See we are still saying model output is rubbish/poor/substandard not because it is wrong, but because it is not giving what we want.
Forecasting is about planning, you cannot change the weather.
Forecast today was for it to be dry but cold in the wind here, so I wrapped up warm and took a walk to see some friends and then my family for a meal, model output/forecast was right though. No snow but still had a good day out with friends and family.

7c here, a toothless cold spell too say the least. Hearing the BBC bang on about 'Bitterly cold' blah blah, it's a wonder why people like 'Piers Corbyn' go on about the BBC & The MO being 'Charlatans'.
Their is no bite to this cold spell at all. It's weak. All the fuss is just beyond ridiculous.
The way this 'Northerly' has been forecasted has been a complete shambles. I won't even bother with a BBC forecast again tbh. Never ever watch ITV, it's complete rubbish and guess work.
On Friday, the beeb forecasted a mainly dry day on saturday lol. It was wet pretty much for half the whole day. Rain, Sleet and Snow across many parts. But the beeb went for a predominantly a dry day. Terrible. Don't even mention the polar low. Useless they are.
I stick to a temp on my barometer and what the radar is showing. Simple.
I did see/hear mention of "feeling bitterly cold in the wind", rather than in general and that bit is correct for here.

If things turn cool, calm, sunny and dry I will be happy, until spring finally arrives at least.

Another reason I cannot wait for spring is it means it is warm enough to have the doors inside open again, for now they are mainly kept closed to keep the warmth in a couple of rooms to save waste in the rest of the house, spare room which is my art studio is hardly used this time of year as there is no heating in there.
Roll on spring!

Best post I have seen in ages regards to the MOD thread

I came here expecting some discussion about the models and all i see is people whinging. There wasn't any of this nonsense back in my days on Net-Weather. It's a model discussion thread, people should be discussing the models without any bias towards warm or cold in the model discussion threads - discuss facts and projections - not sure why there has to be a team hot and team cold competing when we should be simply 'reading' the charts and giving thoughts and insight.

Snow falling here and started to settle.
-
Heavy big flake snow here for the last half hour and still falling (though that should stop soon looking at the radar).
-
I presume that apart from a lucky few, this next cold spell will be exactly that. Just cold. And dry.
From what I have seen so far, yes.

Reed Timmer is referring to NEW ENGLAND in the U.S not England UK
And if you read the thread correctly you will see JJ1 & snowrye *ARE* talking about America and their weather not the UK.

Just watched that forecast. BBC predicting 9C on Thursday! Good luck with that forecast because evidence suggests it will be 3C!
Rarely watch BBC forecasts these days because they are crap in my opinion.
That forecast is a day old (24 January 2015 Last updated at 12:46 ) just checked MO and BBC online and both showing temps of 3-5oC now for Thurday.

Middle of next week is looking wet and windy, with what looks like some colder nights/cooler days to follow after that.

^^^
Indeed, it was a nice day all told today for the time of year, spent a good few hours outside rather than in which was a bonus, whilst not mild, the edge was lacking a bit with the cold if you managed to keep to the sunshine (always going to be cooler in the shade).

Since the start of the month we have gained nearly 20 mins in the morning and nigh on half an hour in the afternoon/evening of sunlight here

Dull and now damp is today's theme here, nothing wintry in the mix thus far.
-
Just checked out and it is raining (only light) here.
-
A warm spring would be most welcome, lighter days, new growth, return of colour to the garden and countryside, not so long now.

1.2oC and radar shows something passing over, but nothing falling here. No frost as of yet either.
-
1.6oC and falling rapidly from 2.5oC 90 minutes ago.
-
A cold and dry 2.5oC here, wonder what the evening/overnight period will hold for my area being on the NW edge of the region.
-
-1oC here now

Are they?
Can't say I have really noticed and with good reason, the turnaround for sunrise doesn't happen to after the New Year, whilst sunset was over a month ago.
Sunrise about 10 minutes earlier now whilst sunset is over half hour later. Sunrise is getting earlier but noticeably, not yet I would say,
I leave every day at this time of year in the dark to get to the office between 06:00 and 07:00, looking out the window over the yard it is getting noticable lighter now.

Ive got heating yay , i was sitting here with a hot water bottle this morning until it arrived, i even done my 2 cats one each as they were huddling, yep i cant believe i missed a few flakes
YAY! now don't let it run out again

Temp is holding at 1.7oC and still cloudy so that is keeping the frost at bay for now
