  1. Lying in Dunblane since about 9.30, can I claim a met office snow day on my sig? In grangemouth at work so not able to enjoy it Love to compare the Bannockburn (where I used to live) with the Balhaldie webcams on trafficscotland.
  2. Any rain/wind/ice experts on here? Was up Ben Ledi today for a walk, after spending yesterday in a concrete box, and the old snow was liberally covered with yellowy brown ice. Spent a good while thinking about how this could form and finally came to the conclusion that it was caused by 100mph raindrops passing over/through tussocks of grass and leaching colour from them. Has anyone else seen this before? The only other explanation I could come up with was that the storm somehow picked up lots of dust/muck in the rain but couldn't see how this could happen. Any thoughts anyone?
  3. Forth road bridge and Erskine bridge now shut up here. FRB recorded 82mph gust! And it's only 11.00am!!!
  4. Did some ask for pics, one from yesterday. Nearly 3 year old having fun. And the wee man taking advantage of the powder.
  5. Light snow just started, is this just a precursor to the main front and therefore may stay as snow?
  6. Trough showing on the west coast on the 18Z fax so showers shoukld pick up again and hopefully push a bit more inland. About 5-7cm fluffy powder here after last nights showers and a few wee top ups through the day. Was hoping to claim an ice day but WS went up to +0.1 at one point, just snow day no 2 then!
  7. Big shower this morning driving home, layer of wet snow on roads to test winter rubber in slush - check. Continued showers through the day, all snow - check. Out sledging with wee man - check. Big shower with proper big flake snow - check. First snowball in the face and related tears for wee man - check. Snow shovel in use - check. Winter rubber tested on frozen snow - check. Happy man - check
  8. Was some talking about last year at the end of the old thread? This was from around this time last december, bring it on for this year!
  9. Kinda wet this morning. M9 by Stirling shut both ways, first time I've seen that due to flooding! This is a fun wee link (particularly if you like kayaking) to see how much water is around - http://www.wheresthewater.com/river-levels/scotland Could be some serious problems by the end of the day.
  10. 16C and continous heavy rain since dawn, Scotland's rugby team with a narrow defeat, normal service resumed then . Enjoy your heat and dare I say, bring on winter
  11. Hi Maitland, you've just tempted me, a keen kayaker, to go on the school run early, to have a look at the Allan in town. Quite windy here but nothing dramatic so far. Anyone noticed the tightning of the isobars on the XCweather pressure map just SW of the low centre, is that the main event for us?
  12. I know it's not strictly related but does anyone have an equivalent to the CET for Scotland? I know it's been cold but would be good to see some figures on just how cold.
  13. Airspace restrictions extended to whole UK until 19:00 today. This is not going anywhere fast.
  14. Still blizzards here, off for a walk to soak up the delights.
  15. A couple of pics from this morning. Looks like it could be even better tonight. Got a bit warmer now and snow has stopped but wind is picking up. Nightshift tommorrow night so will be up late tonight watching what develops.
  16. All white here and still tipping down. 3-4 inches. Nice stong winds so must be a blizzard.
  17. Percy is green, unlike my grass, and wears the number 6, which may well be on my grass by morning.
  18. Been wet snow here for about and hour and starting to settle on grass. Heavy band just approaching.
  19. Snow down to about 150m just N of here. Is it me or are the 00z's showing a bigger warm sector in the low and reducing the snow risk somewhat? West looks the best place to be. BBC showing lots of snow in S and C Scotland for tonight tommorrow morning though.
  20. Just lost 50% cover in Dunblane today. Just up the road however there is still loads. First pic is Sherrifmuir Road at around 300m. Second is view looking NW from Ochils, the valley in the midground is at around 100m altitude and still well covered, as mentioned by Shugee a couple of days ago.
  21. Well I reakon I'm on 36 hrs of continuous snow and still coming down. Just off to see if I can get my car out to get to work tonight, loving it! Depths not huge due to being quite wet and heavy but 9 inches isn't bad going. Would I be right in thinking that it is going to get colder from here as well? As for the ski centres . Good luck to Alan trying to get the WH cams back online.
  22. Other than a couple of interesting looking LP's dropping in from the North in a weeks time on the euro outputs. Not entirely used to meteociel format but they look cold and interesting to me.
  23. Still snowing here, is there not a case for keeping Scotlands thead going? And hello to Moffatross, assume you are the same MR on WH. This a is a great site for helping pick those classic days on the slopes like last Friday !!
