  1. Those showers to the west of the central belt behind the main band look like they could deliver a fair bit of snow for someone. Getting heavier again here although temperature is starting to creep up -0.1c/-1.1c.
  2. The heavy band has now passed me and the flakes are much smaller although still moderate snow. There is another heavier band coming in but not sure if it will make it to me. About 2-3cm so far. -0.3c/-1.7c.
  3. It should reach you just about. Actually getting a bit heavier and no issues with lying -0.5c/-2.0c.
  4. What seems clear is that a lot of the forecasts for the next few days are up in the air. There is a chunk of polar vortex sitting to the south west of Greenland spawning a succession of little low pressure areas towards us. However, at the moment pressure remains quite high to our north east in the form of a big cold block. When these lows come up against the block is where we will see the snow chances over the next few days. It does look like the main PV will get its act together later next week and ultimately win the battle with things turning a bit milder but we are long overdue a battleground situation with cold and snow winning out (70's and 80's style weather). After looking through all the model suites this morning my own prediction would be two or three different snow events for different parts of Scotland between today and Wednesday and one bigger snowfall before slightly milder air eventually pushes in at the end of next week. Having said that, given the model unpredictability could really go any way.
  5. We'll soon find out as the radar shows the edge of the front moving close to me now. The BBC forecast there showed the snow graphic over me at 12 while yesterday it was from 6pm.
  6. The last two nights have been my coldest of the winter so far with both getting down to -3.7c. The dewpoint is currently lower just now than yesterday at -5.0c which might be useful if the front reaches me later. I'm quite surprised at how far east the front is already.
  7. The track of the showers should now change direction as the low pushes through.
  8. Sleet for the last hour 2.1c/1.3c but looks like snow on the hills. Lots of opportunities for snow over the next week having looked at the models this morning.
  9. The temperature across the central belt is about 1-2c down on what was forecast - I've only reached a max of 0.3c - so there may be a better chance of a bit of snow for some for a while but given that the upper temps are due to rise as we move towards midnight any snow is likely to turn back to rain.
  10. Now up to 87.5mm of rain in the last 24 hours for me. Rain still persistent and heavy with the wind getting stronger again. I had to go out earlier and lots of back roads now closed.
  11. Some really bad flooding developing on the back roads with most rivers flooding fields. At last check I had 81.2mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Not looking good if this continues.
  12. Happy to see some wet snow lying this morning on cars and grass for the first time this winter, although it was quickly washed away. Overnight, according to most forecasts 2-3 hours of snow is about the best that can be expected for low ground in southern and central areas in the morning before the much milder air moves in from the south west. Currently -0.1c/-0.7c under clear skies.
  13. Temp down to 2.3c and dewpoint at 1.2C. Lots of heavy showers gathering to the west. Decent chance of me seeing some snow over the next couple of hours.
  14. If you look on the radar there is a distinct line of heavy precipitation running south west to north east, about 20 miles north of central belt. Cold enough air for wintry stuff to the north, rain to south. Be interesting to watch its progress.
  15. After lunch the colder upper air should start moving south and may have an affect on the precipitation type for parts of lower ground across more central then southern parts of Scotland. Until then it's rain all the way. Currently 3.8c for me.
  16. Lots of heavy shower activity showing up on the radar out to the west but it looks likely to be mainly rain for low lying areas for now given the current temperatures (4.3c/3.4c for me). As colder air starts to move south over the next 24 hours things start to look more promising for more areas. An interesting period of weather coming up.
  17. Sleet/wet snow shower there. Temp down to 1.5c and dewpoint at 0.7c.
  18. 46.6mm of rain in the last 24 hours for me with the vast majority within a couple of hours earlier this evening. A real autumn or even winter feel tonight with the temperature 5.6c.
  19. Heavy sleet shower just passed through after wet snow showers throughout this afternoon. Should turn back to snow as we go through the night. Currently 2.9c with dewpoint 1.8c. Remarkable weather over the last couple of days for this time of year.
  20. Some heavy hail showers with snow on the hills. Temperature 4.0c and dewpoint 2.0c. .
  21. A light snow shower just passed through there. Temperature down from 4.0c to 2.8c. Dewpoint 0.5c.
  22. My temperature is way off that predicted by the BBC which was 6c for this time. Now down to 3.1c and back to sleet.
  23. A clear demonstration there of the difference a bit of altitude makes. My house is 75 metres asl and when I left it was 3.5c on my weather station which was also the temperature on my car thermometer. It was mainly rain with a little bit of sleet mixed in. I was driving over the Crow Road that goes over the Campsies to Fintry. At the carpark which is approximately 200 metres asl it was heavy sleet or wet snow and was starting to lie a bit on wind facing surfaces and it was 2.0c. As I got to the top of the road which I think is roughly 350 metres asl it was near blizzard conditions with lying snow and only 0.5c. All within 3 miles of my doorstep.
