  1. Thunder and the heaviest snow of the day here. it was already a white sleety mess on pavements and grass but at the moment it’s proper snow, not that fake looking crap. long may it continue.
  2. I think today is going to be a case of fail or holy grail depending on whether you get under a streamer. they definitely look like they will cross the region in lines so the difference between having a dumping and seeing next to nothing may only be a few miles. hopefully troughs will develope in the flow to offer more widespread snow with this looking more likely later in the day and evening. possibly a bit of transient snow from the storm late tomorrow but it looks to far north for us with more chance of rain and the heavy snow further north.
  3. A bit of snow on the car windscreens and bathroom velum but TBH was expecting something a bit more substantial overnight. the forecast still looks good for plenty of showers today, just need them to materialise and it could be interesting later on. as for the widweek storm, keep it heading a bit further south and we could get some heavy snow from that and the bonus of little milder incursion. we’ll see.
  4. Worse of the snow is meant to be afternoon and evening and the road over to Burnley is a priority gritting route so you should be ok. getting home may be the problem though unless your staying until spring
  5. Been mainly dry for the last couple of hours but showers at the moment and starting to turn to sleet and wet snow. still marginal with temperatures though but hopefully these will fall of in the next couple of hours. Where about in Rossendale are you heading because there can be a massive difference in snow amounts between the bottom of the valley at Ramsbottom and up at Bacup and surrounding villages.
  6. A nice clean one to get stuck into. its raining here at the moment but i’m Having faith in the forecast and expecting snow by morning.
  7. Jo Blyth’s forecast on Granada was less than inspiring for snow chances over the next couple of days and the graphics showed the midweek storm to be still to our north. hopefully she was using old data. now it’s eyes down for Di Ox or Eno to see how they can turn our best chance of snow for several winters into a mini heatwave.
  8. A bit of sleet mixed in with the heavy rain on the way home but the car temperature was saying 5c so uppers must be looking favourable. just need the surface temperatures to drop a couple of degrees and we should start to see more snow in the showers, that’s providing the showers are actually about. i’m more confident now than I was earlier last night and expecting to see snow on the ground up here tomorrow morning and the app graphics for Tuesday currently show snow throughout........please no downgrades.
  9. Another day and still no closer with the will it, won’t it snow and then wind events. mabe the Met have run out of warning graphics, maybe there is nothing to get worried about after all. we’ll see.
  10. I reckon that’s going to be the reality, a wintry mix for most with a covering over high ground and probably a decent amount over the tops. maybe some disruption on trans Pennine routes but for the vast majority it’ll probably be just cold, wet and miserable. no science behind this but that puts me on a par with the models and professionals who also seem clueless with the upcoming events.
  11. Remember it blowing a heavy shutter straight out of its tracks at work narrowly missing people working inside. it then spent the next half hour blowing like a sail until we could stop it. there was a lot of damage across the region and tragically several deaths, something that no one wants to see but as you say, the track and intensity seem very similar.
  12. Happy birthday for Tuesday, just hope someone buys you a shovel and a 3 month subscription of instant snow.
  13. Take road traffic accidents out of the equation and the main factor in winter relates deaths, certainly amongst the elderly in this country is poverty. other countries recognise this and deal with it accordingly but we’re British and do things differently. That said though I suspect that the biggest health threat from the weather in this country is depression by just how bad it is throughout the year. at least other countries know that better conditions are over the horizon, here it’s the luck of the draw what order the seasons come in.
  14. Do you reckon that they have forecasts of feet of snow that suddenly downgrade into mild mush. its a bloody volcano and probably still causes less mixing of warm air than our piddling Irish Sea does.
  15. Missed it, just hope I don’t miss the accumulating snow that’s forecast.
  16. Sooner have snow, i’ll wait until summer and a breakdown from a 30c heatwave for my thunder and lightning if you don’t mind.
  17. It will be just typical of our look that the most of annoying of phrases, southerly correction doesn’t happen on the one occasion we want it to. looks like a 24-36 window of snow for the fortunate ones then wet and wild. maybe the Met called this right in not including our region in any snow warnings although they are probably still wiping the egg from their faces after the December warnings went belly up.
  18. Decent watering hole on a nice evening in summer when you can stand outside. otherwise it’s a bit cramped but the beer has been good when i’ve been in.
  19. It’s a good job that I take the Met and BBC app symbols with a pinch of salt as they are getting watered down for my location every time they update. 4 days of heavy snow showers showing on Friday is now a few snow showers on Tuesday, sleet on Wednesday and rain on Thursday. even the return to bitter cold afterwards is now coolish at best.
  20. I don’t remember any heavy snow here between the end of winter 1979 and the freak blizzard of late April 1981. we must have had something as every winter in them days delivered to a certain extent but nothing sticks in my mind.
  21. Dark dismal and roads full of pot holes and temporary traffic lights. oh and the chance of a bit of snow the higher up the valley you are.
  22. I expect that the areas covered now will go Amber next, the likelihood threshold is already at its maximum, just the impact one to raise. as for us I think we will get a yellow warning, either later today or in the morning but there must still be a lot of doubt in Exeter’s mind.
  23. No we’ll get one in May after April has been nothing but northern blocking
