4 inches of snow this morning, hardly any melted, now at least 2-3 inches piled up on top of that. Big drifts. Incredible.
-
3-4 inches deep up here on the Lickey Hills - was proper settling snow start to ?finish?
-
Settling properly now so the snow level's on its way down the hill...
-
Snow is starting to settle here, but it's very borderline. Just turning the grass a little white. So I can say with some confidence that the snowline in this area would be about 1000 feet (300 metres)
-
Been snowing here for half an hour or so now. Not quite heavy enough to settle though
-
7cm up here on the Lickey Hills. Just drive up to Beacon Hill if you need a snow fix..... Roads been pretty dicey this evening though
-
Loads of snow here - a good few cms on top of the covering from saturday (+yesterday eve). Been heavy/moderate for a while now. Brief period of icy rain/sleet earlier but not enough to melt anything
-
It's been snowing here for at least the last half hour - settled a bit on car and grass.
EDIT: I see locations not showing, so I'm at Lickey Hills, SW Birmingham, 286m
-
Just assumed it was rain here, from the look and sound of it on the window. But after looking at some of the previous posts mentioning sleet, I just had a really close look and spotted one little splodge of sleet against the window. But that's all really. So even the altitude not much help. Hope the winter season brings something a bit more impressive before too long!

Rain even here at altitude
-
WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!! First time i've ever seen snow falling in May!!!!!! Only lasted a couple of minutes but it was definitely proper snowflakes, not sleet or snow/rain mix (or ice pellets). Big enough to see them stick briefly before melting.
-
It seems like the precip is yet again intensifying south west of Birmingham?
And to the north east on the last frame at raintoday... not quite over yet for west mids?
-
Is there still time for us to pull victory from the jaws of defeat? Anybody???
Bish
Can't see how. But i think there was one time, was it winter 2008/9 or 2009/10, when an event seemed to be over, then some new precip pepped up out of nowhere behind the band, and gave an unexpected decent snowfall (maybe 10cm). So not impossible i suppose..
-
Very heavy snow here
Awesome - good to hear someone's got a pasting even if not me on this occasion (though at least we've got a dusting which i suppose it at least more than most)
-
There's a small 60mm/hr precipitation rate blob just SW of Birmingham, is that snow there or rain anyone able to confirm ?
That was close to us, and we got a covering of snow out of it. Now back to freezing rain again. On the front steps which I'd cleared of snow a few days ago, we now have a triple layer of frozen rain (pellets) embedded in ice formed from freezing rain (i.e. froze on impact) with the covering of snow (grains/flakes) on top. Now being iced up with more freezing rain..... What a mess! A good old-fashioned foot of snow would be much better! By the way we have the benefit of altitude here so it's -2C

Even if 10cm or so of snow across a wide region is likely according to the models, it's still valid to make the argument that it might not materialise (in my opinion). You only have to look back 2 months to December, when an approaching low was forecast, right up to a few hours before i seem to remember, to bring up to 10cm of snow to fairly low levels across the Midlands (say 100-150m/~500ft). But in the end....nothing, or just a couple of cm over the highest hills.
-
Snowing hard here on the top of the Lickeys, half cm on roof tiles, probably 1cm on grass. See attached message (i now have a cold finger from tracing that on the roof!)
Night all.
Finally tally overnight: up to 3cm deep on the grass

Put a date on it ? to verify
Can't do much more than write the date in snow??

Great stuff...the urban areas of Birmingham and Black Country know there's no chance if you guys up there can't get snow...so at least we have that box ticked so far tonight!
Yeah trying to be useful, don't want to annoy people who haven't got snow (yet).
I expect to hear reports of snow in S Brum very soon, though, as it's coming down thick and fast here now. Probably by the time i've finished typing this...

Will try to remember to post in the morning. Still moderate snow, looks good shining a light out of the window. Without the light, you might think it was rain what with the sound of the water going throught the gutters. But the flakes are gradually sticking more and more so you could say it looks like a "dusting" overall now. Probably not far off a "covering"
-
Oh wow, update: moderate settling snow! that was quick!
-
0.9C here, light/moderate RAIN

Snow drifts still here on the hills this evening especially near the top of Beacon Hill, though quite a bit smaller
