  1. Not the heaviest snow but probably the best blizzard here since 1979.
  2. Steady snow here and starting to get a reasonable covering on the grass etc. could be an interesting journey north for the Man U fans heading to Turf Moor and for us going over Deerplay summit from Bacup.
  3. Started here and not rain, not sleet, not hail but that most unusual of sites proper snow. light at the moment but the radar shows a large area of heavier stuff heading this way so maybe a reasonable covering.
  4. Got our standard 1cm overnight but at least it doesn’t look like melting anytime soon and hopefully will have some more added when that area reaches us in the next few minutes. providing it reaches here and is snow when it does.
  5. Yep it happens every time and we still get sucked in to the hype. maybe one day a decent wintry spell will just appear unannounced...........unlikely but we live in hope.
  6. True but i’d sacrifice my joke winters for theirs if I could have a southern summer. Other than on very high ground i think there is less difference in winter conditions throughout England than those in summer and as I get holder I clamber for heat more than I do cold.
  7. I agree that endless mild and wet is a depressing waste of a season that could offer much more but after the let downs of the last few weeks and this week in particular i’ll be happy with a period of zero expectations. i’ve had enough of this potential to last a lifetime, spent every evening this week shovelling the damn stuff and there’s still more every time I look at the forecasts.
  8. Nowt much to report here, some sleet, a bit of hail and the odd flash of lightening somewhere in the more exciting distance. oh and the temperature has been stuck on 2.5c for days.
  9. On about that at work today, a week long cold spell without a frost. i’ve seen more wintry conditions in late spring and early autumn. yes it’s been excellent for some parts of the UK and half decent for a few in this region but poor IMBY
  10. Better get my virtual snow shovel ready again for later although my forecast for the next 48 hours is pretty straightforward. tonights showers will be sleet at best due to uppers and surface temperatures being just the wrong side of marginal. saturday will see snow fail to reach the southernmost parts of the region whilst plastering the midlands sunday the milder sector will arrive earlier than expected and mean that the northwest sees a bit of sleet over high ground and cold rain elsewhere while heavy drifting snow across areas east of the Pennines causes chaos. No science behind it but worth a fiver of anyone’s money at the bookies.
  11. After just watching the underwhelming BBC forecast I doubt it. he managed to do a full forecast without even mentioning northern England, skipping straight from Scotland to South Wales when talking about snow chances.
  12. Another cm of snow overnight to add to the ............nothing I already had. will we get the holy grail of accumulating snow from the showers forecast today, all will be revealed.
  13. TBH I can’t remember the last weather warning I was under that turned out to be justified, probably Boxing Day 2015. certainly non of the warnings this winter have come close with a couple for winds that turned out to be little more than leaf rustlers, two for fog where we had clear starry skies and several for snow which either changed course at the last minute of ended up as rain. one day, maybe tomorrow potential with become reality.
  14. The heavy snow shower that dropped a couple of cm here just before tea time is a distant memory now. nearly all of it has melted along with most of the bit that fell last night and temperatures are still at a balmy 2.5c. Yes the forecast is looking promising for tomorrow but how many times have we said that this winter. role on lighter nights and warmer weather.
  15. Let’s hope that they move in holding hands with the showers although knowing our rotten luck, the showers will sod off to plaster other parts of the country while we bask in dry and sunshine.
  16. Not much more than a slushy mess now though but it did dump a couple of cm in little or no time which was an improvement on last nights non event. maybe more to come overnight and Friday is looking good but worryingly the temperatures are over the place at the moment.
  17. Well assuming that today and Friday don’t deliver an amazing upturn in conditions, that was an impressive let down IMBY. We invited snow, cold and wind to our party but snow said he preferred staying in Scotland and the far north of England, wind said he had been given a last minute better offer further south and cold didn’t even bother to reply. In fairness snow has said he may call to see me later tonight and tomorrow but he’s still not sure whether to drop in on West Yorkshire instead. obviously I need to be more careful who I consider inviting in future. for those who got my event though, we’ll done i’m not really jealous
  18. We had a heavy wet sleety snowy mix as I drove home from Morrison’s. not looked since to avoid disappointment.
  19. Still showing a chance of snow from that system later today but temperatures seem a bit high for anything other a slushy mess. after that a chance of snow showers again tomorrow but a gradual warming trend and mediocrity returns.
  20. Nowt special here really. A couple of inches of snow on the ground and a bit falling at the moment but after watching the forecast I was probably expecting more than that.
  21. Yes both sides of the summit, also A56 Accrington Bypass, A671 Burnley to Bacup, Crown Point Road although why anyone would want to try that one in weather like this is beyond me.
  22. Local news saying a few roads in East Lancs are impassable at the moment because of snow and abandoned vehicles.
  23. Stopped again but left a covering. no doubt it will sod off over the other side of the Pennines and drop three times as much over West Yorkshire as seems to have been the case all day.
