Well I think we’ve bottomed out at -10.4°C. Again we had that last minute drop just before sunrise, does anyone know why that happens?
Is it really always coldest just before dawn?

Hi Chris, We're on a roadtrip to the coast and the sun is just coming up. We remembered the saying that it's always coldest just before the dawn (darkest as well but that makes sense). Is it true- 6

-7.0C low on the WS, was -6.4C when I checked it 15 min ago. An apparent max of 3C is forecast today. Can’t see that happening, but we’ll see.

-1 here
That makes you one of the mildest places in the UK! Even L’pool Airport is at -3C. You sure it’s only -1 where you are?
-5.3C here in Widnes.

I quiver at the name ‘Whitehaven’ one of the most depressing and behind the times places I’ve ever been. I vowed never to return, ever!

Winds are veering now, slight more of a W’erly will limit the drop or even cause a rise near the coast from here on.
We’ve had the lightest winds out of pretty much the whole country tonight. Explains the widespread coldness!

A band of showers has formed just over the IOM, current trajectory takes it around Merseyside through to Cheshire in the next few hours.
How far they can penetrate remains to be seen. This northerly air is REALLY dry.

-4.3C in costa del Halton

Just checked tonight’s text forecast from Met Office. Merseyside & Cheshire specifically mentioned for some snow showers later.

Already -2.3C. Met office has temperatures rising after 9pm due to W’erly element to the wind. Shame really. Was hoping for a proper free fall tonight. Could be some light showers of snow later then I suppose.

Temps were still falling here also before I left for the school run.
That radar picture is gutting from a southerner point of view, but they always seem to get at least one significant snow event each winter. I’m sure they’ll get one.

Why does he need a plinth to stand on --- is he fearful of floods?

Temp already on the way back down. We did touch 4C briefly. Lots of snow still around. The ground was really cold after the frosts the last couple of nights, that’s really helping to insulate it. No sunshine as it’s cloudy.
I’m not too sure about precipitation tonight. Sneaking suspicion it’ll probably be clear and colder than forecasts.
Will see a -10C somewhere in the region over the snow fields in the next couple of nights. The likelihood it’ll be around Sharp or Buxton somewhere, but I think the snowier sub-urban areas could come close too!

We had another moderate snow shower a minute ago. Reversed some damage from the melt. I think it’ll stick around on the grass today.

Keeping an eye on this LP to the north, its meant to be making its way through Scotland currently, but from the Radar it looks to be about 100 miles further south hitting NW England.
We don’t want it, pretty much anything past this point is rain for us. The colder 850s are briefly moving away till around midnight tonight

Temp 0.7C. Stay there please. If the snow makes it past today, it’s here till Friday

Could do with some cloud to put a lid on the temperatures and the thaw. Met office has us climbing to 5C today. Enough to take the lot away!

Easy couple of inches here. Hoping it can cling onto the right side of marginal for a couple hours

Looks like a trough moving through N Ireland at the moment. Wonder if it’ll reach here?

Snow has started here. Can’t see anything turning to rain, higher 850s tomorrow afternoon

-2.8C with precipitation literally on the doorstep from the Irish Sea. Now that’s unheard of around these parts.

-3C here already. Met has us at 1C now, only 4C wrong, Not too shabby for the UK's finest.

We’ve been here before. We all know this setup doesn’t produce snow away from higher ground. Don’t be fooled

Did anyone around the Anglesey/Bangor area benefit from that streamer & shower activity last night? Was pretty constant from what I saw on the radar for N. Wales!
