Live in West Oxfordshire so not quite cotswolds but near! Hope to see a good dumping from this. Had 6cm the other day so cant comlain so far. From a purely selfish point of view would like a slight shift east which may happen over next 24 hrs. Good news is the majority of people will do well out of this.
First post by the way so hello to everyone. Any other Oxfordshire folk on here?
Cheers
Hi Birdman,
I'm living in Stroud but grew up ibn Chipping Norton (Chippy) so know your area well. Having been at school during 1963 I think I can say that you shoud do really well indeed out of this upcoming event!
Enjoy!

I'm a long-term lurker as I have nothing of interest to add - but I just want to say I'm so excited!!! I'm even going to venture into the loft to locate and prepare the fleet of sledges (which will guarantee hours of rain).
Hudsons field?
I know I'min Stroud, but pass by frequently!

Do you think those snow showers will make it to the Swindon area, looks like they are fragmenting , and nothing mentioned on bbc weather
Not a chance!

3.8c here
2.0C in Stroud
-
Currently -2c here and falling.
Interesting because I'm about 120m high in Stroud and it's only 0.4c here and falling slowly.

Get in touch with "snow business" they are a company based in Stroud that provides most of the snow scenes for Hollywood blockbusters. I have often wondered whether I should go and ask for a job there, driven down to take a look (with the snow machine going at the entrance even in july!!) but never gone in.
Well, aren't I the luck one! We had "Snow Business" at the goodwill evening last Friday in Stroud and they produced a blizzard for around two hours! I took a great photo but I wouldn't have a clue how to upload it onto here!

I have puddles.
Well you are not too far from Puddletown after all!

You seem to have about 40 miles of snow still to the west of you - about the same as Stroud, but the change to rain/sleet is not moving as fast as the actual precipitation - if you know what I mean - so it could last a couple of hours more....
-
Still snowing here in devizes wilts, when it meant to turn?
What's your postcode? I'll check the radar for you
-
Been snowing here in Stroud since 1.30pm and now its blowing about. Temperature minus 0.4. The rain which was showing on the NW precipitation type radar to the west of here has changed back to snow so I'm expecting at least another hour or so of snow.
-
I was just thinking the same Lynxus. It's gone from Rain to Snow, thought it was supposed to be Snow to rain!
....and the temperature has fallen by a whole one degree C in the past hour here. Been snowing steadily now in Stroud for the past 45 minutes.

Ooops! I shouldn't have posted that - it's suddenly stopped!

I'm working in the Forest and we have had snow for the past couple of hours. Some big flakes too but not settling
Steady light sleet coming down in Stroud, but I don't think you'll have any problem getting home!
-
Bit late to tell you, but it was snowing this morning here!
Nothing stayed around but fun driving to work in the falling snow.
Enough on the hills to go sledging again. Yipee
Not too late! I've only just arrived home from work. Working in the north Cotswolds this morning and it was very snowy out near Bourton-on the-Water and Stow- on - the Wold. A good inch of the white stuff, settling on the roads and traffic chaos with jack-knifed lorries. Although I live in Stroud I work all over the Cotswolds area and this is definately the best place to be if you like snow - except last Thursday when all the snow was in the Foreset of Dean. Still snow on the ground North of about Northleach.

Eagle-eyed amongst you in S Glos / North Bristol - where it's been snowing again for around the last 15 mins - might have noticed how this continual lighter snow is quite markedly different to the intensity-dependent 'big flake' stuff earlier. This is because the WBFL has now duly dropped pretty much to the deck as expected, allowing effectively any PPN rate to come all the way down as snow here, even at low levels. Quite a reasonable covering in these parts albeit readily slush-ified.....
Yes Ian - very noticeable sudden drop in temperature of around 2 C around 3.30pm with a change in wind direction to more norherly. Light rain sudddenly became light snow and started settling.

To get way from some of the sniping going on in here-for gawds sake folks its the weather. None of us can predict without the models beyond 24-48 hours ahead so lets try and be polite to one another shall we.
Im in the process of doing a blog, out as far as NAE goes, the rather odd time of T+42 hours. That way we can compare the same time charts and see what the 2 main models are showing.
PLEASE talk about what you see the models show, with examples if possible, and STOP niggling at one another.
You all have a complain button-use it and let admin and mods sort out any hassle.
Please could I have a link to your Blog, John.
Thanks.

Blimey this is a controversial place tonight! Seems to me it's because in particular the models are showing all things are possible. As a result the "coldies" seem to be digging their heels in, of course they all seem to be reasonable & acknowledge that the other side may be right, whilst putting the boot in at the same time.
I've been around NW for a long time & it seems to me that the recent cold spell has emboldened some people, who don't actually know that much but have become quite popular by saying what coldies in particular want to hear & the fact that their predictions have finally come true. We even have promises of secret methods being revealed, interestingly only if what they predict comes true!
Personally I prefer the views of people who actually know what they're on about, either because they've been there & done it (& have recently been grossly insulted by "neo-grebists") & those who clearly have the technical knowledge. When a forecast/guidance goes TU, at least they tell us why.
I'm actually quite looking forward to May, when we can get back to discussing & reading about what the models show (not what they would show if red was pink & your Auntie was your uncle) & having a bit of sense around here.
Sorry if I'm adding to your problems mods, you have a tough job & I appreciate the time you give freely to police this madhouse!
Thank goodness - some common sense at last! I'm a newcomer and trying to learn something from the experts but I'm not getting a very good impression so far!

It just doesnt seam to be pushing any further east on the radar, how we doing in stroud?
OK. It stalled for about an hour after you first saw it but it's really coming down here now. Just had to move the car to lower ground near the London Road where there is an impromptu car park as we are unable to get up and down our hill.
-
Wow that looks a mighty swathe of prec currently coming in and around Portland at mo,I am near Poole Harbour is it bringing snow or staying as planned rain on coast, just in from work
Looks like about 20 miles of snow on the radar, then sleet, then........

Hi Musician - most of my family live here on the south coast so we've all been spoilt this week!
My partner is from Christchurch. She inherited her mother's house, which is empty at present and we are worried about frozen pipes recently, but seems to be milder down there now.
Still light snow falling here and quite a bit on the radar. No thawing as it's still sitting on the telephone wires. O.6 C at present.
I can stay up late as I am unable to get my car down our hill so no work tomorrow! Quite a few abandoned cars around here still.

Welcome from Horndean. I used to have an Aunt living there. Very wintry up here in Stroud tonight. Started snowing around 11.00pm and we already have an additional 2cm or so. It's settling on everything and on top of the 10cm or so still left from last week.
-
Evening all,
Thought I'd pop across from southern central thread as everyone has gone to bed I think! Just started lightly snowing in Horndean (which is about 6 miles north of Portsmouth).
-
I cannot believe that my weather station's batteries failed on the coldest night that potentially I've ever recorded!! The lowest was -6.6c and that is nowhere near the -8 odd at Boscombe Down or the bone chilling -14 odd at Yeovilton! I have adjusted the batteries and reset it, but of course today's max will now be botched, so very annoying at such a crucial time in weather history!!
As an aside, Yeovilton was still below -11c at 10.00!!
Answer is simple - you need several weather staions. They are always going wrong. I currently have three different systems. minus 8.1 here in Stroud last night. Still minus 3.2
-
You reckon it's cold enough to settle here? Come on snow!!!
Very heavy precip moving in on you now - all snow - shouldn't have any problem sticking.
