  1. On the will it rain radar it has the system pivoting and then the northern edge moving back across manchester from the east. Net effect a bit of drizzle as the snow shield repositions and the snow shadow comes into effect
  2. Yes the chorlton snow dome is extremely effective ? on the rare occasion that we get snow in manchester, I can wake up to nothing here and drive 2 miles into work and there will be snow on the ground. Maybe i need to invest in some better loft insulation ?
  3. Even if the forecasts hadnt moved the whole system way south, id still be worried because we have been in the cold air today and still only managed cold rain. Does anyone more knowledgeable know why it would be any different if this system from the south pushed up into this air as originally forecast?
  4. Did anyone get any snow today? We had a few heavyish snow showers but mainly its been rain.
  5. Chorlton snow dome functioning correctly as expected. Maybe there will be a better chance tonight once temperatures drop but Im not holding out much hope for tomorrow Good luck to other parts of the region though you might still get a good covering at least
  6. People are mentioning altitude will be a factor here over the next few days, I think thats true but I suspect attitude will be even more important in south Manchester. I'm going to try to keep myself from getting too excited and be happy with 1cm of lying snow at any time !
  7. Both BBC and Met office forecasts are very uninspiring for Manchester right throughout so Im not getting my hopes up until that changes. The chorlton snow shield is pretty effective even when it snows in other parts of Manchester
  8. Agreed..nothing here in Chorlton apart from rain this morning
  9. Well the BBC and met office forecasts for manchester are underwhelming given the general excitement in the model discussion thread. Not showing any snow for Manchester - I thought it would show a flake or two at least
  10. Yes we have a particularly effective snow shield....its the latest model that keeps out the snow but lets in the rain
  11. Coming down quite heavily now.......drizzly rain that is !
  12. Well we managed about half an hour of snow before it fizzled back to sleet and then fine rain. On the will it rain today radar it looks like the band is further east and the prediction is that it will continue on that way so I fear we have just missed out by 60 miles or so. Maybe there is a chance that it will back east later but I'm not holding my breath. This is the snow dessert after all
  13. I've just heard a rumbling noise ! That can only mean one thing - the South Manchester snow shield is being deployed for the first time this year! We do seem to be in the right spot for snow this time but I cant help feeling its going to be another one of those situations where we just miss out. Hope I'm wrong
  14. A short heavy shower here in Chorlton.....of rain I am still optimistic for later though
  15. Apart from the disappointment of not getting any snow either on this occaision or in Jan, the other thing I cant understand is why the radar images on the rain today premium site have shown me under snow for quite long periods both this time and and in Jan. In fact right now the radr shows me under moderate precipitation. Does anyone know why this is ?
  16. Nothing here in chorlton again ! - We didnt get anything in January either. I thought that the South Manchester snow dome was a joke made up on here but it turns out its an actual meteorological phenomenon. What puzzles me about this snow shadow effect is how can it work in two different directions ? If the snow is coming from the east I can see how the hills of the pennines and the peak district could have an effect. But how does this work when the snow is coming up from the South ? Anyway - I hope everyone who has had a good fall has fun today in the snow
  17. Radar suggests about 2 hours of snow now for manchester and then thats it. The difference between what was forecast for this region and what is actually happening is the worst I can remember (and I can remember some big let downs !) Does the snow shadow effect only work in winter ? we seem to get enough rain in Summer
  18. much less snow on latest bbc graphics for manchester - I know this is'nt usually very accurate but its not a good sign is it
  19. Oh dear - looks like Im right in the centre of the snow shadow. This happened in January when there was snow all around but nothing here in south manchester. Its strange how it seems to affect snow but I can vouch for the fact that there is no rain shadow here ;-(
  20. The south manchester snow shield has proven itself to be amazingly effective these last few days. there seems to be decent falls to the North, South, East and west of us Still its good to here that other folk are getting something out of this
  21. Its so fine here I can't actually see it unless I go outside. It should be heavier than this according the rain today radar but its been like this right through this "event"
