Well its Midday now and temperature here is still only -1.0C, didn't reach as low as -7 last night, bottomed out here at around -4.8C.
Fridays set-up is trending towards a West-East flow in the front, meaning us in the East have a better chance of seeing more precipitation, with generally the west/Pennines seeing the most in the far north region.
-
Look at those ensembles, a thing of beauty!
-
-
This was Ian Fergusson's BBC points west forecast for Friday of course things remain uncertain but it gives a UK picture
Ignore the warning box as thats for the south west
2-5cm for low levels in the South West? That isn't very impressive for such a 'big event' Aren't they supposed to be getting the most lmao.. surely more than that anyways.
-
5cm on the lawn.
Exactly the same here, quite a bit less on the pavements mind.
Yer i'd say 5cm on cars/tops of walls/grass and less on the paths, but they have been walked on I live on a main road and you can see the grass on opposite side appearing where cars have melted it.
-
That's what I mean about the underground hot spring! Most other parts of the NE seem to have had at least 5cm now.
How much have you got lying Alza? I'd say about 2 inches here depending on the surface up to 3 maybe, i'm terrible at judging depths though haha
-
Temperatures are widely around 0C around the region, so any snow cover should stick around now in theory, temperatures the next couple days aren't forecast to get above freezing remarkably!
I'd expect to see icicles forming as direct sunlight melts snow and refreezes it
-
Just commenting on the 12z, which looks plausible.
What is the UKMO showing?
I don't know about precipitation from the front, but it looks good for convection on Friday at least
-
12 hours of snow/ 20-30cms and we get an hour and 2-3cms?... I call that missing us to all intents and purposes.
How do you know we're only going to get 2-3cms though its still 3 days away, more runs needed!
-
Would be pretty galling to miss out on such an event pretty much altogether though!
Haha I very much doubt we'll miss out altogether, it's too big of a system to miss us really.
-
Is it me or does the 12z GFS look poor for here? We miss out while most get a massive amount of snow.
We're never going to get the most in the country when its travelling up from the South West, has the most land to cross before it reaches us. We ideally want it more tilted West so it only has to cross the Pennines, rather than the whole of England.
-
Seriously? Light snow and grey skies here, although I can see some blue sky to my south west. On the radar it seems as though this shower is growing despite being over land rather than the sea.
Oh its just started to snow, it looks clear towards newcastle way though :s
-
Snowing again here.
Edit - moderate snow with big flakes, seemingly out of nowhere!
Clear skies above hebburn!
-
Hmm its starting to lightly snow here again, strange
-
Latest video from the beeb with what the rest of the week has in store
What a brilliant forecast, lots of snow on the horizon still to come it seems
-
Very heavy fine snow still falling here, just went for a walk to the shop and became a snowman
-
Just starting to snow.
Seriously?! It's moving so slowly took 8 minutes to get here from shields and another 14 to get to Heaton.
Its just got a bit heavier here again
-
Hasn't really got above moderate intensity here, few heavier bursts in it
-
Just starting to snow, and saw some birds flying in the opposite direction... Pfft haha
-
Ha ha I'm not sure a couple of inches is 'tons' but I get your drift
Starting to look threatening to my east and north east now.
Just didn't expect it! I was like huhhhh?!!
Looking very black outside here too bring on this next shower!
-
Omg there is absolutely tons of snow here! LMAO I've got to start getting up earlier
-
Moderate now here at long last but not convinced its going to last long. But can't complain got a complete covering now about 4 inches deep. 1000 feet high is very handy when it comes to snow•
Ah very jealous mate my dad used to own a house at >200m asl near Stanley, and the winters up there were brilliant. Now I am on edge for every snowfall at my measly 45 m asl in Hebburn haha
-
Still lightly snowing here... I'm going to delcare today a 'great success' -borat voice- As against all predictions i haven't seen a bit of sleet or rain. All snow today -(so far) LOL
Only disappointment was the thaw, but its all been replaced now!
-
Just drove back to Hebburn and the snow is still falling nicely, everything covered including roads, it is a very wet covering though and wouldn't take much to melt. A temperature drop would be ideal now.
Temperature at 0.7C so we should be alright this time haha.
