Looking at the radar, we might just get something shortly from a shower heading in from the north west. I’m sure we’ll know within the next fifteen minutes or so.

Clutching at the shortest of straws here but BBC graphics show the showers coming in from more of a westerly direction later this evening and overnight and she did mention them moving inland across parts of Northern England so maybe some will get a bit of an unexpected covering.

Looking like more of the region could see something falling later today and overnight but I’d expect here to still be to far east for anything. another damn cold winters day to come though, great to be out and about in it but working so no chance. Plenty of chance to get out at weekend in the wind and rain though

Similar temperatures as here. showing -6.8c on my outside gauge which isn’t the most accurate and usually measures a bit on the higher side so I’d expect it to be between -7 and -8c. Still damn cold though and not looking forward to defrosting the car, that’s if I can even get in it

It’s unusual for us to be up there amongst the cold spots but today has been a proper old fashioned ice day. -6c at 10am with a maximum of -2.5c. Coming home in the car it was already showing -6c at 5 o’clock and -5-5c on my thermometer when it got home so could we reach minus double figures…….unlikely but not out of the question and even if it doesn’t, these are some of the lowest temperatures I’ve seen at home since late February 2018 As you say, icicles everywhere including hanging from the car, again something I haven’t seen since the BFTE and some of last nights snow is still on the main roads. a decent cold snap.

Snowing pretty hard here at the moment but a bit wet and doesn’t look to be sticking on the cars.

Maybe ended up with a couple of inches at best here which for eight hours continuous snow, isn’t a great effort but up here, little if any has thawed so probably plenty of ice in the morning. In the meantime, maybe a top up of snow in the next few hours as that front slowly heads south but not expecting anything much.

At the moment the showers are coming in on a very slight north of west angle and we are right at the northern edge of the heavier ones but if the same angle is maintained then the larger area currently over the Irish Sea should be heading across Lancashire in the next couple of hours. we’ve still managed a covering though, maybe a cm which is as much as I was expecting by this time and at the moment, everything falling is settling.

Took some doing but the snow has finally reached the eastern side of the region. only light but it’s all sticking and we have a slight covering. hopefully we’re set up for plenty more during daylight hours.

Missus has decided to watch this new Love Island crap, more plastic in the VILLAH than in a credit card factory. personally I’d sooner watch weeks of endless south westerlys and torrential drizzle but maybe I’m just a bit old fashioned anyway early start with the snow shovel in the morning so off to bed enjoy your snow

Not often that a regional is busier than the Mad thread but it looks like tonight is one of them. Hopefully the north west is rewarded with plenty of snow tomorrow, I think we all deserve it.

Problem is that a lot of them think it is their regional thread. great to see them wanting a low to “correct” north though.

Good to see that my snow symbols that disappeared overnight are back to an extent and with temperatures already down to -2c, it’s looking good for tomorrow. Looking more of a later in the day event though so just hope that we don’t go the wrong side of marginal before it starts.

Tuesday’s snow shower graphics have pretty much disappeared from here now apart from towards the evening. no surprise really and no surprise that Saturdays heavy rain symbols are still showing. just need the warnings to disappear now and the expected backtrack will be complete.

What a waste of all that snow down the North Sea.

In fairness, even John Kettley would struggle to make todays crap winters sound remotely interesting and if Jo Blyth was showing me the forecast for the mid Feb 1979 blizzards, I’d be fully focussed on the weather map

As already said, a massive contradiction between the snow warnings shown on Wednesday and Thursday to the sunny skies and bone dry shown on the app. the only thing that gives a chance of snow here is the cold temperatures being modelled but this could end up being the least snowy snow warning ever issued.

Aye A380 it is. see it quite a lot in the summer, circling above here before landing at Manchester and I’ve always wanted to fly on one so that’s something else I can tick off. it certainly beats our usual of spending 5 hours cramped on a plane only fit for a couple at best.

Aye it’s probably just a need to see it once from us. Thailand and the wider far east, maybe we’ll be back again in the future. we were on the point of booking a cruise from Sri Lanka back to Jordan in April but I don’t fancy paying a fortune to run the gauntlet through the Gulf at Yemen or risk it being cancelled at the last minute so that will have to wait until things calm down again.

Anyway enough of this will it won’t search for a flake of snow in winter. We’ve just booked two weeks holiday and for the first time ever, will be heading east beyond the Med so although it’s not until late September, Thailand and a few days in Dubai on the way home here we come. can’t wait

If there’s even the slightest chance of something cropping up to remove our snow chances, it will happen.

We’re off down to Manchester shortly to meet up with friends and as I’m still not clear of a nasty chesty cough I’m wrapped up like I’m going on a polar expedition. probably end up sweating walking about.
