I get Christmas dinner tonight + pressies! In laws are French and that's how they do it. Who am I to argue. Another lunch the morn too. Aw man they've brought some good wines and champers: I was still at school when some were bottled. Will make up for the lack of snaw. Have nice Christmas eve all. Great to hear some are getting a wee white one.

I first put on skis on the small dry slope at the back of Aviemore centre. Probably 1981-2 aged 6. Remember the first time my parents dumped me 'up the hill' at 7.30 in the morning. Every School holiday I was going to be forced up at the crack of dawn to the miserable cold and sleet of the hill. 'You're learning to ski son; that's it. ok'. I was horrified. Soon fell in love with it. Never looked back. Aye, those were the days.

On the topic of Aviemore... Jeez. That's quite bad flooding. ----- EDIT And still on the topic of Aviemore. For those that remember the skiing heydays, this site has some great photos of 'Auld Aviemore'. Santa Claus land, bright pink ski suits and tashes / sideburns etc. Includes plenty of snow photos too. http://auldaviemore.moonfruit.com/ A real trip down memory lane for those who remember that period.

As a native of Carrbridge I hope you are enjoying your new home. Hogmanay is great in the area; Cairn Hotel in Carrbridge is brilliant (I'm obviously biased); usually music into the wee small hours. For great local music (a good way of getting through the long winter nights), I can recommend going to listen to this group if they are playing at a local hotel/pub: http://www.annedicksonband.co.uk/ Also 'Gilly' who often plays with his brother Fergie as 'The Brothers Gilly'. I see this on his facebook for example: THE BROTHERS GILLY will be playing on the First Of Jan 2016 from 3'oclock in the afternoon until 7'oclock in the evening at The Macdui Inn, Aviemore You can say Hi from me; close family friends (my mother used to sing with Anne and Gilly many years ago). Mind and first foot the neighbours if you can!

Och mine is just one of those £30 things that gives T and RH inside and out. Enough for me. I suppose I could get a rain gauge but wind measurements would be pointless as I'm surrounded by trees. I've had it maybe 7 years and it worked well enough; when T/DP said it should be snaw, it was... It's had some battery leakage probs as well, so now that the outdoor sensors seems to be giving rubbish for RH, I'll just get new one of the same type.

Aye, we had the same one storm a couple of years back. We're pretty sheltered by trees, but even they couldn't stop serious wind at just the right angle blowing rain actually up and under windowframes and into some rooms. Builders don't seem to consider that water can flow uphill in Scotland sometimes!

I think he's an erse at times too, but he does do some decent investigative journalism, hence the high readership. Anyway not the thread for such things. I didn't mean to cause any offence when I posted that retweet. I know what Amazon are like and I think the original tweeter wasn't gloating, but making a light-hearted joke about the bridge situation with Christmas coming up. Certainly, I imagine Amazon Fife are not in the least pleased about the bridge situation! Not good at all for many, but I like the way people are generally taking it with humour.

Someone who some people don't like due to the content and huge popularity of blog, wingsoverscotland.com Anyway, just been out to the shops. It's really been not that bad here. The rain the other day ahead of that surprise snow was much worse. Just a few big puddles mainly this time, so far at least. Seems rain shadow is acting as a decent buffer for the eastern borders.
