Lightning out to sea east of Blyth
- 1
-
Looks like thundersnow happened near Murton and Hetton-le-hole.
-
I wonder if Peterlee will get a crack of thunder. We had an insane lightning flash just after 8am this morning; it even caused my Electrics to click. Thunder was loud too.

Is it me or is that pattern showing showers converging near Edinburgh,
-
Interesting radar pattern at the minute https://www.netweather.tv/live-weather/radar

Looks like the snow engine has kicked back in after a short break this afternoon.
-
The cam at Bognor is quite good to watch - see occasional flashes - http://www.earthcam.com/world/uk/bognorregis/?cam=bognorregis

Some heavy showers crossing our region as we speak
-
Gone out to sea now
-
Some big shower clouds south of me in Peterlee

Snow covers the ground in Peterlee.

Yeah but come on, this is a rarity.
Only had one very heavy snow shower about 16:15 and it was a cracker. Very dark, heavy snow blowing for about 20 mins.
I saw the anvil of that snow shower on my travels home, it went on like a long pointy finger

Who says westerlies can't deliver snow to east coastal parts - this evening is proof they can.. indicative of a very deeply unstable airflow and very cold uppers, its the equivalent of the long draw unstable easterly delivering snow to us in the west, and we haven't even got trough features.
The set up is classic proper cold zonality.
Some reports of lightning too, which I guess also shows how unstable it is.

Had a heavy snow shower earlier this evening, I think I had seen lightning too. In Peterlee area. Got a slight covering now.

Pretty heavy showers over Peterlee about an hour ago, some lightning out at sea, cannot see it but can spot it on the map: http://www.lightningmaps.org/realtime?lang=en

Wind howling now in Peterlee. I bet a few people are missing a roof tile or two by morning

Had sleet down in Peterlee this morning. Seems to have cleared through. Will see what the afternoon brings.

Heavy sleet here in Peterlee, East Durham.
More snow in it than rain at the moment.

According to this story, a plane was struck by lightning on approach to Newcastle. Did anyone manage to hear any thunder or see any lightning during today's storm?
-
Heavy rain here in Peterlee, no lightning though
-
Travelled from Easington, sky was very dark, dare I say it rather thundery looking, I was half expecting a rumble of thunder. Still looks dark out there and there are some big snowflakes / soft hail falling mixed in with small ice pellets and rain, a rather odd mix of stuff falling.
-
Just travelled from Peterlee to Sunderland, snow has become light here. Sort of been a mix of snow grains and rain here and there. Snow not sticking very well, even to the snow already on the ground; can tell this because the roofs are not white.
-
Snowing here in Peterlee. Seems the snow that is already lying from the previous events last week has thawed slightly. Current snow is almost horizontal and is sticking to the cars, etc.
