  1. One day! Ah well - only mid June so plenty of time for some of us to experience our first thunderstorm of Summer 2020! Hopefully the next risk day will be the one! Tomorrow will be a lovely day to enjoy the Summer solstice for many of us - high teens/low twenties and plenty of sunshine. Have a good weekend everyone!
  2. Heavy rain and not a hint of thunder and lightning anywhere in Scotland. (At the time of this post)
  3. Just sitting on top of the hill at the moment - Met Office have stuck the thunderstorm symbol on for 18:00...any chance I had is now gone! Looking North: Looking South: We shall see what happens later!
  4. Ended up with some colourful lenticular clouds last night. Third thunderstorm warning this Summer from the Met Office. (Previously two gave me about three minutes of drizzle overhead ) Should kick off mid/late afternoon - Central/North West Scotland most at risk it seems! Hopefully a few of us see a bit of action! All the best everyone!
  5. Lovely day with plenty of sunshine and a high of 21C. Nice wee sky at the moment: Convective weather latest for tomorrow: Convective Weather WWW.CONVECTIVEWEATHER.CO.UK Forecasting thunderstorms and severe convective weather across the British Isles and Ireland for up to the next 5 days. A few funnel clouds possible over Argyll and Ayrshire mentioned in the above. Met Office: Heavy showers quite widespread tomorrow compared to the previous few days - temperature expected here 18/19C and sun should be shining by early afternoon. We go again... Edit: @Stormeh agreed! I would love a bit of this overhead! (Funnel cloud @Ross B posted about the other day)
  6. I have quite enjoyed looking at all the haar pictures over the last few days - makes for quite a peaceful/calming scene! (Also enjoyed looking at @CatchMyDrift pegs and @Northernlights strawberries) Two questions...why is it called Haar and is it just a NE/E/SE thing in Summer? Over in the West it’s simply named fog all year round. One of those things I have always thought about but never asked! Edit: @Kirkcaldy Weather cheers for that! I should have just searched it really! Cool story about the thunderstorm though - that would indeed be very surreal but also quite an event to experience!
  7. Evening all The weather has been that good recently I have not even bothered looking at the models for the mid/long term! Days on end now of temperatures between 20 to 23C - lovely early Summer weather! Just seen the ECM: Not great for up here but I’ll take a wee unsettled period for a while - definitely a theme of unsettled/settled/unsettled/settled emerging ( @CreweCold mentioned this recently) Unsettled hasn’t been that bad so far though this Summer. Tell you what this record (highest temperature in the UK so far this year) will be under threat next Wednesday/Thursday if those charts become reality! Two pictures below I have taken during the current warm spell - this is what Summer is all about for me...warm/sunny convective days and colourful sunsets during the long Summer nights. All the best to you all and have a good night! Cheers.
  8. Good stuff! I’m off for a look @Ross B - would love to see a funnel cloud! I remember @howham saw one last Summer! Can you see anything from Dumfries @SW Saltire - nice storm East of you.
  9. Yes those two cells look decent - Kilmarnock area the better one! Wonder if we will see others start to explode - keep an eye out South of EK/Eaglesham ect ect! Edit: Losing intensity now - classic pulse thunderstorm. Ayrshire/Dumfries and Galloway again with the storms today! @Ross B Any pictures from the Kilmarnock storm? (Think you said before you had family down there)
  10. Well here we go again... First up...the usual spot. Good luck to all hoping for a thunderstorm - sun is out here and currently 16C. (20/21C expected later) Let’s see how today goes!
  11. You have to laugh...thunder and lightning has been recorded since 02:00 right up until the last hour... Here are my personal favourites which I managed to sleep through between 03:45 and 04:00! (Strikes within seven to ten miles of my location at times - clear view of all this from a eight minutes drive down the road. ) Hopefully someone seen the Firth of Clyde light up! Warming up again later with the risk of a thunderstorm for a few of us.
  12. I blame the Met Office! At least it was a convective day! (Just not overhead) Sunset was decent. This sums it up.,. Convective weather has a slight risk tomorrow for the usual areas. Someone might get a thunderstorm during the early hours - more likely now though is drizzle/rain! Let’s see what tomorrow brings!
  13. Really getting used to popping in here and seeing incredible pictures/videos - great spell of daily storms for many areas. (Or should that be same areas!? ) Started off promising up here early afternoon - but it just never got going overhead. Roughly two hundred lightning strikes up here in Scotland today...compared to the thousands in England! All the best everyone! Hopefully I’ll be joining in with the lightning pictures/videos soon!
  14. @Stormeh That’s us cursed now - Met Office warning, thunderstorm symbol and I’m sure I was getting the middle finger from this... All joking aside - lots of towers have been going up and then straight back down again! Last half hour has started to look more promising though. 21C now - perfect sunbathing weather while watching the sky/radar!
  15. Work finished at 14:00 when I looked out the window... Just down at the Bay - looking good West to East - current temperature 20C. Heading up an exposed 100 meters hill now for a better view - could be a good day ahead for many of us! Great stuff down there at the moment!
  16. Looking much better than last night! Just had a quick browse across the models - working from home until 16:00 today so can’t go out until then! (Hopefully nothing arrives until after then!) Met Office kicks off with some potent cells around 14:00 - spreading further North and West by 16:00. We are definitely in the mix - period between 01:00 and 04:00 needs to be watched also - could be overnight thunderstorms or a wet mess! Just waiting on the Met Office either issuing a warning or sticking the thunderstorm symbol on the APP automated forecast...then I will 100% know nothing is going to happen! Crud is clearing here - currently 17C...expecting 22/23C later. Good luck everyone!
  17. @Kirkcaldy Weather Estofex has you in the 15% chance of lightning box tomorrow! 50% chance for parts of Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway. (Borders on the edge) What do you think? If that haar/cloud would sod off you could easily hit the high teens/low twenties tomorrow so who knows - more likely it will be about 14C though. Convective weather has just issued this: Most interesting part relating to Scotland... Showers and thunderstorms could persist until late evening in some areas, but will generally become weaker as nocturnal cooling of the boundary layer occurs later in the day. However, some elevated shower and thunderstorm activity may persist, or actually increase, across SW Scotland, the Irish Sea and into eastern Ireland through Tuesday night into early Wednesday as the aforementioned shortwave over England/Wales swings westwards through the night. Could be a great day and overnight period tomorrow for storms in the SW. Edit: @Kirkcaldy Weather grim stuff below - hopefully at the end of the week/weekend things improve for you and the others stuck under that rubbish.
  18. Sunshine here today for about twenty minutes - high of 20C and muggy. Good stuff @SW Saltire Tomorrow has more of the same! Parts of Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Borders and Highlands most at risk. Latest Euro4 for tomorrow: Met Office snapshot: (13;00, 16:00 and 19:00 for rough guidance) I bet Wednesday has exactly the same areas at risk! (Not even going to look tonight ) I need to do some actual work tomorrow so best of luck to all the storm lovers in the areas above! Very jealous! June 2019 delivered more widespread storms - hopefully it’s the same come the end of this June!
  19. Could be worse Matt - think June 2019! Surely June 2020 will be better?
  20. Aye - lightning seems to have died off now in that area. Good stuff North of Dumfries now! @shuggee if my geography is correct you may see something pop up within the next hour! @rossco89 Shame about the cloud! Think you were just a bit too far NW for the good stuff earlier. Good day for storms down there - as @Ross B said hopefully a bit more widespread for the rest of us tomorrow/Wednesday. (Looks good for the Southern Uplands tomorrow) Nice wee cell in the far SW ongoing:
  21. Really going nuts now - blowing up all over the place. @rossco89 this must be overhead or extremely close - can you see/hear anything? @Stormeh You should have saved that Ayrshire beach trip for today! Edit: South Lanarkshire might join in the fun shortly!
  22. Quality stuff in NW England - you love to see it! Enjoy! (Not jealous are all )
  23. I am keeping an eye on those last charts! Heading out later for a walk to see if I can see/get under anything - bit too far North West here though so doubt it. Ayrshire (new storm capital of Scotland 2020) has kicked off again - almost the exact same area as yesterday. Met Office also has cells breaking out across many parts of the SW later. @SW Saltire if you head W/NW (from Dumfries) you will probably see some action. Meanwhile up here cloud is starting to break up - currently 19C and humid. Lovely up in Orkney and Shetland...warm and plenty of sunshine. @Norrance Not so lovely in Dundee! 12/13C high with drizzle/rain/fog/haar. Cracking storm down there - wish we had a member in here who lived there! Great to see the pictures. It is hard working from home when the radar is lively - if only it was Winter...guaranteed no excitement then! Just bog standard rain and wind nowadays!
  24. Forty five pages to catch up on since my last visit in here...looking forward to seeing all the pictures/videos! Got a supercell brewing to my North West at the moment...think a tornado warning will be issued shortly. Expecting a strong tornado from this within the next hour...EF3 or above.
  25. Glorious out there now - current temperature of 22C. Couple of nice cells ongoing at the moment. (Highlands and SW - lightning showing up on both) Bubbling up over the hills/mountains of the Cowal Peninsula.
