Personally I wouldn't rule further snow out in the NW over the next few days, although the winds are directly from the North at the moment, it only takes a slight shift to NWlys to bring PPN from the Irish sea, this hase happed pretty regularly recently. If the winds shift to more & increase in force to an NEly or Ely as currently forecast we could see shower pushed over from the North York moors or the Pennines. Again only my opinion !!
The front currently sitting over Lancashire has defo stalled not really moved South in the last hour, really heavy snow in Preston city centre during the day time is unheard of!!
M61 was 1 lane all the way from Chorley to M60, there are a few accidents on the M60 @ Barton. The A6 from M61 to Walkden was completely covered. I imagine all efforts have gone into keeping East Lancs clear
I'm from Worsley, about 6miles south of Bolton, we have over 6" so with the extra elevation in Bolton I would imagine they have more, that said I've just driven to Preston & there's nothing!!!
Just driven from Worsley to Preston, 6"+ of snow at home nothing in Preston, though light snow now. M61 was ok, 1 lane most of the way, but clear after Botany Bay junction. Looking at the radar could be quite a bit more due though.
I've not seen snow like this up here since I moved from Surrey 16yrs ago, truly an event, has anyone check the HA traffic cameras, they're struggling to keep the motorways clear!
I'm between Manchester & Wigan, just off the East Lancs at Worsley & we have a good 3" & still battering down. Looks from the PPN radar that there's still a good bit left to fall. Here's to hoping the temp drops behind the front & we get the odd streamer off the North Sea, could be hammered by the end of the morning. Meant to be driving to Preston in an hour!!!
Are we purley looking at the showers comming in off the Irish sea tonight for our snow, or will the ppn currently over scotland work its way far enough south to provide a bit more cover. Currently have about an inch of cover snowing lightly since 6.00pm - fingers crossed!!
So is anyone going to make a call on the approaching warm front, will it produce snow or freezing rain for the manchester area? Temps will need to rise significantly to produce rain/sleet, so fingers crossed for a couple of inches of fresh snow by Tuesday morning.
