods that is, quite a few frosts also.
The outdoor activities season is starting here now so looking forward to some dry, warm sunny periods.

Mild and wet has turned to cool and dry here too, glad I have no reason to venture even outside the door this eveing, going to stay inside where it is snug and warm.

Un-sure why you would still want to chase cold.. Some people still doing it and saying plenty of cold weather to come and snow... for "higher ground in the North" Most of us people down here not sure if any one agrees? Want Spring to hurry up and summer to be a warm hot sunny days with night time thunderstorms..
Yup! 'Dun Winterin' now time for some milder weather, longer days and a splash of colour
Unfortunately I had to euthanize my cat today, he was 17, almost 18, I have had him since I was 5 years old, he greeted me every morning with the strangest noises that have ever come out of a cat, 17 years of my entire life and hes seen me grow up, unfortunately it was his time he had kidney failure and most likely heart disease, I saw a rainbow about 20 minutes after he had past, it made me feel alot better. I cant describe the feeling, he was part of my life for so long.
Sorry to hear that
But good age for a cat, and I expect a life well lived and loved.

Warm and sunny day here today, shame it all goes tits up from tomorrow.
-
And it's only 18 weeks and it all goes in reverse.
Seems to last longer on the otherside (time manipulation with the clocks) plus it is eighteen weeks back from that point so still good.
-
Loving it, lighter mornings are showing now, evenings are getting longer.
c'mon!

Wet tomorrow for us midday onwards then a nippy night to follow, but after Tuesday it is looking good for milder conditions to prevail a while.

Pretty cold and damp here as well -- both the weather and the forum.
Admitted I couldn't spend the time here I did last autumn/winter, but it was a great place to have chats -- until we were told we were off topic. The deception of adding a weather related comment to the end of a good chat wears thin after a while.
So people drift, bet many are still lurking, but why bother talking, weather is nondescript, any other topic appears to be taboo
Choose the line, and many did.

Lonely old place in here when theres no potential for snow, lol......
used to be good till the original regulars were displaced.
damp and cold here

Not liking this cold chill in the weather, that warmer (by comparison) sunshine a few days ago would be very welcome again.

Most of us become "hellbent on the arrival of spring" at this time of year, but I think the problem relates to how we perceive "spring". There's a common perception that it should always be cold and snowy from October to February, and always warm, dry and sunny from March to September. The arrival of "Spring" thus marks the switch from "cold and snowy" to "warm, dry and sunny".
Like most (but not all) others, I look forward to spring at this time of year, in the sense of increasing daylight hours and potential for progressively more potent spells of warm sunshine. January tends on average to be the most depressing month of the year for me because the excitement of Christmas is over and we still have a month of darkness to go through. But when I think of "spring", as well as memories of warm dry sunny spells, two "convective spells" stick out- those of 18-21 April 1995 in Tyneside and 6-15 April 2008 in Norwich. Both of those were characterised by a high frequency of hail, which is hard to get at other times of the year away from west-facing coasts- the key being that the stronger solar heating of the surface results in stronger convection being generated inland, but it can still potentially be cold enough for snow and hail to occur widely.
We are all capable of getting idealised perceptions. Just as most springs don't turn out consistently warm, dry and sunny, most spring convective spells aren't quite like the above two, and expecting otherwise leads to disappointment for most of the time. Similarly, I may be able to tell people about specific experiences of being in warm sunshine one day, and having snow a few days later, but if I expect every spring to be like that, I will usually be disappointed. But the increase in daylight and solar heating are guaranteed to happen at this time of year, and keep going until mid-June, regardless of how the weather behaves.
Your a bag of fun!

Not a bad day here, been out in the back garden, sunny, dry, warm and no less that four Red Kites riding the thermals and calling to each other as they circle round, fantastic sight.
-
Looking like a decent day here, clear sunny skies, looks almost spring like till you factor in the still low temps.

Spring is Sprung?

Shocking that people should discuss general weather (see Winter) in a general weather thread this time of year and SPRING in a SPRING themed thread as SPRING approaches.

It's good ,soon be eating my evening meal without the aid of candles !!..
What? no knives and forks?
Imbolc today, the halfway point between the winter solstice and the vernal equinox.
It all takes off from here now with the length of daylight rapidly increasing.
Happy days, happy, happy days a coming.
