  1. Strange things happen in Bacup, that’s probably why they filmed Brassic here.
  2. Showers are always a bit hit and miss but I’m sure most in this thread would take their chances with that.
  3. After a mainly foggy day, the frost has set in quickly and the car windscreen was frozen by 6pm. the strange thing is that although it’s fine, the door bell camera is showing what looks like falling snow so maybe it’s picking up the dampness in the air.
  4. Latest BBC forecast shows overnight snow showers moving well inland so there maybe a covering for some in the morning. it also showed further weather fronts heading south out of Scotland and across Northern England both later tomorrow and on New Years Day so still a bit of interest in what has quickly turned into a bit of a bore fest.
  5. I’m sure it’s exercise and that’s still allowed although No doubt the COVID police would beg to differ.
  6. Northerlies are good for the coast but don’t usually deliver this far inland but some of our best snow events have come from an easterly. that said, I live as far east as it’s possible to get in Lancashire before falling into West Yorkshire, further west it may be a different matter.
  7. Yeah a good covering now and still coming down. I’m just glad that I looked out of the window before reading the posts as it looked at one stage like my thoughts of it missing us and crossing the Pennines further south may be coming true. anyway looking at the radar we should get another hour or so before it clears through so maybe a covering of 50mm or so in the end.
  8. Fair bit of consistency with them. I just hope that they all show our region after the heavy snow has fallen and not that we have once again missed out.
  9. It is and that’s why a bit of fear has set in in the Mad thread with some worrying that the snow may end up in the channel and wanting that rarest of late Christmas prezzies, a northerly correction.
  10. At the moment there’s to much of a NNE element to the flow and they are barely heading inland but the main feature looks like it will be more ENE so hopefully will have no trouble getting well inland. this far inland though, that’s another matter.
  11. Well that’s put the kiss of death on it, time to get the BBQ out
  12. Isn’t it amazing how US storms can dump huge volumes of snow across thousands of square miles but in this country someone’s gain is always another poor sods loss and we are continually stuck with changes of a few miles making all the difference. oh to have a true nationwide snowstorm although it would still only be tiny compared to an American one.
  13. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it missed the northwest completely and hit the Midlands instead. this seems to have occurred a lot over recent winters and is up there with the southerly tracking systems that always seem to fizzle out south of Manchester, something that looks likely to be happening again tomorrow.
  14. Just been to Burnley and it’s amazing how frustratingly close we came to getting a covering from yesterday’s shower stream. only a mile north and east of here is white, yes with height but the snow line heading down into Burnley is way lower than my own altitude so it looks like the showers somehow managed to pretty much skirt around here. hopefully we get an invite to tonight’s snow party
  15. Yeah, just have a feeling that it may reach the Pennines further south than here and be more of a Peak District and North Midlands event. Love to be proved wrong though and see falling snow when I open the curtains in the morning.
  16. They’ve used a pretty broad brush though, even larger than the governments COVID Tier brush but at least the threat of snow is there. We usually get something from an easterly or ENE although after last nights local mega fail I’m not hopeful but in the end it’s just down to nowcasting.
  17. Not expecting anything tonight so I’m not disappointed when I get sod all.
  18. well after spending most of the last 20 hours either too far south, east or north of anything falling from the sky I’ve got my shovel available to borrow if any of you lucky people need snow shifting never mind there is a chance of something from the east later today although no doubt the mighty Pennines will stop that dead in its tracks and give Yorkshire a covering instead
  19. We’re only a small country but a huge one when it comes to variations in weather.
  20. The timing might not have been but the weather certainly was.
  21. Now that was damn cold, better blizzard in the 2013 version but for bitter cold and ice, 2018 won hands down.
  22. Better effort than here although it’s only just started doing anything over here.
  23. Shower stream has definitely moved south a bit but but even at my altitude it’s still very wet and struggling to stick. better than rain though I suppose.
  24. Started doing something here but it’s only light and not sure whether it’s rain, sleet or snow.
  25. Has anyone any idea why showers on a westerly often grow in intensity when the cross the Pennines but usually die a death when coming in from the other direction. watching the radar, parts of the southern dales are getting hammered by something, either wet or white.
