That will be the second storm Sunderland got today
-
Yeah Thornaby is not far from the Boro
-
Any chance of that storm west of Harrogate could approach me?
-
Longest
I remember one Friday there was a thunderstorm that lasted over 12 overs more or less, it started around 3pm and lasted all through the afternoon, all through the night and into the early hours. It happened from what was not a particularly threatening sky either, it was a pale white overcast sky.
Shortest
I Greece on a very warm evening. Had a few flashes of lightning, a brief shower that lasted a few minutes and then went. The people eating outside did not even budge.
-
Oh I see what you mean by that shower over York
-
Gone dark but very silent, no thunder yet! Seen a flock of gulls heading inland as they usually flock to sea at this time.
-
Did hear thunder, getting dark over Hartlepool. Any reports from down there?
-
Hear thunder here in Shotton
-
I was in Sunderland and I had a meeting from around 3.15 onwards and heard some deep booms of thunder. I managed to get a glimpse and saw some great CG lightning. As got to the city centre it was overcast and as I got on the bus home the rain started; massive drops but no more thunder and then the bus travelled towards Ryhope a big crash of thunder. It then stopped as I approached Seaham and the roads were all misty, you could literally see the steam rising into low clouds. I got to Shotton and it was bone dry.

Anyone seeing any lightning over the North Sea?
-
Seems to be all happening out in the north sea from those storms earlier
-
Had some heavy rain and thunder over Shotton earlier this evening before it all went out into the North Sea. Can see some black clouds to the north and west of me.
-
Had some heavy showers over Shotton, according to the lightning detector there was a lightning flash not far from here in the last 30 minutes.
-
Raining heavily in Shotton some rather large drops too
-
Very overcast, grey and some light to moderate rain here in Shotton. I thought we were going to get a storm earlier this afternoon as had what looked like a gust front and had some big drops of rain; then this overcast weather came. Rather chilly out there too.
-
Amazing how that storm I had earlier has shrunk dramatically to a small blip
-
Hi all, had a thunderstorm pass over Shotton, some great lightning and thunder. It has now gone out to sea not without producing the odd boom of thunder and some good rainbows.
-
Some great cumulonimbus clouds with prominent anvils knocking about here - they are blowing across quite quickly due to the strong winds. Had some heavy showers overnight and this morning. I am unsure if I heard thunder though.
-
Some fantastic clouds over the North Sea, shame they are out at sea though
-
Some heavy downpours near Shotton, mainly to the west heading towards Durham. Showers look small but intense, may end up thundery as they travel north
-
A storm just a stones throw away from me. It does feel warmer out there compared to yesterday all be it rather breezy. Some good convection to the south of me.
-
Now raining heavily in Shotton
-
Do you think that could include County Durham?
-
Feels quite cool here in the North East, some overcast skies but no sign of any thunder.

I think hail was reported in Peterlee / Horden during that earlier bout of storms this afternoon.
