  1. My gut tells me that Sunday is just going to be a horrible, grotty, wet Autumn day.
  2. I think a little artistic license is fine, e.g. contrast/saturation tweaking etc. I agree with regards to completely photoshopped images though
  3. I don't know if this counts, as it was taken across the channel but I will put it here anyway:p I'm surprised the photography section on Netweather is so quiet seeing how active the other sections of the forum are. We need to encourage more people to post photographs!
  4. I absolutely love the Autumn "smell." The smell of bonfires, fireworks, wet leaves? I love the foggy and misty mornings and evenings, the cleaner air. I even love for example, being in the pub and going outside for a cigarette when its freezing cold. I love looking up at the stars in Winter (I live at the top of a village so no light pollution) I just don't like months of slate-grey skies, driving wind and rain. Snow is beautiful as are cold and crisp Winter mornings. - This summer, my hayfever has been another level of horrendous, verging on full-blown asthma. Hmmm, maybe I am a Winter person afterall:p
  5. I'm still waiting for that first "moment" where i can smell/sense autumn in the air. Although i'm a summer person and always moan about Winter, i do find the approach of Autumn and Winter very exciting and nostalgic.
  6. things are definitely on the turn here, i always notice a hedgerow on the route to work, and it has already taken on a very orangey hue. Sad times
  7. Finally, on my last night in France, I managed to crouch in a bush as everyone was rushing around packing and take this rather shoddy long exposure!
  8. THESE people remind me of those idiots who consult the weather app on their iPhone and exclaim 'Oooooh we will be getting a thunderstorm at precisely 6pm' and then get upset when it doesn't happen, they think the weather is as predictable as a bus timetable. It's weird. Also try punctuation.
  9. I'm beginning to think the weather has a personal vendetta against me. Sod all here in the south of France (which is lovely obviously) while the UK and Hampshire (which never gets storms) is getting an absolute battering. I made it my mission to get a lightning photograph this year and after last night, every idiot on my Facebook with a camera phone has managed to get one:/ depressed doesn't cut it

  11. Thank you:) had some decent distant lightning last night but I kid you not, as soon as I set my camera up for my wonderful first long exposure of lightning, it stopped:( Chances for tonight? Looking decidedly soupy (the sky)
  12. moderate rain from slate grey skies here, hasn't been too thrilling
  13. Hi Guys, wasnt sure where to post this, so thought I would just put it here. I'm heading down to a little holiday home near Nice on Friday and staying there for two weeks. Unfortunately we are driving there and back (which sucks in a minibus without air-con) but last time, on the way home, we passed right underneath a developing supercell in North France (I have the pics somewhere but can't find them at the moment) - it was mental, never seen structure like that except for pictures from the states, classic UFO shape to it. I'm hoping to at least catch some after-dark lightning photography while i'm down there as usually, there is at least a couple of distant lightshows. Any weather experts care to give their opinion on my chances of anything thundery for the next two weeks down there? I will update this thread with pictures and reports if I manage to catch anything:)
  14. Honestly, never ever even entertain the idea of reading this POS. If you even see it on display at a newsagents, set it on fire to save others.
  15. Some big TCU going up here already. Looking more promising than anything I've seen for a week or two
  16. I've been browsing some charts and things, trying to further my understanding of convection situations, and I've decided to have a little stab at where I think any action will take place today. It's pretty broad so nothing special, and if its completely wrong then nevermind, all part of the learning process:P Yellow box is a general convective risk, red box is where anything slightly significant may occur. Feel free to shoot me down:)
  17. yes..or more specifically, the North East, down the Eastern side of the country looks to see the best chance today with regards to convergence.
  18. Looking at the rain today radar, general motion of any precip seems to be from west to east, thought it was meant to track more southerly than that? Fingers crossed for something beefy to develop down in the SW and move this way then please
  19. I'm hoping to get out and have a look but won't be until at least 6pm. Hoping the activity hasn't died out by then. Normally in these circumstances, the low level cloud begins to break up in the evening revealing lovely sunset skies with distant convection
  20. Definite rotation in a cell that just passed over tot hill services near Newbury with one very bright flash of lightning and deep, loud thunder
  21. That's a beauty. A real candidate.Feel kinda bad for the rant earlier, I'm a bit spiteful when it comes to weather:pThe reason I'm so mad at the met office stems from a snow event a few years ago. Forecasters on here and on UKWW were warning of the possibilities of heavy snow for my region so I warned the girlfriend, who was driving to do some shopping in Basingstoke, to be vigilant and keep an eye on the weather. The BBC on the other hand seemed less bullish and simply said 'the south may see the odd snow flurry as the day goes on' alluding to my area. This reassured my girlfriend and she wouldn't ever believe the met office could get anything wrong.Well, it snowed heavy and solidly for 8 straight hours, turning the roads into gridlock and she was snowed into the car park. Took her 12 hours to get out, push the car, and make it back home (Basingstoke is 12 miles away). We had about 6 inches I think. I was furious about how blasé they were about 'the odd snow flurry' when infact it was a lot more serious than that.Just think if there is any potential for a severe weather threat, they shouldn't sit on the fence. There's lives at stake sometimes
