  1. Well, still all white out there, but it looks kinda wet and slushy. As for next weeks predictions, woo hoo!!! But I'm fully expecting a downgrade LOL!
  2. It would be dead exciting though, imagine going to bed tonight and then waking up tomorrow morning to half a metre of snow?!! I'd swoon. And then I'd be a bit peed off 'because I wouldn't be able to report it on netweather...or have a cup of tea, or a shower, or watch TV  Snow seems to be easing off here now, got a decent covering though and have seen some beefy flakes this afternoon. It's been a good day!
  3. Obviously that will never happen.... but just imagine if it did!!!! It makes me go weak at the knees!!!
  4. I went out at 6ish - 1.5 cm of snow. Looked out the window just now - there's sh*t loads out there!!!!! And it's still coming down!!!!! My husband and son have been out there doing snow angels to appease the weather gods
  5. Just been out in it (to buy the wine which I am now drinking!) it's pretty bad out there. It's still sleeting/snowing and there's about 1.5 cm of lying snow - which doesn't sound too bad...but it's mixed up/on top of wet ground/puddles. I nearly went ar*e over t*t several times. If you are driving/out and about tonight be careful.
  6. I'm about to go and buy some wine in it, so that I can enjoy it even more!!!
  7. We are having proper settling now. My washing line is sort of white, which is always a good sign.
  8. If you get back to leicester It might be snowmageddon over here while you are in Wales *evil laugh*
  9. In my very inexpert opinion it all hinges on the pivot (if you'll pardon the pun) - I can't tell if it will be a south to north or a west to east direction at the moment. I'm hoping for a stall and a bit of a slow west to east....followed by a surprise beasterly over the weekend, with a stealth polar low for good luck :)
  10. We've had dead heavy stuff for about an hour, started to settle about 25 minutes ago and is now easing off slightly. Tonight looks like being an interesting one! My husband reports that it's settling and thawing (thizzling?!) as it lands on our garden table!
  11. Well, I'm feeling increasingly interested in tomorrow evenings/fridays set up. I think that it's looking less and less and less marginal. I'm going to have an early one tonight to prepare for the excitement tomorrow!
  12. snowing quite heavily here, not settling but is very nice to look at - I'm happy!
  13. Oh my word - exciting times are possibly ahead then!
  14. LOL, yes they were!! And whenever a few tiny bits of snizzle were spotted within half an hour it had turned into a week long, mega blizzard!
  15. I've probably said this before, but for me the best part of 'the weather' is the waiting and speculating rather than the events themselves!! I got drawn into it 2 years ago (I think it was feb/march 2008!) when there was that atlantic low that was allegedly going to give the UK a massive storm - it didn't! Since then I've waited for heat waves and heavy snow that haven't materialised!! But it's that chance isn't it, that potential for something exciting that keeps us interested!
  16. Just been out for a walk and it's a horrible drizzly/almost slightly sleety morning. If only it were a bit colder, it would be all white out there!
  17. I'm more worried about the snow in Vancouver - it was raining there earlier and they are praying for a frost tonight
  18. I'm not overly hopeful for this week - big downgrades all around really. But there's always the potential for a surprise or two (I'll still be saying that in July LOL!!!)
  19. I am a cold ramper, love snow and all that. In a series of books I read as a kid every winter the characters couldn't leave their school for at least a week due to blizzard like snow falls. The books were set in the austrian alps - so snowfall was a given really What I want to know for future winters is what sort of set up/conditions would potentially lead to a similar situation in the UK? Also, when we have rain sometimes (well, quite often!) we have prolonged, moderate ppn, but when we get snow it's all very on and off. Why is that? Finally, when we do get snow I've noticed that we tend to get mainly snizzly micro-flakes - why don't we get sustained, big, beefy flakes? I'm a dilettante weather watcher, so any technical explanations for my silly questions would be most welcome and greatly appreciated
  20. Looking at the charts I think that we won't see too much in the way of snow next week. But as Nick (was it Nick?!) said on the old thread in winters to come we'll look back on this one as a good one. The January cold snap exceeded my expectations - I'm looking forward now to Atlantic lows, gale force winds and thunder storms (but a bit of snow before that would be very nice!!!!)
  21. Ha ha - if this was sustained it would be cracking!!!!
