  1. Dog sitting for the afternoon so decided. To take him out while it was fine.

not the best plan as fine lasted about 15 minutes then drizzle became horizontal rain so it was quickly abandoned until conditions improve, knowing our look around June.

it wasn’t all depressing though as I managed to get within 20 feet or so of this lovely creature before it disappeared into the undergrowth.

plenty about locally these days but it’s still nice to spot one.

  2. Looks like the forecasters got the timing of the rain spot on.

Started here about an hour ago and it’s hammering it down now so the next few hours at least look grim.

hopefully it will clear through to give a drier period this afternoon but it’s interesting to see that we have got a buy one, get one free offer on yellow warnings today with both wind strength and rain amounts looking to be an issue as the day goes on.

Just hope we can get this grot out of the way and the models come good with something colder and more seasonal as we reach Christmas🤞

  3. Dry start to the day here but the Met app for my location is showing heavy rain symbols for almost all of today and Saturday with nothing drier until into the early hours of Sunday.

thankfully this isn’t backed up by the forecast which at least showed gaps between periods of rain but I think unless you like wet conditions, the next couple of days are going to be depressing especially when last weekend, in conditions favourable for snow, we couldn’t buy a shower.

  4. We might have missed out on a warning but we certainly haven’t missed out on the rain.

absolutely torrential on the journey home and roads are like rivers especially the bottom of the one out of Bacup centre  towards Todmorden.

yellow warning in place for the upper Calder catchment but so far nothing for the Upper Irwell on this side of the hill but 24mm rain for the day and 8mm in the last hour shows how wet it has been this afternoon.

Hopefully though i don’t think I will be venturing outside again before morning.

A fascinating read as always and nice to see that it is possible for what looks like a channel low to dump large amounts of snow across all of our region rather than stopping at the north Midlands.

meanwhile back to early winter 2023 and I can hear the rain bouncing on the conservatory roof.

The default conditions of mild and wet are back again🤬

  6. Another thing I have noticed about Met Office weather warnings recently is that they spend the briefest amount of time talking about what is possibly going to happen with the weather with a full rundown then of every way that you may be affected and what you need to collect together in order to be prepared.

Nowt wrong with that but do I really need to be told that my bus or train may be affected by heavy rain anymore than being told that my feet may get wet.

IMHO they should just give us the figures behind the warning whether it be wind speed, rainfall amounts of snow depth and let us carry our or own risk assessments.

    Sorry but rant over🤬

    Not confusing at all

The biggest confusion to me is that all western facing regions apart from one seems to have a warning.

no guessing which is the region missing one, especially that there didn’t seem to be anything unusual about the system approaching.

just a bog standard front coming in from the west/SW so you’d have expected that western upslopes of the Pennines at least would have been in the firing line for some heavy rain.

That said, if it’s not a warning for snow, I don’t want one.

heavy rain and flooding doesn’t float my boat😂

A cold and frosty morning, -3.1C.

Haven’t stuck my nose out of the door yet but I could see the frost on the bathroom, velux window.

looking at the forecast though it’s probably going to be the last one for a while with the coming days being rain, rain and more rain😩

  9. Snow is slowly thawing up here but I’ve still had to clear the remainder off the drive so that the cold rain can get to work in removing what’s left.

lower down though it’s probably a different story, certainly little or nothing left as I went down the Calder Valley to do a job at daughter and boyfriends house this morning.

just hope that the temperatures keep above freezing tonight otherwise todays thaw will be lethal.

Did anyone witness the Fiddlers Ferry demolition?

Going to be a strange change in the skyline as those cooling towers could be seen for miles.

Saw it on the local news earlier but it looked very misty and certainly not the best day for watching something as unique as that.

your right about seeing them for miles, there are a couple of summits both within an hours walk of here where Fiddlers Ferry could be seen with, in perfect conditions, Liverpool to the right and the mountains of North Wales further in the distance.

Think the residents of coniston might disagree they had 15 inches ,lol

That’s the point though, a freak occurrence with others not many miles away seeing little or nothing.

the Irish seas equivalent of lake effect snow and similar to what the North Sea dumped on parts of South Yorkshire in November 2010

yeah I think the days of deep lying snow here apart from freak occurrences are over.

Battlefront snow is as rare as hens teeth these days so we are relying more and more on shower streams to give us a decent amount of snow and, as yesterday showed in Cumbria; these are very much an all or nothing event with some getting a dumping while others down the road seeing a few flakes at best.

frustrating but our part of the world usually ends up feeding on scraps.

Snow again here as the temperature has dropped to around 0c with the dp just that little bit lower. If what is still lying on the roads and pavements freezes, it'll be chaos in the morning.

Aye it’s fully turned to snow here as well, not heavy but the cars are covered again so it’s just down to the amount of precipitation now although the Met app shows nothing but rain for me overnight.

Thankfully I’m not working tomorrow but I am supposed to be doing a job at daughters down Calderdale but they’ve had a fair bit of snow this afternoon so maybe not.
