Did anyone witness the Fiddlers Ferry demolition?
Going to be a strange change in the skyline as those cooling towers could be seen for miles.
Saw it on the local news earlier but it looked very misty and certainly not the best day for watching something as unique as that.
your right about seeing them for miles, there are a couple of summits both within an hours walk of here where Fiddlers Ferry could be seen with, in perfect conditions, Liverpool to the right and the mountains of North Wales further in the distance.

Think the residents of coniston might disagree they had 15 inches ,lol
That’s the point though, a freak occurrence with others not many miles away seeing little or nothing.
the Irish seas equivalent of lake effect snow and similar to what the North Sea dumped on parts of South Yorkshire in November 2010

yeah I think the days of deep lying snow here apart from freak occurrences are over.
Battlefront snow is as rare as hens teeth these days so we are relying more and more on shower streams to give us a decent amount of snow and, as yesterday showed in Cumbria; these are very much an all or nothing event with some getting a dumping while others down the road seeing a few flakes at best.
frustrating but our part of the world usually ends up feeding on scraps.

No such problem on the other side of the mighty Pennines

Snow again here as the temperature has dropped to around 0c with the dp just that little bit lower. If what is still lying on the roads and pavements freezes, it'll be chaos in the morning.
Aye it’s fully turned to snow here as well, not heavy but the cars are covered again so it’s just down to the amount of precipitation now although the Met app shows nothing but rain for me overnight.
Thankfully I’m not working tomorrow but I am supposed to be doing a job at daughters down Calderdale but they’ve had a fair bit of snow this afternoon so maybe not.

A few flakes falling now but I’m still not convinced that it will amount to anything and warrant the Met warning but it’s something I’m happy to be completely wrong about.
just been in the Yorkshire thread though and it’s no surprise that places with modest altitude are seeing falling and even settling snow while we were getting drizzle from an area of bright echoes.

Snowing at Spring Mount. Flakes increasing in size all the time
And only a mile away nothing but the odd flake of sleet between the spots of rain.
it’s refusing to budge and yet only 5 miles away the other side of the border, it has perked up again.
strange weather.

Just started doing something but it’s more sleet than snow.
the main area with the bright echoes seems to have stopped at the town centre and is refusing to head any further east although if it’s rain, it can stop there.

Just cleared the snow off the cars and drive and it’s certainly not slushy although not frozen underneath either.
as for the heavier band of something currently crossing Lancashire; it hasn’t quite got here yet but looking at the radar it’s only about 4 miles away so I should know in the next few minutes but no signs of anything falling yet.

Anyone any thoughts on this finger of heavier stuff coming in south of Southport. It seems to be heading east towards an area between the M65 and M62. Its showing as fairly heavy and if it stays that way is it possibly going to fall as snow as it comes over higher ground. Out in Manchester right now so planning the journey home, as it gets a little difficult if more snow falls. Thanks.
At first I thought it was heading NE but your right it does seem to be east now so we’ll soon find out, unless it dies out of course.
the lighter stuff to the southwest is knocking on the door here now so I suppose it’ll give a good idea but it’s making painfully slow progress and no doubt has already been taken over by the milder uppers.

Very little thaw so far, even off the cars but it’s gloomy and looks like anything that falls later will be rain rather than snow.
thankfully the trip to the Trafford Centre was cancelled so today is being spent inside putting the Christmas tree and other bits up.
A week early for us and the outside lights were put up last week but we’re trying to get everything sorted before the birth of our first grandchild stops any plans in its tracks.

Been watching it creeping up. How much influence does the Irish Sea have? High tide at Blackpool at 2.32 pm today. Still sullen cold up here in the hills. Temp risen a tiny bit to 35.1C.
35.1c, not bad for December

We’ve got a couple of inches of snow overnight and there’s still a few flakes falling so not a bad effort in the end.
eyes then on the next system which seems further north than expected and brings parts of the region in with a shout at a more snow overnight tonight and into Monday morning.
plenty of time for it to change yet but in the meantime, some decent walking conditions underfoot for today and dry weather to enjoy them.

Coming down steady here now.
still no more than a slight covering but a damn site better than it was an hour ago and looking at the radar, I think we’ve a fair bit of snow still heading this way.

All this talking about other folk having snow and we’ve got snow.
hardly amber warning stuff but it’s coming down ok and for the first time this winter, we’ve got a covering

Are you surprised ,lol
No, not at all
bottom of the table Burnley putting 5 past Sheffield United is the biggest surprise of my day and annoyingly it wasn’t my day for the season tickets
No doubt there will have been a few z list celebrity’s who just happened to be in the south lakes today who can star in the upcoming documentary about the late 2023 severe cold snap although most of the the programme will be about the three flakes that fell in the Home Counties

Couldn’t believe the pitiful amount of coverage that ITV news has just given to the snow in Cumbria.
obviously the wrong end of of the country

Can u good folk of the NW please leave the Pennine snow shield open tonight,
Yours eagerly, East Yorkshire....
Across most of Lancashire it can’t even be bothered to reach the Pennines, never mind try and cross them.
It’s not often we see as dry a day as today from a such a moisture laden SW flow.

Looks like the gaps are filling across Wales now, which is better.
Just going to say that the gaps in Irish Sea shower bands are almost filled in now so unless they completely fizzle out, even the parts that have had a dry day look like they will get something in the next hour or so.

Light snow here at the moment but looking at the radar it won’t last long so time to switch the doorbell camera off and back to my Saturday night music watch on YouTube.

Still snowing here and wind is blowing it about a bit but it’s still not amounted to much other than covering the cars again.
better than rain I suppose though so I’ll stop winging and accept that I’m doing a lot better than most in here at the moment
