  1. At this juncture in the month and going off the projected synoptics, you would bet on a finishing figure somewhere at or just below the 14 degree mark, however, if we do a see a northerly plunge to end the month a mark more closer to 13.5 - 13.7 range could be on the cards - absolute bottom line I will say is 13.5 with top as it is now. So likely to be another near average CET.

13.9 thats mewhistling.gif and i said warm autumn then cold winter rofl.gif

  2. Hi Foz,

I got 3 bat boxes, I really need at least another 2.

If you have a big tree in your garden (which I don't) then it is recommended that you put 4 boxes on each side of the trunk. Basically one box facing North East South and West. They like to use a box facing a certain direction at particular times of the year.

If you have not got a big tree. Then place at a hight no lower than 5metres on the sides of your house. I am semi detached so only have 3 sides, currently 2 boxes on a South facing wall & 1 on a East facing wall. The other place I want to fit one to is on the front of my house which faces in a North Westerly direction.

The bigger the better I feel for bat boxes, so if they do take up residence, then they have the room to breed.

Bat boxes should only be made out of natural wood and not varnished.

hi steveb, we have a detached and one wall is north/northwest field side with big tree in it. So i am going to set to work on 2 boxes on that wall.

    will keep you posted.

    cheers FF

  4. Hi all,

There have been subtle changes for many years and the effects of this are being felt accross western Europe.

The June/July event seems to be quite important and alot more than a subtle change. It would be great to see more of these stumbling temporary halts to see if there is to become a pattern.

Some time ago articles were postd here about likely changes

    Snow lovers will love it

For more info read posts in the debate on the effects

  7. Well, time for an update after a period of inactivity!

I was up Ben Nevis and surrounding hills on Saturday with a couple of fellow chionophiles, and am pleased to report a good covering of snow still remaining in Observatory Gully and a sizeable patch on Aonach Beag. A reasonable amount still on Aonach Mor, but this won't last into October in my opinion.

Firstly, Observatory Gully still holding several patches, the longest of which is 85m long, and deep. Easily as deep as last year, as this photograph will show. In addition to this main one, several higher-up ones in Gardyloo Gully are substantial, and a good photograph of them is here.

Aonach Beag's snow is slightly shorter and less massive than last year, but still has a good 70m length.

Aonach Mor's protalus rampart snow is the largest on that hill, but is seriously smaller than 2007 and a fair bit smaller than 2008. It made it by the skin of its teeth last year, but I doubt very much whether it will this year. However, a good picture of it is here.

Some other pictures from that trip are here: http://www.flickr.co...57622122803506/

If I were a betting man, I'd say that Aonach Beag and at least one of Nevis's patches will survive this year. However, lasting snow is still a fair bit off. As usual, fingers are crossed.

    Hi Firefly, some great pictures

How deep do you think some of that was?cheers ff
