  1. Turned professional last week after placing several bets that snow weather warnings for the north west would fail miserably at the last moment and we’d end up with nothing. i soon realised how easy this betting malarkey was.
  2. My fiver is going on a dry high pressure sat right over the UK with the snow stopping to the east and the only thing falling from the sky being low flying toys.
  3. I’ve never had the willpower to quit anything, good job I’ve never smoked a fag in my life. drinking, now that’s another story.
  4. I’m on the fence with this one although it’s looking like it will be damn cold sat on there. one part of me wants bitter cold and heavy drifting snow purely because it’s as rare as rocking horse muck these days but the other has one eye on lighter nights and some warmth with an attitude that if I can’t have snow in winter I certainly don’t want it in spring. what I definitely don’t want to see though although probably the most likely outcome is record breaking snow across the East and SE while we enjoy sunshine and conditions as dry as the Atacama. No doubt in a few days we’ll know
  5. It was damn cold and I remember us having some snow on the ground here but the main memory was seeing news coverage of the SE being buried. and that was back in day when weather conditions had to be newsworthy before they made the news and heavy falls of snow were at least six inches rather than a few millimetres.
  6. Yep just had a quick peek in the mad thread myself and it looks like it’s still on. i still think that the final outcome will be a watered down version though but looking at the depth of cold and strength of the flow i can’t see why even ourselves won’t see some snow from this set up.
  7. I bet the earthquake was caused by the weight of potential currently in the mad thread. just wait until it all goes belly up and the toys and prams go their separate ways, now that will be some earthquake.
  8. Looking at the news reports they can’t even decide where the epicentre was with one saying it was north of Swansea and another under the Bristol Channel. tsunami alert.........no it’s just the Severn Bore.
  9. No surprise really but nowt here. As Di Ox would no doubt say, at least our region has missed out on the worst of the earthquake affecting other parts of the country.
  10. A bit of sleet falling when it first came light but before long it was just plain old cold rain. hopefully the clearance will come through early enough to not spoil the rest of the day, especially as we look to be the only part of the country under wet conditions and that today is meant to be the better of the weekend.
  11. I agree with the setup’s being ok, it’s the final delivery which has been disappointing but unfortunately being the wrong side of marginal seems to be the default setting of recent winters. to quote the carol, I like my snow to be “deep and crisp and even” but my hillside has seen precious little of that since March 2013.
  12. After all of the attempts at sustained cold and snow which ended up as wet sleet and barely a frost, i’m looking forward to a few dry days and, hopefully a couple of usable ones this weekend. The setup of of the last few weeks might float someone’s boat but it’s certainly something i’ll be happy to see the back of.
  13. I was told years ago that this part of the country had a massive fall in January 1940 which dumped almost 4 feet of level snow but whether it was a single event or topped up over time i’m not sure.
  14. I don’t know what set up would give us that amount of snow but 125mm of rain fell here in the hours leading up to the 2015 Boxing Day floods so using the standard conversion rate that would give us snow at least a metre deep.
  15. And here. There were cars completely buried in the lane up from our house.
  16. Rain with a hint of sleet this morning and a short spell of back edge snow before the clearance to bright sunshine this afternoon. I’ll file that one in the downgrade tray although it’s getting full now so think I need a larger tray. in the meantime I better get the shovel out and clear the latest fall of potential off the drive before tomorrow’s lot arrives.
  17. Interesting days weather coming up dependent on which of the models you look at. could be snowy, could be heavy snow. on the other hand it could be rain or even a mainly dry day. my heart says heavy driving snow with blizzard conditions, my head says a bit of sleet and cold rain with dry spells in between.
  18. Well it didn’t take long for most of last nights snow to become slush and then disappear. not a bad effort while it lasted though, just a shame that tomorrow’s event is looking to go the shape of the pear for most of us.
  19. Doesn’t seem to have been anymore overnight but at least the 2-3 inches we had has remained. all eyes on tonight and Tuesday now.
  20. Drove up it myself about 1 hour ago and it was atrocious, completely covered and practically whiteout conditions. TBH i’m suprised it’s still open, few local roads are closed.
  21. Yeah it’s still coming down heavy and must now be at least a couple of inches deep. after weeks of disappointments it’s nice to see a decent fall of snow finally come off.
  22. It looks like attack of the blob part 2 the sausage has my name on it, heavy snow again.
  23. Hope you all enjoyed your blob, i’ve just spent what seemed like a lifetime driving through the worst of it up the M66. it would have been slightly quicker but for the Range Rover owner who obviously didn’t realise that amongst the benefits of your 100k outlay is an ability to actually drive above walking pace in snow. home now though and for once there looks to be more snow in Bury than Bacup.
