  1. Dry continental air; flakes dont have much moisture so crystals dont bind together to form large flakes....i think
  2. Curry eaten. Ant & Dec on telly. 2L bottle of Blackthorn chilling in fridge
  3. What is latest snow update for Bristol area tonight/tom guys? Are we on the edge or is it really a Devon/Cornwall affair?
  4. We were going to a garden centre and then decided not a good idea to wander around in the cold. It can wait til early next week.
  5. Hi Noggin. No, i meant from East Bristol to the North side of Bristol. Cheers
  6. Wifey decided to turn around. On edge of Almondsbury going home. Turning white on grass and side streets.
  7. It is settling up here near Thornbury; cars coming from other direction covered in snow. By the way i'm not driving
  8. Just heading north on A38 near Thornbury; it is blizzard like. Should we continue to travel? Going near Slimbridge.
  9. Snow and wind picked up here as well. The irony is that it is a stronger wind than the other week. Moderate snow falling now.
  10. V light rain here. Tonite/tom looks best for snow in Cornwall, Devon and S Somerset. V different 'build up' to last time. Then we had a few days of cold and v cold overnight. Yday it was 12c here.
  11. TV forecasts just now on ITV and BeebNews24 looked v underwhelming re snow for here (imby) this weekend.
  12. Heavy rain here for last few hours with temp around 10c. Big contrast to 7/8 days ago, for sure.
  13. Heavy rain. Every last bit of snow will be gone in next few hours here in SG.
  14. South West Winter 17/18: I try to look past most recent memory. I think it is human nature to look back for a very short period of time, like a week. Overall the SW Winter has been pretty much 'average' in my book. Yes, there have been a couple of snow/cold events but other than the last week nowt out of ordinary for Winter. Snow in mid December (one day), snow in latter hours of Boxing Day. And then, the last 7 days. Defo the highlight of our Winter (early Spring!). So i'll focus on the last week. End Feb/v early March - quite remarkable depth of cold. Quickly delivering a Classic SW Approaches LP that smashed into our region. A classic blizzard? Not quite for my locality but not far off. Highlights for me of last week: Waking up Thurs morning and it was already snowing. Thurs afternoon/evening - continuous snow. Temps of -2/3c during day on Wednesday/Thurs/Fri. 6/7 inches level snow of powder variety; drifts in my garden of over a foot in places. Friday - snow falling from lunchtime until 5 early eve. Great top up! Local pub packed to rafters mid afternoon Friday as locals decided "there is nowhere else to go so let's just go to pub!" Epic? Approaching. Winters or Winter events standings: 1st - the benchmark - Winter 78/79 2nd Winter 81/82 3rd Winter 09/10 4th Nov/Dec 10 5th Jan 1987 6th That week in Feb 09 7th 1991 8th 1st/2nd March 2018
  15. Thawing rapidly here. A black slushy mess out on the main road and its side pavements. Still plenty of snow here in our street and garden but amazing how the 6/7 inches just collapses. The drifts of over a foot are fast diminishing. Amazing how the water content comes out. A great week in here. Thanks to all for input, photos, banter, etc. Right the horse racing just started from Lingfield. Fuller thoughts later.
  16. Slow thaw underway here. The snow laying is quickly turning from ace powder to wet stuff. Fog/mist later i suspect.
