  1. 'I understand your frustrations, i really do! Storms have been rare here aswell although this past week we have seen 4 thunder days in the last 6 days which is pretty decent for this location' Its rubbish here in Darlington, the sky is more angry than an angry thing, nothing to report apart from a sharp shower at 2pm timed perfectly between car and office  . At least I saw (and got stuck) in a 'humdinger' just north of Morpeth at around 18.00 yesterday coming back from a jaunt to Northumberland. Two pathetic ministorms in Darlington in 2009 might have removed me from the NSC for this year but only just!
  2. Loads of convection around, but sun shining most of the morning. Storm shields up around here
  3. Very dark here, raining, only one loud crack of thunder so far
  4. It was interesting to watch these cells from Darlington as they built somewhere over the top end of North Yorkshire then moved up the east side of the Pennines. It was hoofing it down with rain on the A66 near Bowes but places like Richmond stayed totally dry, as it did here all day. The last cell to move north past here was at 8pm, looking into the Vale of York it was blue skies after that. I gather NW Durham got a bit of a pasting during the storm, gardens washed away, roads closed etc
  5. OAT now up to 22°c, very hazy/clouding over to south of town looking into North Yorks, classic '2 sunny days and a thunderstorm' scenario?
  6. Another lovely morning after an uncomfortable night on bed B) 18.8°C at 08.20, cloud bubbling up, no doubt I'll get soggy later
  7. If I was still a member of this club I would be so hacked off after seeing cell after cell wanging up the lower Pennines and missing Darlington by some 15 - 20 miles. All I got out of it yesterday was a few distant rumbles
  8. Big storm to the NW of Darlington, missed here altogether, probably further away than it looks, 20-30 miles away, upper Wear Valley and NW Durham getting a pasting. Its full sun here, been outside to view the massive cells, distant thunder audible. Now back at 28°C here, it peaked at 29.1 at 14.30 according to our tech boys
  9. Rain started and thunder audible, cant hear it myself from back of office LOL! I'm off outside to see if any lightning about
  10. Now 28°C, very sunny over town, warm breeze sprung up in last hour, big cauliflowers to SW, W and NW
  11. I wonder if thats the one I first saw from here, its about 40 miles NW, we have big cauliflowers over the Pennines, the same ones that can be seen from Lancashire?
  12. Now 25.5°C, looks like fun might be had to the west of here, convection building, very hazy to S/SE of town looking into North Yorks, cant see whats happening on the hills. Very sunny here in town, light high cloud :o
  13. Towers building to W/NW of Darlington, they look some miles away (Teesdale?) one has a lovely anvil top, still very sunny and warm here :o
  14. A lovely morning, the best for ages, 22.2°C ten minutes ago, very warm in the sun. a bit fo high cloud but whos complaining?
  15. Sun now burnt off most of the cloud, temp now 23.2°C, best day since last Wednesday now! Still a slight onshore breeze which no doubt will return us to planet gloom later this evening
  16. I'm beginning to wonder if we will ever see a sunny day again here!
  17. Forgot to mention its 16.3°C, full dull have a nice day!
  18. The decrease of thunderstorm activity has been noted by the Isle of Wight weather site since 2007, see http://www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/live_storm_data.htm the number of record strike days has tailed off since 2006 with only one day of note since then in June 2007. When I first looked at this site back in 2005 Lincolnshire and North Norfolk used to get regular pastings; even once high activity locations like Brittany are getting nothing these days
  19. Heatwave? Hot? Are we talking the same country here? Two hours of sun since Thursday. hasnt reached 20C maybe apart from that two hours. Torrential rain over the weekend. More like June 2007 up here. Oh! Its going to be 'nice' in London. That speaks for all of us apparently.
  20. Still hazy here, breezy, temp now a comfortable 21.7°C
  21. Sun really struggling to burn through, looked OK at 11-30, now dullish again, wind is a bit pesky too. Temp was 18.3°C 30 mins ago, might reach 20+ if the cloud burns off
  22. I'm surprised that thunder is such a rare event in Durham just 20 miles north of here, in Darlington we've had a couple of decent (if short) storms this last few weeks, including seeing a 'new underpants required' CG just as I opened the curtains :o It looked ripe for a cracker yesterday evening, a massive 'cauliflower' blew up with a very dark base, then disappeared as quick as it arrived
  23. Saturday July 1st 1995 was a dull grey day, I recall it well as I was out photographing a special train in the York and Harrogate areas and it was so dark at 5pm I couldnt believe it! It remained dry though. Of course, by August things had recovered enough for my first serious sunburn for some time Mark
  24. Convection to just south of Darlington now over North Yorks and closing in, my other 'alf reporting rumbles from home via txts could this be the first home brew storm from the Vale of York to hit Darlington in yonks? sun now gone in and its getting very grey out there over Darlington, clear blue sky receding north Mark H
  25. After cloudless skies at 7am, cloud now building, sunny spells, quite breezy, current 13.5°C. :o ) Mark H
