  1. I wondered where the gales forecast were. They've just arrived here in last 20 mins.
  2. Winter 17/18 reminds me of many 70s Winters. A North/South split. Down here '71-'77 were 'Virtually No Snow' jobs.
  3. Looks good for my landscape gardeners on their third week at chez BB
  4. Latest Meto musings paint a picture of 'as you were' for next few weeks. Cool, wettish...and not a lot else. This Winter is already shaping up to be one of "plain old average" (imby). Move on please, nothing to see here. Hoping for an early warm Spring to arrive before Winter's 'official' end.
  5. Dry, sunny, but cold wind here. Happy for it to remain dry all week as i have garden landscapers in for next 2 weeks. They had a good start last week with it being mainly dry. Be nice if the AH nudges in by the w/e.
  6. Typical UK winter fare next week. North/South split. Windy, cold(ish), rain in South; sleet/snow at times in North with accums on high ground. Nowt to write home about and certainly not "epic". Later in the month? Who knows if real cold and snow to wider areas will happen?
  7. Looking at the projected windflow next week it kinda veers more westerly as it hits the Irish sea near south part of Ireland, so i'm wondering if there's a chance of Bristol Channel streamers setting up on occasions next week.
  8. Temp reached a max of only 4c during daylight hours here today; up to 8c now.
  9. I remember clearly the NYE snow blizzard here in Bristol. I was walking home early hours NYE morning from my girlfriend's house. Biting winds, powder snow falling and blowing across the roads like sand coming off a beach. When i awoke later that morning snow was a foot deep and shaped liked sand dunes, with drifts 2/3 foot high against garden walls. NYE night temps fell to well below freezing. January saw another 3 blizzards (i think) here; not quite as severe as NYE but not far off. I cant remember if February was so memorable as January but it did remain cold right through to March.
  10. "Failed Easterly"?! We have a breezy Easterly wind here in the balmy south west today and it is 3c, but wind chill makes it feel more like 0c in the shade.
  11. Brilliant! Less than 100 words in that paragraph and we have: "most likely.." "may tend..." "perhaps..." "may be..." "likely to..." The only words they left out are "we're not really sure" Who writes these updates?
  12. I usually post in November about the gulf stream, little island next to the Atlantic, blah, blah - usually get a bit of stick for it - but those v simple thoughts manage my expectations almost every Winter. Model output aint worth worrying about past 5/6 days into the future for our little set of islands. And as for trying to predict weeks or months down the line via LRFs, whether using teleconnections or otherwise just forget it.
  13. So is this sequel starring the ECM called "Return of That Ecm"? Or "That ECM 2"?
  14. I like one of the reply tweets: Gotta love the old reliable 360 hr forecasts mets post, only to see it flip countless times till it becomes verified
  15. Battleground Britain - that's my take on later next week.
  16. Popped up to Chipping Sodbury today (near Yate) for those who dont know our area. Thick snow up there still - looks like they did best in my vicinity. A marked difference in thickness levels for sure. Guess the mile or two north again at Old Sodbury/Tormarton at higher level would be even more snow. I reck the NW cold incursions will be a feature of next few weeks - just a gut feeling.
  17. Just walked to our local Tesco express for newspaper and pavements lethal with icy slush. Still have snow cover on grass, cars and roofs of about 1 inch. Messy slushy though so really hope it thaws before rest of Winter gives us biting dry south easterlies with copious amounts of deep drifting powder snow
  18. 3 inches laying when i went to bed just after 1; everything was covered in thick snow and it was still snowing. Got up at 8 this morn and it's a slushy mess. Guess it turned back to rain for a time. Thaw will be complete by 10 i suspect.
