Yes, latest runs all look very poor for anyone seeking a late taste of Winter.
Totally agree with CC, 3 months of utter rubbish.
Our friends in parts of England/Wales would be thinking the same had those Atlantic fronts not come up against the very cold Continental air.
It really has been a dire Winter though if you look back throughout December and January.
I expect a March of 2 halves, early spring warmth and then a wintry shock for all...
-
Well nothing wintry of note for the next 2 weeks at least.
Lots of rain and wind about for the working week and then bog standard early spring weather.
When does everyone start getting excited about Winter?
1st November is my start date for that!
-
By far in Torrance this is not the worst winter that I've seen! But these pointless sleet, snow showers do annoy me a bit and it's more like the type of snow you get in early May. However with Spring things can change and usually a poor winter is followed by a good Spring for snow (although I wouldn't say that winter has been poor).
In my Spring forecast - expect to get something out of northerly outbreaks during March.
I do hope you are right.
The outlook looks a bit pants at the moment though.
Hopefully Winter 2012/2013 delivers for us all.
-
Had hail/sleet/snow and then rain for the past 10 minutes. Now a clear blue sky!
Total non event for here!
Ahhhhhhhh! I have hated every minute of this Winter! Totally dire.
Hope everyone who is getting the snow is enjoying it!
-
Hee-haw here apart from a 3 minute hail shower.
Oh how I wish I lived in the Highlands.
-
Fantastic video forecast yet again Lewis!
You should be snapped up by a weather website to produce more on a regular basis!
Great to see again the ones from December 2010 and January 2011! (Takes me back to that amazing Greenland high winter spell!)
Well done again.
Great thread this one, lots of talented model observers. Harsh Climate is another one I respect and a few others.

Travelling to Leeds on Friday morning by car.
Is it in the firing line 100%?
I would appreciate the thoughts of Storm Force Lewis especially as his video forecasts are superb.
Hopefully he does one for the upcoming snow event!
-
Yes, I live just down the road from Glasgow and I can assure you it has not been the snowiest.
6 days with snow falling, 1 day of which had prolonged snow showers for a good few hours.
Pretty much bog standard affair for Glasgow.
-
If the UKMO/GFS 12z 's are anything to go by it could be a long time before we see any lowland snow again.
I am now looking forward to Winter 2012/13!
Let's hope it won't be a repeat of this one! (This has been a truly abysmal winter)
-
Teaming down with rain here, as expected!
-
Just watched the weather forecast on BBC News channel and it was quite a disappointing forecast for Scotland. Hope this improves in the later forecasts today taking into account the latest data.
Yes, I do admire the optimism in here.
However, this will be a non event for Scotland. (Borders might catch something decent)
Wet & Windy for 95% of lowland Scotland then milder for a good few days afterwards.
-
Yes, it just sums up the Scottish Winter so far. Dull and depressing!
We will have to watch on as parts of England get buried for about 18-24 hours.
It is time for the snow to be shared around the UK, we always hog most of it!
So all the best to our friends down south, enjoy what will be a great event!
None of this 20 minute snow showers nonsense I have become used to this Winter, SO FAR! :-)
-
What has become of Winter? Totally dismal so far.
2 days with snow showers in the last 11 months.
Now here we are watching a dusting fall in a few areas which will have totally gone by midday tomorrow thanks to rain and temps of 8 degrees.
I really hope February/March pulls something out the bag.
-
I see nothing more than wet, windy, average winter weather for the rest of this month. I do hope you are right though.
-
Well some great weather to look forward to next week, a wintry march bonus as i like to say!
At + 78 this is a great chart http://gfs.netweather.tv/gfs.20090227/12/78/h500slp.png and almost in to the reliable timeframe!
And this at + 108 is just fantastic http://gfs.netweather.tv/gfs.20090227/12/108/h500slp.png
Something for everyone to enjoy, although i would not like to be working outdoors.

Tuesday night into Wednesday morning looking good for the white stuff particularly over higher ground in the north and west. Central belt of Scotland in line to.
GFS definetly trending towards METO with the low further north and west.
Totally agree my friend, i had taken 10 days off model watching. But what a great time to return! Looking very wintry around my area from + 75 to + 123 hours. Although throughout next week anywhere is at risk of thunder, snow, hail and maybe the odd waterspout or two off the coast! Fantastic, something to look forward to at last! I have barely seen any sunshine recently.
-
A bit of a joke that the metoffice warning covers my area, i have had 90 mins of very light snow flurries.....10 minutes of moderate snowfall........which turned to sleet and now its raining........
And with that it is now washing away my snowcover which has been with me since Feb 2nd, lucky people up north and in the east!
Just turned to very light snow here again, aviemore is getting pasted i hear.
-
I have saw about 20 small fine flakes so far this morning........
-
Metoffice update, Concerned by these. I thought we may get sleet. But rain?
Weather forecast: Strathclyde

This Evening and Tonight:
A few wintry showers this evening and early tonight, mainly rain on low ground, snow higher ground inland, local slight falls. Turning dry overnight with long clear spells leading to sharp frost and risk of ice. Minimum temperature -5 °C.
Better in the east: Central, Tayside & Fife

This Evening and Tonight:
A few snow showers will spread from the west this evening and early tonight perhaps giving slight falls in places. Turning mainly dry and clear again overnight with sharp frost and risk of ice. Minimum temperature -5 °C.
Most snow will fall in the northwest highlands.
-
Quite a remarkable change from 12 hours ago with regards to the feature moving down from the northwest later. Latest charts/metoffice/gfs ect have it completely missing Glasgow and surrounding places. The further east you are the better, Edinburgh in the firing line for some heavy snow. West Central Scotland expect sleet for a while.
-
Snow anyone?
-
The NMM model is very interesting with tomorrows feature, it has it as a south west event only - just passing to the south of Glagsow and giving ayrshire a good dump of snow! A quick 2 hour event but with precipitation rates of up to 8cm per hour i won't complain!
I am in shock, 4 hours ago this feature was much further north. It is now showing as missing glasgow all together. Alot of snow for Ayr ( 10 miles east of too) if the track stays the same. I am speechless.
-
The charts Ross posted earlier regarding snowfall tomorrow night is going to happen, for Glasgow, my area and others. Its a repeat performance of last night. There will be 3-5cm from this, especially as the snow looks to be falling at moderate levels for about 4 or 5 hours. Also the front of the system will come into glasgow after sunset so this will help the snow settle on the ground quicker. Midnight is when you would expect the heaviest snow falling, althought anytime from 10pm onwards looks good for that also. I fully expect a metoffice warning for 5cm for strathclyde and other parts to be posted on there website for 17.00pm tomorrow. <_<
