  1. Pretty poor day up here with an alternating mixture of damp, drizzle and heavier stuff since first light and only the slightest hint of something a bit drier in between. In forecasting terms it’s probably been classed as mild but the 10.5c on the car coming home felt a lot less when I was getting wet walking to it. I can stand “mild” in winter providing its accompanied by a bit of brightness but 0c and bright sunshine feels a lot more pleasant than double figure temperatures and rain.
  2. @Weather-history didn’t that mild spell occur at the same time as the Morecambe Bay cockle picker disaster seem to remember it as being. also remember some lovely weather a few years later in the days/weeks after the Riverdance ferry ran around at Cleveleys
  3. @Dark Horse hypocrisy is often the biggest trait of celebrity, that and the extra thick skin needed to deflect any accusations of it. Personally I’m not anti Macdonalds but I drive past the entrance to my nearest one on the way to work five days a week and in the seven or so years it’s been there, I,ve only been in it once and that was as a passenger when when daughter wanted something to eat.
  4. Think there’s region wide agreement that the winds overnight have been worse than the last storm and it’s been no different here with it sounding like the roof was coming off at times in the early hours. maybe it’s died down slightly now although I can still hear it howling through the trees across the road but I’m expecting a fair bit of debris on the roads this morning.
  5. After a calm morning, the winds are starting to get up now so an afternoon for indoor jobs but maybe worth moving the car from near the wheely bins as they have a habit of going for a wander when it’s windy.
  6. Or have this as my local then I never have to worry about clearing ice or snow again
  7. I did but shifted the bare minimum, just enough to get the cars on the drive again. glad I did though as the rain and milder air hasn’t moved much so far today
  8. A bit of a weird amber warning area for Sunday/Mondays storm with all of Scotland included, most of Wales but little of England south of mid Lancs across to north Yorks apart from the extreme south and southwest. I could understand that if the centre of the low was crossing the midlands but isn’t it supposed to pass across northern Scotland so whilst the areas shown are probably justified, I’d have thought that far more of England would have been included. maybe time for further adjustments but this mornings update has already been put up and although it widens the area across Wales, there are no southerly changes across England. I suppose that damage can occur without an upgrade though and yellow or amber, it’s going to be a wild couple of days and as I’m a tight ass and it can cost a lot of money, it’s certainly not my favourite type of extreme weather.
  9. Wind is getting up, milder air has arrived and the snow melt has begun. just need the rain to arrive and the weekend ruiner can be welcomed in. looks like a day for some inside jobs.
  10. I can’t beat 20ft drifts but we did have a decent snowfall around 10th March here with approaching a foot of level snow and plenty of drifting in the lanes. TBH I’d forgotten about it until I read the posts and I don’t think it stuck around for that long but it was easily the heaviest snow of last winter and joins a list of years where the best is saved for the end.
  11. Do I clear this lot or do I hang fire and let tomorrows rain do it for me. only problem with the lazy option is that I can only get one car on the flat top bit of the drive with the other sitting on the road so maybe it’s time to get off my backside and burn some calories.
  12. Reached 3c this afternoon so the + temperature day here since Monday but still very little thaw of the snow on my north facing drive. highly likely this will change over the weekend though as mr mild crashes the winter party with his equally unwelcome mates, wet and windy.
  13. A bit of a covering on the cars and it’s filled in some of the gaps on the path where it had been salted but it’s dry at the moment and there’s nothing much on the radar that warrants the snow symbols showing until mid morning on the Met app. not been a bad effort up here though with the couple of inches of snow that fell earlier in the week still largely intact.
  14. We’ve managed a few flakes but the shower pretty much fizzled out just before it arrived here. more than the nothing I was expecting today though so not a bad effort if that’s as good as it gets.
  15. Looking at the radar, we might just get something shortly from a shower heading in from the north west. I’m sure we’ll know within the next fifteen minutes or so.
  16. Clutching at the shortest of straws here but BBC graphics show the showers coming in from more of a westerly direction later this evening and overnight and she did mention them moving inland across parts of Northern England so maybe some will get a bit of an unexpected covering.
  17. Looking like more of the region could see something falling later today and overnight but I’d expect here to still be to far east for anything. another damn cold winters day to come though, great to be out and about in it but working so no chance. Plenty of chance to get out at weekend in the wind and rain though
  18. Similar temperatures as here. showing -6.8c on my outside gauge which isn’t the most accurate and usually measures a bit on the higher side so I’d expect it to be between -7 and -8c. Still damn cold though and not looking forward to defrosting the car, that’s if I can even get in it
  19. It’s unusual for us to be up there amongst the cold spots but today has been a proper old fashioned ice day. -6c at 10am with a maximum of -2.5c. Coming home in the car it was already showing -6c at 5 o’clock and -5-5c on my thermometer when it got home so could we reach minus double figures…….unlikely but not out of the question and even if it doesn’t, these are some of the lowest temperatures I’ve seen at home since late February 2018 As you say, icicles everywhere including hanging from the car, again something I haven’t seen since the BFTE and some of last nights snow is still on the main roads. a decent cold snap.
  20. Snowing pretty hard here at the moment but a bit wet and doesn’t look to be sticking on the cars.
  21. A few flakes blowing about here again now as the front slowly heads south.
  22. Maybe ended up with a couple of inches at best here which for eight hours continuous snow, isn’t a great effort but up here, little if any has thawed so probably plenty of ice in the morning. In the meantime, maybe a top up of snow in the next few hours as that front slowly heads south but not expecting anything much.
  23. At the moment the showers are coming in on a very slight north of west angle and we are right at the northern edge of the heavier ones but if the same angle is maintained then the larger area currently over the Irish Sea should be heading across Lancashire in the next couple of hours. we’ve still managed a covering though, maybe a cm which is as much as I was expecting by this time and at the moment, everything falling is settling.
