brillant post just shows how complex our system is so it would be foolish to say artic ice will be gone in 10 20 years. also foolish to dissregard a ice comeback either. more time is needed but at the moment im just wondering how minimum the next couple of solar cycles will be, this will be intresting times because i feel there is more to the gw than meets the eyes could go either way depending on what happens over the next 10 years or so, and nobody knows the answer to this, everything is just a prediction atm. so doom for the arctic not yet although ofcoarse there be a couple that will dissagree. but hey we see a slight fightback this year in regards to arctic ice. and maybe where have record melts again this year, but im sure its possible that it could return in the future.

if a plateau is being shown then cooling has happened surely or is atleast starting to happen.

gwo does this mean global meltdown or stable temps. sorry im noob i just wondered if el nino is going to ruin our chances of another cold winter like last because if it does im going to be truely cheesed of because i dont want this crappy warming, a switch to cooling mode.

ok so its stable so maybe warming is being over stated.

your iceberg and icebergs are ment to be chilled . and your entitled to your opion and i think its just as valid as most on this thread. the whole point is if people say something massive is happening or is going to happen with our planet our home then they need to be correct, but it seems they find something new everday about us and our climate but very rarely does natural variations come into the picture. in somecases it seems its a way of leading you into a false sence of security. reasons maybe money and power.

im guilty of being skeptical of man made gw most of the time. but one thing im not skeptical of is the facts thats winters overall in the last 1 or 2 decades have been in rapid decline and have become milder not just here but in places like canada siberia arctic russia ect ect thease are all places known for being very cold in the past. i have a uncle who has lived in canada for 30 or more years he says theres clear evidence that warming has happened over the last 15 years or so but states that the 80s where really cold, but he has now started to say that the last few winters there have become very harsh again and colder as each year passes, his views are if this where to continue for another couple of years he would then put it down to natural cycles for both warming and any cooling period. i dont think ipcc would even argue that they must add the natural cycles in there longterm trends and most likely do. but its working out wether its natural or man made theres alot riding on the co2 theory in my opion, i just dont know what to think all i do know is warming has happen and it would seem cooling is happening wether this is conected to solar output la nina ect ect then more time is needed and there is more and more evidence coming from both sides, funnest being the birds singing a different tune so they put that down to gw which in my opion is a bloody waist of money, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8062420.stm Delta X-Ray posted the cooling evidence and theres more building up, as my uncle said the last few winters have been harsh if this where to continue but not just in one place, but places known for deep cold then id think maybe rethink the co2 theory, because this is what is soposed to be causing the warming effect. but the most intresting thing i see was the program on snow. and it does seem to me that the uk is not ment to be frozen, or not like 1963 cold every year, so just because snow is not aparent every year and its mild wet and windy then thats not gw thats just normal uk weather patterns. i remember 1980s wow there where some hot summers but following that some cold winters so my thoughts swing me towards a two decade cycle im most likely wrong, but it seems that where now into a cooling period after nearly 2 decades of warming.

so please anyone tell me if el nino is apon us or are we heading into a la nina. do thease two have a big connection with our climate for instance if we where to head into a el nino pattern would this mean that winter like 08/09 less likely. and by the way great debate going on in here

yep i totally agree when i start to see the winters show something like the 80s 70s or 60s i to will be happy. it will prove that our planet can switch to what ever climate it wishes without the aid of man. all i hear about is warming but i can understand why, some people can see it, some people can tells us its happening and where happy to except it because we have not been around in the warmer climate of the past. after all if you have grown up at the end of the maunder and dalton minimum then of coarse cold and snow is normal in winters and you would be used to that type of climate and its worth remembering that we have only been coming out of the cooler periods in the last few decades. just because temps have risen then this does not mean where going to fry this subject does confuse though and so much evidence points in so many direction that its impossible right now to know whats happen. but im sure the sun has the biggest effect and at the moment we can see and the evidence is starting to show that our climate is changing maybe not extreme but in my eyes cooling slowly, what must also be remembered there is a lag time from solar minimums so if where cooling now then imagine how much cooler it could be in 10 years time. but warming has happened ofcoarse whether it be man or natural most are drawn up on theorys so the only thing we can do is protect our planet just incase the man made warming is true, and in anycase its better for us as humans to try to keep our planet clean. but if you ask me if where going to burn up, id say dont be silly noway where cooling, and this could continue then after that warming will start again, then a full blown ice age will happen then the planet will start its cycles all over again and global warming will be back again and again so will ice ages until the end of the earth.

what are the chances of solar activity increasing to say that of a normal cycle ? and am i right in saying a maunder type minimum is now not likely at all in the next 5 to 10 years?

so tell me then is there a way to return the ice to its original state do we need to cut more co2 be honest if this doomsday situation is happening and is going to continue what can we do? im sorry but it all seem like the focus is on massive melt, im very confused is there global cooling happening is the globe still warming it would seem only one direction no arctic sea ice, desert europe, massive hurricaines and lots lots more. i think this subject along with global warming cheeses me off so much i think im going to have to stick with looking out at the sky. perhapes it might be that nobody really understands what is really happening i think who ever bothered with the hype of this global warming needs to be shot. what will be will be.

simply saying if ice extent where to continue to grow in winter then theres more to melt in summer. i dont know to much about the enso and its effects to be honest. just seems cooling has happened wether it continues we will see nice im certain that ice will make a come back and that cooler climbs are ahead. i will also look at shortening my post i must apoligise
