  1. I've got to travel from Penistone to a client's in Worsborough tomorrow morning, by bus. I've a funny feeling I won't be making it.... Currently it's 0.6C with a dew of -1C. Bring on the snow
  2. Currently, it's 1C out, with a dew of -0.9C around here, so it's cold enough for snow for us. as for the cold moving in, not sure, haven't really followed developments for a number of days as I've been decorating if you don't have a weather station, you could do what I've done and found a local station (just about quarter of a mile away from me) on wunderground.com to keep tabs on your local conditions
  3. last nights ppn looks like it's looping back on itself ready to do a 180 and come back shame it's spinning off out to the north-east towards norway.....
  4. Looks like the whole main band missed us by about 20 miles Saturday into Sunday looks tasty though
  5. another one for the "snowing here" posts surfaces that aren't concrete, tarmac or mud are developing a covering already....
  6. From here I can see that the banks that are usually 2 to 3 feet above the river level are almost being breached. Luckily, we're far enough up the valley to not be affected if they do.
  7. Temps have risen a degree in the last 1.5 hours. Current +1C dew point -.1C Could do without anymore snow for now, Thursday panicked a number of carers and 2 even walked off the job!
  8. We've a Vauxhall Mokka 4x4. even though it's a Vauxhall, it's never failed us when getting to calls. except when we got stuck in a 6ft drift just up the back of Oxspring a couple of years ago (during the beast from the east). Luckily a couple of passing Range Rovers spotted us and towed us out
  9. I'll take that. As you said, it was memorable yesterday. wash it away, a brief warming then back into an even colder, snowier reload (wishful thinking at it's best )
  10. I know where you are! I come past regularly on the bus, on my way to a clients. In fact ,I was on my way to him yesterday, but the driver was turning back at the medical centre, but I needed to be at the far end of the route
  11. good morning all. current conditions attached. lovely skies this morning - sunny and blue, with a pink layer. Just been out to defrost the car. The snow wasn't crunchy as many have noted, but the surfaces that didn't have snow were very icy. The electric mirrors on the car had frozen closed in and there was an ice layer on the inside of the car windows as well as outside There's a warehouse just across the back here, their electric gate had frozen shut so none of the workers could get in stay safe if venturing out today
  12. And just like that *poof* the stalled band dissipates within about 45 mins All stopped and it's very foggy now. This is a pic from our camera. Normally we can't see anything at night, just the odd car coming around with headlights (the camera is in a bedroom window and the IR reflects off the glass and renders the camera useless). It's amazing how little light it takes to reflect off the snow and act like a natural night vision
  13. Temp: -0.1 Dew: -0.3 Had approx. 16cm (measured on top of wheelie bin) of snow. just been out to a clients that was up a back lane and the other carers couldn't get to (we have 4x4) and the treads of the tracks we left on the back driveway of our house were covered again by the light snow that's falling. what an ~+*awesome*+~ day
  14. Just got in from making an aborted attempt at getting to a client's in Worsborough from Penistone. All Stagecoach bus services in Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster have been suspended from 11:15am Got to thank our driver, an absolute star, got us into Penistone and just had to walk the last few miles home Here's a few pics of the journey 20210114_102552.mp4 20210114_103602.mp4
  15. Even Barnsley Interchange isn't immune to it. Of all the places, I'd have though this would be kept clear
  16. Just on a bus, we're making our way slowly to Barnsley. I'm questioning now whether I've made the right decision trying to get to work (I'm a carer, so that is a yes obviously!) Going to be interesting trying to get home though
  17. just done an old fashioned "stick your head outside" forecast. It's heavy ice pellets outside at the moment. I can see it getting dicey on the roads pretty quickly
