strikes/min 60+ for Northern England only (Derby/Nottingham upwards)
looks like main cells are one just leaving Leeds, one about to hit Chesterfield (due south of) and one over Gainsborough
another cell over heading over Buxton
it's certainly kicking off
-
Leeds are getting quite a bit of a pounding from one atm according to the live data!
-
The forecast has pushed the storms back from 4pm to 6pm.
I'm assuming any possible storms will be convective in nature and will just spring up from nowhere?
-
I really need a new weather station. I'm lost without one. Mine broke a while ago, so I can't report temps or anything
Currently raining, hoping to see a bit of sun before the storms start. forecast is 72% chance around here from 4pm onwards. looks like I'll be watching the real time data on lightningmaps as well as the rain radar
-
please hold on to some heat and sun for me, this northern monkey is invading the IOW come next Sunday!
-
been a bit cloudy and miserable this morning, although still not cold.
The sun has broken through in the last half hour now though and we have some sunshine
-
can't believe how the day turned out after the lovely blue sky of this morning.
no wonder we Brits like talking about the weather!

Nope, I keep looking in a nd posting if there's anything noteworthy going on
Very cloudy this morning here with very bubbly, almost mammatus type formation.
the rain is playing silly games with me - skirting my location.
not sure whether I should put my washing out, as it's supposed to stay dry, but looking at the radar, I'm not so sure :)

so it's looking like a decent week, maybe even 2 for at least the south and east, rest of the country too possibly.
my fear is it peaks too soon, I'm off to IOW on BH weekend for a few weeks and could do with a bit of nice weather for a change

In rather pessimistic mode this evening, sometimes I get a hunch about the general way things are going and this evening I'm afraid its a woeful one for any warm sustained settled conditions. There is a fair stalemate pattern taking shape, by this stage in the summer the northern hemisphere is firmly in its base summer state and it takes some shifting to alter the general pattern, just like late January when the winter pattern is often firmly entrenched.
With this in mind, I wouldn't be surprised to see a pattern change just in time for the end of the school holidays and we welcome September with the usual high pressure fest, no surprise at all - but all far far too late.
I'll take that - but as I don't have kids, I'm probably on my own
Also, on my way to the Isle of Wight on BH weekend for 2 weeks, so if that's the case so be it
I did say I'd booked the weather in advance earlier in the thread :)
-
The weather can do what it wants, as long as it remembers the booking I made ages ago for good weather from BH weekend at the end of August for 2 weeks
Seriously though. It's not been absolutely terrible - I've managed to get my washing out most days, which is always a good thing. the wind over the last few days has really dry it quickly!
-
I'd say the large extremely heavy cell is about 5 miles too far north on he radar - it shold be missing us, but we've had 7 flash+bangs and extremely heavy rain right now!!

goes to invalid page
that's peculiar I post it on here and click the link and it's invalid, but paste into my browser bar and it works fine!
very strange

What's the thing with the white circles round the dots on the first picture?
check this out and all will be revealed
-
tbh, it looks like the bands are fizzling out a bit. the strike rate has dropped to less than 30 pm, they were at over 100 when over Birmingham!
-
What's the situation in Barnsley? Will it have woke my Mother up yet?
Give it half hour and it will do
just had our first heavy downpour and 1 or 2 rumbles. nothing too bad.......yet
-
just started raining here.....
-
I'm north of sheffield, and there's a misty murkiness to the whole place atm.,
I can see flashes regularly though.no thunder as yet
