  1. There's a big old white return on Met Office radar that is in the Midlands now...seems to be heading straight for us...
  2. It's visible on the Euro radar now (and has been since 1400)...N/NW of Holland...shouldn't be long before it arrives on the UK radar
  3. Still watching the group of showers for TONIGHT approx 6-7 hours away nr Holland. To be honest, we have possible snow tonight, tomorrow, the weekend and now (apparently) further into Feb. Why are some people so damn long sighted? The models will wiggle over the next 24 hours and you need to learn not to act like sheeple over one thing that sounds bad. If it becomes a trend, then start to worry. Personally, I can't see any rain at all for our region. It would be impressive to be rain in the temps and DP's we have atm. Where's Mr Murr? Could use a steady hand on the rudder and maybe some input on those Holland showers and if they'll continue on track or divert. /rantover
  4. Surely someone else must have the Extra radar...quite a large and active blob heading this way by the looks of it and the passage over the N Sea would only boost it....
  5. Can anyone else with NW radar or a reliable Euro radar confirm if there is a organised 'blob' of showers just to the N and NW of Leuwarden...shows up of the NW Extra Euro radar...doesn't look like anaprop and would fit in with heading our way this evening....was the same stuff I saw earlier.....
  6. Thats what i'm trying work out...NW Extra radar is showing a lump quite a way out in the N Sea that is headin in our direction, but watching radar loops, it appears that the mass of snow on the north eastern coast appears to be rotating...ie the northern side rotating clockwise and the whole mass appears to be nudging south... Anyone have any idea what is going on? 'Cause I don't
  7. Interestingly, we had a weather warning on the Command and Control Systems at work earlier for disruption from snow later this evening...can only imagine we get that info from the Met Office...still not certain that lump of precip will stay on course or maintain its current intensity.
  8. 5 minute radar showing small showers forming to our NE and E in the North Sea...something starting up?
  9. I must admit that personally I was hoping on some signs of convection or shower activity kicking up and heading our way, but even that looks a little on the quiet side atm. Without that, we're back to relying on the forecast models verifying later this week and I think my nerves are already shredded as it is. I don't think i've even seen agreement so close, only to go back to disagreement within such a short time frame. Still hoping, and watching
  10. Well, not quite as bad as I thought it would be in Bromley, S London....looking forward to further evolution though. Seems to me that the current radar picture is a complete mess without much movement anywhere. Once it starts moving, maybe we'll see where the next threat comes from. At any rate, i'm not too downbeat...going back home to parents in Biggin Hill this afternoon, and i'm pretty sure i'll see what should have been more widespread snow up there
  11. Pretty much the same here....can't believe the temperature drop! Last time I checked, it was hammering with rain (I walked in it...trust me, it was 'damp' to say the least) and 8.8 degrees Woke up becasue the rain sounded strange, and found the temperature is now 1 degree, and sleet with quite a few fair sized lumps of snow being blown to a strong north wind. Can't see it settling, except on my old car outside which has a slushy 'orrible mess on it, but you never know. Might even get up early to see what's happened!
  12. Snowing again gently here. Just tried to move my car and where i've compacted the snow, it's turned into sheet ice. That's not going anywhere! No thaw overnight and equally, about 1 1/2 gritters by the looks of it. The road is a mass of solid ice and slush!
  13. My tiny little brain can't quite handle how much snow is sitting outside. But maybe someone can help: normally, i'm quite good working out where snow risk will come from, but the MetO have another weather warning for the SE tomorrow. The radar picture is just a mass of showers and I can't work it out. Where is the snow risk meant to come from? Cheers peeps
  14. Well, Biggin Hill Aiport gave up at 1400 and issued a NOTAM closing the airport until 0700 tomorrow. Still snow falling fairly heavily here, and with out increased height, I expect it to continue. Wondering if the roads are going to be even more dangerous tomorrow morning, after a freeze and continuing snow. Don't care how much i'm paid...not risking my car or life to travel 16 miles on the roads up here!
  15. I've got the faintest feeling that areas around me (well, most of the SE) are going to get a proper spanking later. Phoned work and said I wasn't risking it, but may try if it clears a little. Now changing that plan....I know where i'd prefer to be stranded out of home or work!
  16. Tom, I really wouldn't bother even trying to get up here....I can't even get out!
  17. Finally got a couple of pics....no comments about the unscientfic snow depth measurement!
  18. I tried to go to work this morning. Managed to get about a mile to near Keston, Bromley. Car did not want to go anywhere and only just got it turned around and back home. I'll try later on, but with the weather system moving in, I can't see this getting any better road-wise. Couldn't care less really. I'm loving this far too much. Think i've regressed to being a 6 year old again!
  19. Well, I can't get any pics until it gets lighter....but a DVD case doesn't even poke it's top above the snow on top of my car...about 8 inches or thereabouts...and it's still going! :o Fan-bloody-tastic! :o
  20. As I said very carefully, HALFWAY up the wheel (as in, the hub). Which would put it at about 8-9 inches.
  21. Lol...it's official. Biggin Hill...snow up to the hub of my 19 inch alloys. Went on a experimental road test to see about getting to Plumstead in a bit...it's not happening! The main route out of Biggin is covered with snow and there really is no grip...not even in 3rd/4th. Beginning to regret having a 2.5 V6 front wheel drive.......
  22. Been snowing off and on in Biggin Hill for about 2 hours. Not heavy or big flakes, but with the recent cold, sticking to everything
  23. If it's anything like it is here, Mr Murr is certainly not exaggerating! I can still only see 2 lamposts down the road, and everything (including the well gritted roads...congrats Bromley Council) is covered.
  24. Holy Hell! I only checked a few minutes ago and there was a dusting! It's now 1cm deeper than it was 5 mins ago....and I can't see 2 lamposts away!
