  1. Enjoyed that. Like Pat I'm looking forward to part 2
  2. Jez,very important! Ian, let me know what type of PSU you need for your laptop and I'll sort it out for you for the RS.
  3. 1 thing to add to the list. Pair of good polarized sun glasses glasses. Essential for viewing deveolping storms in the distance.
  4. I still have to get my new passport from the postal service. Starting to freak out a little as I should have got it by now.
  5. Hi Daniel, I probably wouldnt bother with the suction mount. We'll already have 1-2 cameras on the lead chase vehicle, and probably have the live streaming cam on the other vehicle (doghouse) , aswell as other bits dangling in front of the driver such as multiple GPS recievers, HSDPA modems etc. Windscreen space is going to be at a premium. Unless Netweather want to charge per square inch or something
  6. LOL. your right. my little homemade one needs 2 seconds after it triggers before it will trigger again even if a strike is detected. Its a limitation given the way ive coupled it with the Strikealert. I can work out the bug but I dint think I'll have time before the chase. Might not be a bad thing for nighttime lightning (me hopes)!
  7. and your going to have that and more back at the hotel at the end of every chase day!
  8. Anyway, just to point out guys, we are still testing so there are one or two bugs to sort out but were almost there. Thinking I'll change the camera also. Was a bit of a haze coming down and wasnt that bright when testing. Pity, was beautiful all dat here. lighting wass probably more like driving into a supercell anyway  Thanks for helping us test this!
  9. Anyone see that last guy almost hit me on that roundabout. YOU ARE ALL WITNESSES!
  10. Just picking up some servers on way home from work guys. Will be on the move again in 5 mins. Camera a bit out of focus so will sort too.
  11. Will be about another 5 mins before we can start the streaming test.
  12. Hi Cookie, They are special weather radios. They operate on the FM bands but can’t be picked up on a standard FM radio as its uses frequencies in or around 120 MHz (I could be wrong on the frequency). They have about 12 different channels; each channel is for a different region. You can get the weather radios for about 20 dollars in wall mart or the like. You can also pickup the same broadcasts on XM Radio.
  13. Cheers, i was trying to embed the timer in the Sig for Paul but the security on the forum wont allow me to run Java Script. Thought I had taken it off cause its a bit on the basic side. Might jaz it up a little.
  14. Which is very very funny  . Probably a good thing were not going to have audio on the live stream eh Paul.
  15. OK, here's my stuff so far. I'm sure there will be more.... 16. LOL. Cant keep anything quiet here Yeah, I've converted a one of the portable StrikeAlert thingies into a trigger for a Canon 450D. But proof will be in the puddin. In Early tests I've been able to photograph the electronic ignition for a gas hob in daylight. I think it might be a bit sensetive for over there, but we will see. If it works well I'll publish some build instructions. God I'm in bad need of a storm now!! Roll on April!
  17. Would defo work out cheaper Dogs. Thats what I'll be doing. One little thing about external HDD's though is that if your copying all your photo's / video to one drive and then formatting your camera media, pretty much all your eggs in one basket. Ext HDD's aren't so good with shock either, where as solid state media such as SD or CF are much better in that regard. I'll be backing up my data to external HDD and I'll also make sure I'll have ample space on my notebook HDD to store a seperate copy of same until I get home. I'll try and make sure both travel seperatlely
  18. I enjoyed that. Hope my wife wont get any pointers from Alison though. I think I saw her taking notes
  19. Good old Reed Timmer. He's a nutter. There is a good chance you'll bump into them when out on the chase this year. They had a contract with Boeing last year to collect large hail when on the chase and preserve it for analysis by Boeing. One of his guys (Chris Chituck or something I think) had to jump out with helmet and padding etc any time they were being hammered by large hail to collect the stuff. Very funny to watch on Storm Chasers Season 2
  20. Yeah I know what you mean about getting nothing done dogs. Last year I wasn't so bad becalse I only deciided to go chasing about a month before the first chase, so it was really only a month of being unproductive, but I decided to go on this trip ages ago so I'm basically screwed. Needless to say, wife and boss (is there a difference  ) are not happy campers!
  21. Yeah, getting really exited about it now myself, I'm dreaming about chasing every night, some of the dreams are really weird but I wont get into that  . I've been meaning to put some of my own footage up from Tour 1 08 all year, just finding it hard to get down to editing. Will get something up this week. Paul, the countdown to stormchase 2009 in your sig, is that an automatic countdown or are you modifying it daily. If its automatic how do you do it?
  22. Me neither MCT, but Ian, Stu and Paul are total alco's!
  23. Installed my new Lightning detector over the weekend. Data available here.... http://www.corklightning.com
