  1. I used to do the very same thing! Well, when I used to have a horizon I could actually see anyway...
  2. Thing is its summer not autumn yet! Cold lingered well into June so don't need it infesting August too! I always find the cold in our house annoying as the place is terrible when its anything but nice & warm (i.e. at least 13-14c mins and >21-22c days). Like I say condensation on everything, temperatures falling ever so fast and then it struggles to warm up in anything but very sunny mornings (except when sun is too low). Funny as soon as I set off for work it was fine - clear blue skies and feels very nice in the sun. I wrote the above at home and couldn't see said blue skies for condensation and everything in the house has a cold feel to it. The sun is now up too late to strike the house until after i've gone so it hasn't lost that early morning chill and with her moaning about being cold last night it makes for a grumpy combo! Hopefully this clear sky lasts till at least noon then it should charge the place up with warmth. Then it can cloud up this afternoon to keep warmth in this evening. Min of 17c tonight and back to 22c tomorrow - much much better!
  3. Ruddy freezing this morning! 10.1c outside low, skylights covered in condensation, she was cold in bed so struggled to sleep, house fell to (and still is) 18.2c and this morning its only 12.7c outside which is right on the 'do I need a fleece' borderline. As for peppers/tomatoes - they'll stop growing at these dreadful low temperatures. Come on weather sort it out - far far far too cold for this time of year!
  4. Can easily burn in both April & August! March & Sept much less so.
  5. Comfy in my office even with windows open (23c) as it always stays warm in here until it goes properly cold out. Home a different story of course. <19c this morning now just over 20c and falling. Hopefully doing dinner will warm it a little as I'm loathed to have to put the fire on yet!
  6. Glad to see it warming up after today. Cool & mostly cloudy today - very unexciting naffness. But in contrast, annoying that the weekend is looking cooler/wetter again with the warm up coming back in the working week. Lets hope any warm up peaks over bank hol weekend instead of waiting for the return to work!
  7. 11c here - far too cool for my (& my peppers!) liking.
  8. Lets hope so! And hope it rolls on as long as possible into September too.
  9. Definitely by late Jan I'm sick to death of winter. The increase in light is frustratingly slow... then comes Feb & March where temperatures are frustratingly slow in rising. Of course going the other way you're dragging me kicking and screaming! Although by October that first chill is nice before the reality of the grim new situation becomes embedded by November...
  10. It is nice today for sure - and yesterday. Fair deal of sunshine with some cloudy periods and temps maxing around 21c. Good for being out during the day to, jogging or working but just not warm enough for evenings for sitting. What I'd call great for May or September but not quite what you want in high summer. I'd be fine without heat but need it to be about 3c up across the board so 24-25c max and 15-16c min. Then it'd suit heat hates & warmth lovers equally. Either way, vast improvement on most of the last 6 summers!
  11. Yeah packed beach ain't no fun is it. Secluded coast sounds much better! Although not today as its too cloudy & chilly. Why must the weekend be cloudy...
  12. I find myself torn between November & January for worst months. In November you've been shocked into it by the clock move but christmas is coming and people are generally happier. There's more going on and the dark/cold seems a novelty after summer with snow to maybe look forward to. But on the flipside you know you've got ruddy months of it to go yet and its so damn awful on the roads - very much worst month of year for the commute I find. In January you know its getting lighter at last and spring is coming but no one has any money, nothings going on and people are bit fed up with the dark/cold by then. Isn't 22nd Jan meant to be the most depressing day of the year? Can see why - new year optimism tends to fade as you realise spring is a long way off still, pay day can't come soon enough and the xmas glow has long faded...
  13. Daytime today was nice but we went for a quick pint about 6pm and rapidly chilled in the pub garden as did others as its breezy and not that warm. Nice blue skies but definite fresh feel to it. Still the 'daytime takes all' weather is ok at weekends as you actually get chance to enjoy it!
  14. If you were to do a survey of favourite times of year with the great British public I wonder which would come out tops? I think reckon you might end up with a fairly well spread result with spring, summer, autumn & christmas faring well. I think the only period of time that seems universally disliked by many is January & February. And yes I know many on here like Jan for its snow potential but I for sure don't know anyone in real life that does (unlike for all the other times of year).
  15. Feb is darker than Sept or some parts of Oct! Kinda agree with TWS - I do like our seasonal light extremes but the winter bit during the working week is pretty grim. The whole not seeing your house in daylight from 3:30pm Sunday to whenever you get up on next Saturday morning is very depressing. Not sure about limiting summer daylength though - sure wouldn't want to loose any of the evening light although pre-6am is next to useless for most of us so that can go... And yes 5c & dull/drizzly constitutes around 60% of the winter period and is the prime reason why I can't enjoy winter over other seasons. Sure those 2-3 days of snow is fun (well before it turns to slush/ice) and those odd sunny ice days are good too - but the other (on average) 8-9 weeks of it?! At least average summer weather is pleasant even if it isn't exciting nor especially warm.
  16. Rather it were on a Sunday so I don't have to go to work in it and just play in it instead! Only lost it 4 months ago you know... but probably another 4 months to go before much chance of it again so sadly/gladly you're only half way!
  17. Yes my 15 mins bike ride is lovely this time of year - an absolute pleasure during July it really was. A cold damp January Monday morning is a whole different animal!
  18. You're right it has been decent but do remember not everywhere has been as sunny & warm as Bournemouth... Large parts of June were affected either by North Sea low cloud or by NEly winds making it feel distinctly chilly. Dry yes (well apart from my wedding weekend!) but warm definitely not for eastern areas. July was a superb month in general although again low cloud did come to spoil the party from time to time. August so far has been pretty good too although gone a bit chilly these past few days and certainly more cloud than in July. Agree though its been a good summer with several weeks spent in shorts which I've not done since 2006. Today too would be a shorts day (24.3c) but I didn't go for that as it was very cool this morning and other days this week have been fairly cool.
  19. Clouded up here too - sunny first thing till about 10am then hour of cloud, then sun till about 1-1:30 now totally overcast. If we must have cloud then needs to come at night to keep warmth in and then sun in the day! Now 24c on the nose.
  20. Today has turned out very nice. Almost at 24c so into warm territory as it should be. Plenty of sunshine too - happy with days like this for sure. Just need to loose the night chills and we're back to summer!
  21. It's still summer no matter what the weather does until Sept 1st. However of course it can feel like spring or indeed autumn during summer (winter less likely however!) although I wouldn't call this week autumn feeling just yet - at least during the day anyway. The cool nights do feel more September like though but autumnal it does not yet quite feel (gladly).
  22. It's sunny and warming up fast I'll give you that... Need to loose this night chill however - far too early.
  23. Clear skies here too today but 11.2c night makes it feel far from summary in evenings/mornings. It was predicted (by BBC) to fall to 13c last night which would be ok... 11c though is more September than August! Hopefully we hit a higher max today with 23c predicted which is very nice indeed. 16c predicted for tonight - much better.
  24. Although in winter that's 0815 to 1540 (i.e. all daylight hours) but in summer something like 0430-0600 and 2000-2130 so is more apparent in the winter half of the year.
  25. Very much know what you're talking about there! It was nice today in the end - just needs to be 3c higher across the 24 hour period and it'd feel nicely summary so 14c min to 24c max instead of 11/21c.
