Congratulations.
You now have that headache of what to get for the Birthday a week before Christmas.
My wife's is the 12th Dec and thats difficult.
Mine’s this weekend so the family have plenty of experience in splitting the presents and I’m pretty clued up in receiving two lots within a couple of days.

Easily the best early Christmas present we could have so just need to open the curtains to a foot of snow on the 25th and I’m not bothered if there’s nothing else to open afterwards.

Just looked at the model charts and after carrying out a detailed analysis of what is being shown; here is my forecast for the Christmas period.
could be wet, could be dry.
could be windy, could be calm.
could be cloudy, could be sunny.
could be mild could be cold.
could be rain, could be snow.
oh and it will probably go dark just before teatime and come light again around breakfast time.
apart from that it’s all up for grabs.

That front is heading south slower than Burnley move up the pitch
On the plus side though, at least it’s given us a second decent day here and probably the best overall weekend since the summer.

It’s a shame that we can’t move Christmas about to suit when the snow is due but given the way that the models usually chop and change, they would be rushing round booking Christmas Day the evening before and no doubt it would be planned in to coincide with a chance of a snow shower in London with mild and driving rain up here
meanwhile the sun is out again and it’s the second day of spring like conditions so wether it’s seasonal or not, it’s certainly usable weather.

Bit of a blowy start this am, cloudy and it's dry, currently 9.7°C. Rostherne max yesterday of 12.6 °C, twas a mild one.
Excitement of snow diminishing from these charts. Shut your eyes @Day 10.
At least the charts show the chance of something wintry across the region and TBH, the slightest covering will be an improvement on what we usually end up with.
just watched the BBC forecast and it hardly edges you towards dusting the sledge down but equally it dangles the carrot that the cold air may be far enough south to put us in the game.

Yes, that was nice to see.
Playing well, so frustrating as we should be 8th now on 26 points pushing for Europe. Yes we should be punished but 10 points is utterly ridiculous.
Anyways onwards & upwards.
How do you feel about Kompany? Stick or twist?
Stubborn with the way he wants to set up but playing out from the back is no good when we’re forever doing no more than passing between keeper and defender.
we’ve got some of the fastest players we’ve ever had and an ability to get in behind and frighten defenders to death but most of the time we move at the speed of continental drift and offer no threat at all.
As for Kompany, not sure although I did turn to the missus at one stage and say do you think the two managers could swap technical areas without anyone knowing as at least with Dyche you knew what you were getting, pleasant on the eye or not.
anyway good luck for the rest of the season and I agree that 10 points deduction was way OTT.

I'm worried about this game, Branthwaite and Tarky have been outstanding, however, Branthwaite is suspended so it'll be either Keane or Godfrey instead, both fill me with utter dread!
Nowt to worry about for you in the end.
the less said about us the better other than predictable throughout and slightly better in the second half.
It was good to see Sean Dyche get a good reception from all corners of the ground when he walked across before kick off.

I feel sorry for our ex keeper James Trafford. This lad is fantastic but his confidence must be shattered at the moment. Just hope Burnley fans give him time
He’s been pretty good the last couple of games, apparently outstanding in the one sided draw we scraped at Brighton and a lot of the goals scored against us wouldn’t have been stopped by two keepers.
His confidence is improving but TBH it’s Kompany’s insistence that we play out from the back like City but without City’s quality that causes most of the squeaky bum moments.
oh and not to mention the 19 million we paid for him with no proven experience
A few years ago you’d never hear Burnley and 19 million mentioned in the same sentence

Tarks and Keane, 2 ex clarets and both excellent when at Burnley.
No doubt one will score and the other make a goal line clearance to deny our equaliser

And we’re off to the Turf at tea time to see what is hopefully a disappointing first visit back for Sean Dyche
that said it all depends on the imminent arrival of our first grandchild and even though he’s a few days late, he doesn’t seem in any hurry to make an appearance but listening to my daughter earlier, maybe not long to wait now

Nostalgia… January 1940 Glossop
wonder what the top of Woodhead Road, snake pass and Woodhead pass would’ve looked like? Plus Buxton and around…Looking at the snow that had blown down into Glossop, the top of Woodhead was probably clear

As already said, prospects not looking good for snow over the Christmas period and the falling out and wrist slashing is well underway in the Mad Thread.
Over a week to go yet so maybe things will change for the better but history tells us that if there is a way for the UK to grasp defeat from the jaws of victory, we will find it so I think the best option is to just open the curtains on Christmas morning and pick whichever of the following sums up your mood.

What volume Ian? And routes? I’m intrigued. Southern Fells vol my favourite. Absolute legendary works.
Volume 3 the Central Fells, mainly as Langdale is the bit i have spent most time in and are most familiar with.
unfortunately I don’t have the complete set as just picked them up randomly in second hand book shops many years ago.
I have some of the larger books he did with Derry Brabbs as well, covering the Lakes as well as the Pennine way, coast to coast and Scotland.
TBH his Pennine Way book as as good a reference to the walk as you will get.

Still plenty of time for it to change but it’s unusual to have the possibility of a region wide event rather than the usual that one towns gain is another towns loss.
TBH though it looks like it may have more of a westerly feed to it as a north westerly would usually leave here and the rest of East Lancashire dry with the showers passing to our west down towards Manchester.
I’ll definitely take the potential though.
Just had a three day enforced break from here thanks to our mobile phone and internet provider having local “mast issues”
I was that bored on Sunday night that I actually picked up a book with pages in it and spent a decent couple of hours walking the Lakeland fells with the late great Alfred Wainwright rather than reading on my IPad
lesson learned was not to have all of your IT eggs in one basket

Rain has eased off a bit over the last 20 minutes or so but I can still hear it being blown against the windows by the wind.
definitely not an evening for outside plans.

Flood warnings out for both the upper and lower Irwell catchments now saying that they expect the heaviest of the rain this evening up to midnight.
Same on the other side of the hill where the upper Calder catchment also has a warning.
maybe they are expecting that the mass of rain further north is going to be heading south.

Some seriously bright colours showing on the radar around the Yorkshire Dales/ upper Ribble Valley.
We are at the bottom edge of it at the moment and it’s hammering it down here so it must be pretty moist further north.
no surprise that there is a yellow rain warning across parts of the north.
