  1. Alive and kicking. Nice to know some care. Just crap weather, so back tae politics stuff. Sporadic snaw symbols on my MetO forecast the morn, so interest in weather returns. 3.8 C here and dreich.
  2. Well, safely back. Flight had a fair bit of turbulence take off and landing, but nothing to make your hair stand on end. Radio was talking about snow for higher areas from the storm tail; first highland Scotland, then moving South into uplands of N. England? EDIT. Guess meaning this sort of thing:
  3. Will be boarding my plane out of Stavanger soon. Rather, erm, windy oot. Going to be an interesting take off.
  4. My flight was in one of this type, so fairly small, light, and, at only 20% full, lighter than normal. They spread us evenly in the cabin before take off. It was already swinging side to side like mad on take off from Aberdeen when the winds were just picking up. I found it exciting; others less so.
  5. Just checking in from Stavanger. The above was what I was worried about the morn. In fact when I crossed the 4RB north at maybe 11:00, the southbound lane was shut due do some sort of accident on the bridge. Maybe wind related. Traffic backed up a long way into fife. Anyway, it was well windy in the central belt when I drove up but fine towards Aberdeen. However, by the time I flew out of Aberdeen at 16:00 the wind seemed to have picked up. Plane was a smallish / light turboprop and at 20% full, was all over the place as it took off. Quite a few nervous faces in the cabin! Here in Stavanger it's damp, breezy and mildish. Typically scottish weather really.
  6. Sure. More bad weather on the drive up from Edinburgh I was worried about. Overturned lorries etc. However, I should be fine as I'm flying before 4 pm and the winds peak later. Stavanger for a day for work. And nae snaw there either.
  7. Pants. I'm supposed to be flying out of Aberdeen this afternoon. Better set off as early as possible I guess and hope for the best.
  8. Aye, mind my folks had something a wee bit similar many years ago. Raclette is haggis, neep and tatties in the Haute Savoie though, so never 'out of fashion'. And delicious too. --- 1.9 C here, but with the DP comfortably below freezing, my snaw is hanging around just fine.
  9. Wee snaw shower passing through. T dropping away. In celebration of the snaw, trying out the alpine raclette kit I got for Xmas from my French sister/brother in law. This sort of thing: EDIT Aw man am I stuffed. Melted raclette on 'jambon cru' on tatties is no exactly diet food. Good for cold weather though and heartily recommended.
  10. Well, been not much action for a while here, although snaw remains largely intact. T = 2.2 but DP is -1.6 which explains snaw not disappearing in a hurry. Forecast and radar say I might get a few more showers overnight. If this lot freezes up some of the local roads will be well nasty in the morning.
  11. Went to get some messages. Took camera. Was a blizzard on the way there (Earlston), then shower had passed on the way back. Snawin again now. 5 cm lying. T = 0.5 C.
  12. 4 cm or so now here. Going to go for some winter driving soon. EDIT. Shower passing through. Wind blaws a hoolie as a result. Currently like a scene fae Scott o' the Antarctic out there.
  13. About a cm here. Possibly 2, but wind has blown it against west facing things. EDIT. Another shower starting. Nice. Blawin a hoolie blizzard conditions as it batters through.
  14. Aye. Said cold front is on the radar right now over Scotland; it's the trailing edge that is supposed to see the temps / DPs drop and bring snaw. Running maybe Inverness to Belfast right now. Prep in NW Scotland turning wintry as a result, e.g. Braemore. Worth watching the Braemore cams to see the transition occurring over the next few hours: http://trafficscotland.org/livetrafficcameras/view/?cam=76
  15. It's the calm before the storm. Or calm after and before or something; 'Schrodinger's calm' maybe. Had a red sky as the sun went down earlier. Not sure what shepherds were making of that.
  16. Latest fax as of 18:00. The increased prep on the radar moving in is of course our cold front which brings in the snaw (on its trailing edge). Wee troughs behind it testament to the instability of the air.
  17. Still hanging here at 5 C in the SE. Colder air does seem to be moving in quicker than expected. I note the MetO have moved my rain to snaw transition to an hour earlier. Maybe will see this shift again.
  18. That's no a snaw warning, it's a horizontal snaw / blizzard warning. You're right though, probably jinxed now. I mean they even mention Thundersnaw, which is just asking for light drizzle and a modest breeze.
  19. If you hover the mouse over the quote, you should see a little box with a cross in it on the upper left hand side above it. If not, refresh and it should be there. Click it to highlight the quote box then press delete... --- Fair blawin a hoolie here. Just heard a bang in the neighbour's garden; not sure what it was! Light's flickered too. Glad the work I'm doing at home today is laptop based... Hope my recycling is still there for the bin men.
  20. Biblical rain here right now. Absolutely thrashing down. Not sure how I can make it to the car to go to work without getting soaked.
  21. A good day for generating 'S***e Weather Energy ' (© Scotland) anyway.
  22. Never a good sign when you can't see Scotland on the radar. Or Ireland for that matter.
