  1. Thanks Goodness i'm going on my annual holiday down to St. Tropez in August:p
  2. Not yet haha, give it a few more weeks and I may be tempted:p
  3. This has to be the most benign/uninteresting year of weather I can remember so far. Endlessly dull.
  4. That whole post made me horribly jealous:( Looks like summer is cancelled this year for the UK:p
  5. absolutely rank out there the last couple of days in what has been a very benign Spring here. Feels more like November today
  6. If i remember rightly, the push of rain was progged by the BBC to move up across this area in the evening, rather than the early hours of the morning. Has it been pushed back a little?
  7. Peach of a photo. God it's been so long since I've seen anything that even remotely resembles that:( Re. tomorrow and the rain moving up from France in the evening, any chance of some sparks anyone reckon?
  8. Oh man that sucks:/ I feel your pain though, I really wanted to capture some long exposures last summer and those couple of nights in July were my best chance....shame I was out of the country that week:(
  9. will be out and about tomorrow for the first little "chase" of the season, though not expecting much. Still, gives me time to play with my new lens AND my new GoPro:D
  10. sky becoming overcast here in Basingstoke, slightly undulating look, definitely elevated in nature
  11. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/georgemonbiot/2015/apr/09/daily-express-weather-warning-beware-a-shower-of-extreme-inaccuracy About time!
  12. It wouldn't have been so bad down here, but even when the sun has been shining, there has always been a nagging, cold breeze. I am appreciating the light in the evenings though. Glorious:)
  13. Spring warmth cancelled for the second half of Easter:( The millionth time any sign of warmth has been downgraded this Spring so far
  14. The weather has been very blahhh down here. Very average, benign spring fayre really. Certainly always feels cold in the wind and i don't foresee any "spring-heatwave" this year.
  15. How did this thread get no replies for all that time? There must be quite a few of us on here who get out and about to go chasing:/
  16. I am one of these people. In the Autumn, I definitely catch the scent of decay and wet-foliage at some point in September, mixed with the lower angle of the sun. Throw in the smell of Bonfire smoke and it makes me super-nostalgic. In the Winter, i "smell tinsel" - hahaha, I've never been able to explain this to anyone really, but there is a distinct "scent" i associate with Winter, Christmas and Tinsel. In the Spring, its a certain freshness and angle of the sunlight again. It usually happens for me in February at some point but I have to say, it hasnt happened for me yet this year. Aside from one "ok" day earlier this month where it apparently reached 17 degrees or something out of the wind, its been very chilly, grey and breezy.
  17. Still hasn't felt all that nice to me down here:( Apart from the obvious changing light conditions, there has nearly always been a brisk breeze which has made it feel rather chilly. Was looking forward to the high-pressure fest and glorious ushering in of spring this weekend/week but it's really been watered down to seemingly just today which will probably be cloudy and still rather breezy. Lots of talk of winter making a comeback in the model thread. Bad times:(
  18. I don't post on here too often, but I read the forums every day. My weather-knowledge is pretty amateurish but I find this place a fantastic resource to get expert-opinion on upcoming weather patterns/thunderstorms/snow etc. I will say however, as a spectator, the model thread has a definite cold bias. I agree, the whole "mildie" vs "coldie" thing is immature at best, but the "coldies" almost seem to rove around in packs, shooting down anyone who is looking for signs of warmth or discrediting any cold pattern. It has been a right pain in the bum sometimes when coming on here to seek out the general weather for the next working week this Winter. Rather than discussing what the models are ACTUALLY SHOWING, people are often posting charts at T+180,000000 because it shows the vague possibility of something maybe happening a million years into the future (apart from that Gibby? guy and a few others who are very good at keeping it real) and you will often have to scroll through pages of off-topic discussion and fantasy-island straw-clutching to find out what's actually happening in the reliable timeframe. I obviously understand that in Winter, the majority are going to be looking for cold signals, but I get more of an "aggressive" vibe from the "Coldies" and I fear it puts a lot of people with a more rational or literal interpretation of the models off from posting. I also understand that as far as cold goes, the last two winters now have been absolutely dog-poo for most people, so a lot of posters will become a little over-zealous having been starved of any decent wintry synoptics for so long. I don't know what the solution to the problem is, but I just thought I would throw in my two-cents. I for one won't stop browsing the forums, taking onboard some of the excellent analysis for the weather ahead and passing it off as my own to impress my friends (joke - i try to get them all to read the forums also) I just hope that some of the "gfuqhgfpjhing" can be extinguished and we can all get along because WE ALL love the same thing - the weather. Having said all that, I'm a "mildie" and literally cannot wait for Spring/Summer:D One more day and Winter is dead technically speaking;)
  19. Was pretty glorious here out of the wind on Sunday, today its back to Anticyclonic gloom and cold. I dont remember too much about 2007 as a whole (apart from the obvious) but I know we had a decent plume event with storms down here sometime in July and in June the weather was roasting at Download Festival.
  20. I really do hope the Daily Express don't pick up on this:( I can do without my friends texting me and asking if there is a "Polar vortex of death with snow tornadoes and lightning tsunamis" on the way.
  21. out walking the dog around half hour ago, a moderate wet snow\sleet shower passed over. First snowflakes I've seen in these parts for going on 2 years. Interestingly, it still doesnt feel THAT cold to me, but that could be because I was jogging and constantly throwing a ball.
  22. I remember it well here. Before the days of weather forums for me, I hadn't checked the weather forecast for some time and the event took me completely by surprise. I recall being in the pub, a spritely 20 year old enjoying a pint of Fosters probably. It was getting dark and there was nothing out of the ordinary when we started to notice cars through the window, driving through the village centre absolutely plastered in snow. It was kind of surreal at the time and didn't make sense to my slightly annebriated brain. Suddenly, it began to hail and out of the blue there was a vivid blue flash and an almighty crack of shotgun thunder as the hail turned into a wall of snow. The snow literally caked the windows to the point where it was impossible to see what was going on and all you could hear was the deep rumbling and booming of thunder with the odd flash of lightning thrown in. Needless to say I went outside to play and it was like an ice rink. It was right in the middle of rush hour so cars were sliding everywhere, there were several "accidents" and "fender-benders" and a sense of camaraderie as everyone worked together to dig out stranded cars and push others to safety. I got hit by a well-placed snowball that day. Right in the nose. Never forget.
  23. Around late January I get that "spring tinge" where the light reaches a certain angle in the sky at a certain time. Haven't had it yet, but any day now:) We got a new dog a couple of weeks ago and I took her for her first walk around the fields this afternoon. I am super looking forward to storm-season when I can use the dog as an excuse to go out and look at any interesting clouds:)
  24. Certainly blowy out there. A couple of house shaking gusts with the wind squealing through the cracks in the house. Lights keep flickering too. Would stay awake for the passage of the squall but I will probably fall asleep by then
