  1. Shall oblige tonight with a pic of my favourite, just handy to see from the kitchen when I'm washing up or making a cuppa. laos ideally placed when i stand outside the back door having a smoke. Never know, might even catch a few flakes in its glow or is that being too optimistic Off to the photo section now, what settings to use for low light? my guess would be spot meter on the light itself
  2. Excellent Mrsf16, nice to put a face to a name Thought it only fair I practised what I preached, so pic updated now too Here's hoping this cold spell puts a smile on all our faces, nice to see the sun here for a change as well
  3. Had a brief graupel shower first thing, but nothing since although its clouding up a bit now Poor old Julie got a bashing there, personally think she is a very pleasant lady in both appearance and manner Presumably the critics are so incredibly attractive and well dressed that they would be more than happy to go before the cameras everyday Not many real pics in the avatars that I can see though
  4. Time to raise the St Ives snowshield Held firm in January and looks ready for another test in the coming days Did notice the Ants scurrying about gathering bits up, they nearly got snowed in last time
  5. I can remember being on holiday mid 1990's in Devon during February half term week and it was so warm that there were people sitting on the beach at Wembury Bay. We were walking about in tee shirts and sat outside one place eating ice creams, started on the Tuesday after dense fog on the Monday Not impossible and after all this cold it would be great to have another week like that to take the chill from my old bones
  6. Although very inexperienced in this model interpretation that was my take on it all I agreed with you last week and do now, winter is still with us, but can't see a full blown reversion to extreme cold and think we may be seeing the encore rather than the main gig
  7. I now have a Canon 500D with a Sigma 17-70, 10-20 and a Canon 55-250, nothing too lavish, but all three are decent samples and serve my purposes Also have a very old Manfrotto 055 CBPRO with a much newer Cullmann ballhead and that's about it apart from a Kata rucksack to carry it all in Mainly landscape stuff for me with the odd building here and there Cheers
  8. Should have mentioned the well regarded Tokina is the 11-16 not the 12-24. Still don't think the Canon is that much better given the extra cost and its a bloody cheek to then charge another 30 quid for a hood which is quite important on these wide angle lenses Hope you enjoy whatever you get, certainly a different aspect at 10mm, just watch out you don't include your feet or shadow
  9. General consensus of opinion leans towards the Canon not surprisingly its more expensive I have the Sigma 10-20, its well built and gives nice sharp images, but there does seem to be a difference between samples and some are allegedly a bit soft Bought mine secondhand on a photo website where I got to see sample pics and would suggest that's a good idea or perhaps buy from a high st shop where you could return it if needed Another one to consider is the Tokina equivalent, very well regarded and often said to be better than the two you mentioned All depends on what you want to spend too and for that the Sigma cannot be beaten
  10. having cast my less than expert eyes over the models reckon you could be spot on with that assessment Like a good gig with a short but exciting encore before the lights go down on this winter Couldn't grumble about that and then look forward to spring
  11. Will we get dusting,? just nuisance value now and would rather it didn't bother Actually not been very severe here at all, had colder temps in recent years and more snow too, not very memorable at all from a personal point of view That isn't bah humbug, just fact and needs to do something to write 2009/10 in the bad winter file for me
  12. Not sure if there will be anything left by the time it reaches here (if it does at all) Very strange watching the front come from the west, got used to looking to the east and then seeing it all dissipate before it gets to me
  13. You need the St Ives shield, works a treat and guaranteed to keep all snow away no matter what any forecast or model predicts
  14. Sorry about that, just chucked a couple of ice cubes out on the patio to even things up
  15. Just been out for a smoke and is indeed snowing lightly in St Ives
  16. Not an expert on extenders, but think they need an aperture of f/5.6 or less to autofocus which I reckon you won't get with your lens at 300mm Best get a second opinion on that, but you might need a faster lens for that sort of focal distance
  17. Won't notice a thaw here, haven't had anything to watch go Most dissappointing spell of weather I can remember for this part of the world. Wasted far too much time on here and totally fed up with waking up expectantly to find nothing Still it should cut the heating bills a bit and no more scraping the car Au revoir for now from a miserable damp St Ives
  18. Oh well, the cold spell brought us nothing and seems like the warmer spell won't either So much promise and no result, comparable to a great night out with a really hot lady that all ends with a peck on the cheek
  19. Paging TEITS Please give us all your view on this matter I'm going for snow coming in across the North Sea and giving the N and W Cambs people what they have been waiting for, but that's an optimistic evaluation
  20. Hate to say this, but will we finally see some snow here in St Ives Surely we can't miss out again or could we?
  21. Must say I have all but given up now, just seems that it isn't our year in this tiny part of the world
  22. Bring back Huntingdonshire, now that really would be the no sonow capital of the UK Huntingdon, St Ives and St Neots, hardly a thimble full of the white stuff between them
  23. Glad to see all the different coun ties represented, but what is officially EA Assuming Cambs,Norfolk and Suffolk Or is Essex also included?
