  1. Another great 00z run. Greenie high to Norwegian High to Greenie high to Uk high. Absolutely no hint of atlantic on this run. Remarkably similarity to ECM 12z out to T192.
  2. Lots of nice little showers coming down from the Tay here. Topping up what has been here for 2 weeks now with only 2 or 3 days where it has actually got above freezing. What a good place to be.
  3. Yep it is. In reply to Highland snow. Unless they are here and were already stating fact.
  4. Dunblane just got 20mins proper heavy stuff and still coming down lightly. No thaw here for over a week now, all the snow is still as it was when it fell. Just a bit dry for igloo building!!
  5. Another interesting evolution in FI tonight. The low comes all the way south, hits the channel then about turn and back up the North Sea! A run of SEasterly's for the festive period, then we get an attempt at height rises into Scandanavia, then at T348 a reset of the start of our current patterm with some nice WAA heading up to Greenland! If only I could belive that the fronts running S in the next couple of days would give Central Scotland more snow than GFS is trying to say it will.
  6. My wife likes nothing better than curling up on the sofa, with me, and doing some serious lamping. I secretly quite like it too, but don't tell her.
  7. Looking good for Scotland on the 18z. Easterly is further N and a bit more potent, should be plenty of showers hitting the east and possibly through the central belt. Uppers getting plenty cold enough to lift snow out of the long sea track!
  8. A quick question on behalf of my Mother in Law!! How does this set up compare to last Feb? Is there much likelihood of travel disruption over the next few days? She is planning to travel from Brum to Eastbourne and back, Wed to Sat. I'm not recommending this at the moment, what are others thoughts? Cheers Andy.
  9. 00z looking superb!! High is looking stonger and detaches and starts moving N at 144. Cold moving country wide from an ENE direction by 162, does it get any better than that? SW went over at T96 but only seemed to help again, to my untrained eye. Looking forward to FI Edit - full on Nrly at 240, if I wasn't so tired I'd be excited
  10. Just to counter some of the negativity on the model thread, I'm seeing lots of mountain snow potential atm. Looking great for an early season base. Hopefully the thaw/consolidation on Wed/Thursday will get things ready for a big dump Friday.
  11. Aye but Mr Monk doesn't seem to entertain the concept of FI. Can't imagine why
  12. That would be great thanks, the more we can do to encourge folks to ski and board in Scotland the better. I think there is a perception in the UK that Scottish skiing is not worth the effort but we often get amazing conditions as well as a longer season than the alps. Check this for an example after Octobers Nerly - http://www.winterhighland.info/publicrepor...8635,1118#start . The key to getting a good day is however very weather dependant so any insight from the the folks on NW would be most appreciated!
  13. Hi folks, Been lurking on the MOD thread for a good while now and my main interest is how the weather is going to affect my sporting possibilities up North. The majority of folks however seem to be from Southern climes and the typical comment of "an non (snow) event other than for Scottish Mountains" gets me excited. Would be good to have a thread where we can discuss the impact of model outputs on skiing and climbing in Scotland/Northern England. Something like this may already exist but I couldn't find it. Mods if there is a better place for this then please shift it over. Anyway from what I am seeing (very amateur eye) the NE three resorts should get a bit of snow from Friday/Saturdays Nrly, and then I'm hoping the Western two will catch some from the NWerly on Sunday/Monday although not sure how far down the mountain this will fall as the 850's are a bit high. The other issue is whether the turf gets a chance to freeze as temps drop on Friday before the layer of insulating snow falls on top. Are there any experts on altitude effects on snow/wind/temps etc out there? Cheers Andy
