the storm hadon'ten modelled to go a tad more left of the uk than initially thought, but I don't think the exact details are in yet and it won't be nailed until within 12 hours or so or possibly on the event itself - storm Emma could kick us really hard - digging out for days afterwards

Exciting times. Thanks Andy for the Reply.

  3. Have posted it Andy.   Can I ask that what would need to change for Ireland not to get the blizzards (as they are predicted to get the worse of it) for us then to be maybe getting what they are forcast too? A few days ago I thought we were meant to get the most and then vaguely remember that it changed. Only asking as their  forecast uses the word "blizzard" but ours says snow and wind. Thanks.

  4.  I fancy a good moan. Not saw one flake of snow this year in South East Wales where I live and only a couple of flakes the last few winters. I seriously got hooked, line and sinkered into thinking it would be winter/spring wonderland and now have (by the looks of it) freezing rain to look forward too. Horrible/dangerous useless stuff. Oh and also I look a right plonker again warning all my colleagues/friends/family and making them all stock pile on supplies. Lol oh well, hope we have a great spring.

  5. I have to admit to being ever so excited. I remember the 1978 (I believe) blizzards in Hanham where I grew up, I was 10 years old and it was so utterly amazing amd magical. Thats where I got my love of snow from. We had to get neighbours digging each other out of their doors  it was incredible and no matter if it was not as bad this time (not that I expect anywhere near that) but too have a little reminder of the power of nature would be amazing.

    Chief Forecaster's assessment

A weather system moving east across southern England is likely to bring a mix of heavy rain and snow. 15-25 mm of rain is likely quite widely within the warning area with some places receiving 30-40 mm. As the rain becomes increasingly heavy, it is likely to turn to snow in places, initially over parts of Wales and perhaps the Peak District then over central England in the early hours of Wednesday. Snow may fall to increasingly low levels, giving a cm or two in places. with 2-5 cm accumulating locally above 100 m, and perhaps 10 cm in a few places. These larger amounts are more likely over Wales whilst East Anglia and Lincolnshire see little or no snow. There is low confidence in the balance between rain and snow with marked variations likely from place to place in the amounts of any snow

  7. It is all so confuzzeling.... one minute in south west thread the champagne was on ice and i was getting hopeful and excited and next time I looked, champagne was put back in the cupboard and it is very deflating. Just going to look out the window tomorrow and see what falls from the sky. Good luck to everyone though who wants the snow.

  8. Hi Guys and Gals, Happy New Year to you all and more importantly Good luck getting the snow ;-), exciting evening of lamp post watching is hopefully on the cards, you just can't beat it.    Happy Birthday Jay.

We in Wales and the Southwest tend to be the forgotten ones when it comes to discussion of snow potential in the MOD thread. I would definitely be in support of merging the Wales and SW&CS England threads - it's the best part of England, after all! - so that we can all band together. I can see the North Devon coast if I walk to the top of one of the nearby hills and my family is descended from Somersetters who moved here during the industrial revolution, so we even have personal connections to the West Country in South Wales. :D

I expect there'd be opposition to my merging idea from both Southwesterners and the Welsh though!

Totally agree. I am a Bristolian living just over the severn bridge in Magor and I would love the merging idea as well. ;-)     Fingers crossed we will all get lucky (if it is snow you like) at least sometime this winter.
