Decent day here so far.
plenty of time for our share of showers to arrive but looking at the radar it seems like today is one of those rare occasions where the best weather is east of the M6.

Another BBC forecast that went a bit wrong. Wasn't forecast to get any further north than South Manchester and it ended up near the Borders!
ITV didn’t have any better luck with theirs.
as already said though if it had been snow they would have got it bang on.

So glad the rain ended up further north. We need all the rain we can get here.
We do need some decent rain although after the deluges throughout the winter, it’s amazing how quickly the ground dried out and streams became a trickle.
I just hope that the next few days are the exception though and not the start of a wet summer as is often the case with a pattern change at this time of year.

Well the fronts from the south have no problem dumping the rain in spring and summer however in winter if there is snow coming from the south it fails to get further north than the Midlands I am sure there must be a reason but for the life of me I have no explanation so dammed frustrating.

Thinking just the same myself.

My temperature sensor isn’t the most accurate but it reached 22c this afternoon and the warmest day here so far this year.
certainly plenty of opportunity in the garden for topping up what is already as good a tan as I’ve paid a fortune to get in the past and that’s with using cream.
it’s just a shame that things look to be breaking down over the next few days but after a lengthy dry spell the ground could do with a bit of a watering.

Been nice & sunny lately but that wind has certainly been a feature. Very gusty at times which has spoilt it a bit. Hopefully it'll ease off over the coming days.
It’s certainly been rattling the fence panels a lot here over the last few days but this morning seems a bit calmer.
that said it’s been a fantastic few weeks of usable weather and with plenty of time on my hands, the garden is looking much better for it.

Hammering it down now.

Surprised no one has mentioned the lightning around Ramsbottom about 40 minutes ago.
I could see it from my house in Hadfield.
Saw/heard this up in Bacup but nothing afterwards.
Went outside afterwards waiting for round two, amazing how mild it felt.

Ooh something wet falling from the skies... it's so wonderful and rarely seen this winter, that I feel I should extend my best welcoming wishes and host it for the next 18 hrs or so...

Sticking here now, a cm or two at most but still coming down hard.
is it to much to ask for a hard frost after it stops so I can manage a bit of winter walking in winter conditions even though it’s spring tomorrow.
-
Blizzard conditions here for the last half hour or so but pretty wet stuff and struggling to stick.
on the tops I’d imagine it’s a different matter though.

It’s a good job it’s a leap year otherwise the February sunshine we’ve finally got would have been in March

Some large flakes of snow here now as the the cold air digs in.
5th morning in the row with snow falling here which given that this miserable winter had so far only given me a single time, isn’t a bad turnaround.

Feels raw out
Horrible day’s weather although I can’t remember the last day where the weather wasn’t awful.
one positive is that at least light nights are coming.

We’re right under one of the streamers, just a shame it’s nothing but sleet and cold rain.

Maybe it’s just from a different direction but the roar of the wind seems even louder than last weeks storm.
the rain is just the same though, loud of the conservatory roof and no doubt wet when I have to go out later.
so much for arranging something months in advance.

Another weekend and a repeat case of battening down the hatches and staying indoors as Storm Dennis lashes our country. Locally I'm quite sheltered from the South Westerly winds although I expect it will still be downright wet and foul...but places to the North and West including Lancashire and Cumbria are in the 'sweet spot' for endless amounts of rain... hope they avoid any serious flooding but I fear water courses are already quite high.
Yeah, given the sodden ground from last weekend, anything approaching last weekends totals will cause even more misery for prone areas.
we’re in the amber zone here and Sundays flooding was the worst I’ve seen in the town since I was a kid so what’s the chance of having two 1 in 50 year floods in less than a week.

Raining again
Thankfully it’s stopped raining here but it’s still windy.
although the Irwell peaked slightly lower than Boxing Day 2015 the flooding here seems a fair bit worse than it was then

I don’t think I’ve ever seen rain like this. There is ice in it too on my veluX. My waterfall is poring like the pump is on !!
It’s getting pretty serious around these parts now.
I’ve lived in this house for over 20 years and the water pouring down Todmorden Road is the worst I’ve ever seen

Squall line hitting now!
Yeah, pretty impressive stuff but the intensity of the rain again won’t help with the flooding in the valley.

A fair bit of flooding in Bacup town centre now and the road down the valley is now shut where the Irwell has over topped its banks.
maybe not quite as bad as Boxing Day 2015 but certainly the worst we’ve had here since.

Flood warnings now for the River Irwell from Bacup down to Ramsbottom and looking at the amount of water running down the main road towards the centre I can understand why.
