  1. whereas the ECM keeps low pressure just west of or over the UK keeping things very unsettled.
  2. this dry weather is driving me mad, fed up of it tbh, especially dry cloudy nothingness. we need some rain for goodness sake!
  3. all to do with elevation really, dudley/quarry bank generally speaking is higher than parts of stourbridge
  4. just been up to the outskirts of telford, a good couple of inches of snow, in granville country park. a winter wonderland, which surprised me has to be said.
  5. midlands today is poor in my opinion. as arctic hare says ben rich is the pick of the bunch with a little improvisation from the graphics, but shefali sticks to the script too much, heavily following the met office! we now have a new girl with a strong scottish accent who i fear is another shefali in the making!
  6. positioning of the low/shortwave most probably?
  7. have to agree with radders and i feel your sympathy. its fast becoming a poor region for snowfall, what it has in good elevation around the central midlands it lacks in proximity to a body of water(although it is never far away). once again we were initially in the firing line and that has shifted eastwards. not for the first time but i do apologise to areas in leicestershire and nottinghamshire that have missed out. im as fed up as anyone else but i guess its a warning to expect the unexpected with snow forecasts, as you can bet your bottom dollar 9 times out of 10 that snow forecast to be heaviest in the west midlands will end up somewhere else.
  8. sadly its just the same old story with snow in the midlands. had 2/3cm last saturday but it barely lasted. just another disappointment you get used to. glad i had a good skiing week in january, with some 30/40cm at lower levels and 200cm at higher levels. you know a lot of things have to come together to get snow in lower lying locations exposed to the atlantic mildness, especially the further west you go. oh well, have to head out to the alpine resort of telford tonight, so its perhaps a blessing in disguise! EDIT: we should really have separate east and west midlands threads
  9. looks like shropshire and the western midlands are completely out of the frame going by the NAE
  10. just seen the national forecast. it shows the massive uncertainty really in the forecast with less organised snow shown but in heinsight, i dont think they really know! watch the radar rather than the beeb forecast imo
  11. its all part of the warm front phenomenon, where precip evaporates before it hits the ground. plenty of the stuff higher up in the atmosphere but very little reaches the ground.
  12. proper snow here! big flakes, but too wet to settle i fear
  13. just rain here back in stourbridge, doubt we'll see snow very dark out but just plain ol rain
  14. in fairness to the agencies most of them were highlighting it as a mostly high ground event, and wet snow to lower levels. in a milder airflow, its always going to be more marginal. wait for the scandi or greenland high to develop
  15. unsurprisingly, nothing here, we all knew it was knife edge and in reality, it was pretty unlikely.
  16. conor i think i may see what you have to contend with round these parts! as i said im in newport up the road atm, and only a little light rain to report.
  17. ah thats top secret im a stourbridge lad but penkridge isnt all that far from newport in shrops, where i am atm. very little to report here.
  18. better looking forecast from john hammond at 5, more widespread snow over most of the midlands was shown, never know. i suspect being just north of telford for now isnt gonna stand me in good stead. being home in stourbridge might've though.
  19. i had to chuckle at the temporary panic with the met office warnings dont need to take everything from that site as gospel folks, they aint always right...
  20. we are nearly a SIXTH of the way through winter, which means there is still plenty of time. check over on the stratospheric conditions discussion and you will see things are looking more favourable for northern blocking going into january time, i wouldnt write it off just yet. this was an added bonus if anything, as it was completely unexpected and as is often the case, its going to be radar watching tonight. some may get a a pleasant surprise, some might not.
  21. just seen the latest beeb forecast, now whilst it should be taken with a pinch of salt due to low confidence, there was definitely a southward trend in the precip. with the brecons towards the cotswolds bearing the brunt of the bad weather, and anywhere north of brum not really affected.
  22. the gfs shows some promise, but to be honest the NAE is repulsive, way too marginal, limited area of snow and that's around the cotswolds. ah well thats the chance of snow gone then
