  1. Not overly confident on this system on Saturday, but plenty of time for southward corrections yet, so fingers crossed. If it becomes a consistent trend over the next few runs it may end up being very interesting. As it stands now, nothing much to be terribly excited about south of the heads of the valleys imo.
  2. This is the worst kind of weather. Still a cold 3ºC, but with a dewpoint of 2ºC, it's raining!
  3. Had about another centimetre from that beefy shower that passed through earlier, flakes were huge at one point. Can't see us getting anything out of that main front, it's fizzling out on its western edge.
  4. This heavy blob has my name on it! I just hope it doesn't lose intensity or change course.
  5. This is the problem with snow, it's impossible to be satisfied. We're always left wanting more. I had about four inches early this morning and a brief shower just now, but it's not enough. I want more!
  6. It has been aligned more North-South until recently, but now seems to be tilting more NW-SE thankfully. We really need it to tilt or it will rush through too quickly.
  7. I wouldn't be surprised to see an amber warning being issued for some parts of Wales soon. If that does happen, I'm pulling an all-nighter with some wine! I am very quiet in here mostly, unless I feel that there is something to get genuinely excited about. Channel lows normally correct southwards, but this one is forming to the west of Ireland and tracking ESE. An odd situation this, with so much uncertainty as usual. If the pivoting of the front occurs just a little more west than forecast, this could be a very significant event. I just hope I don't wake later this morning to find out that the whole thing has been downgraded significantly for us. I have an entire facebook group ready to party with me over this!
  8. Six hours later and we STILL have the most rain falling over Wales! Way more than the amber warning area have had! But we don't count obviously. Normally I'm not bothered about this sort of thing, but this winter I have noticed more than ever, the blatant IMBYism from SE England members in the mod thread. Ironically, they've been accusing others of the same thing. I know that xenophobia from Welsh people toward the English exists too, and I don't condone that either. But this year I have never felt so excluded being a Welshman reading the mod thread! I'm really not sure why, but others in here have noticed it too. The SE England bias seems to be unusually strong this year!
  9. We currently have the heaviest rain in the country! Quite ridiculous really. Only a yellow warning though. Doesn't matter if we all drown though I guess, we're only Welsh!
  10. Had a slight covering earlier, but by the time that big heavy blob arrived it was wet snow and now turning very sleety. What a waste!
  11. I love this forum, I very rarely post in here because even though I've been a member of this site for years, I'm still not that confident about reading the charts. There are some posters in here that I respect immensely, and I know the ones I trust to give a realistic view. It has to be said though, lately there's been more drama queens in here than RuPaul's drag race! It's been quite amusing at times. On a serious note though, it can be very very confusing in here at times with some posters claiming that it's all looking good for cold, and then the next post is from someone claiming there's no cold showing in the charts! It can be really difficult to get to grips with what's going on. I'm certainly not having a go at anyone in particular, just pointing out that it can be quite bewildering in here at times and it's difficult to gauge who is being balanced about it all. Year after year it never ceases to amaze me how difficult it is to actually get some decent cold/snowy weather here in the UK. But I guess that's the curse of being an island on the edge of an ocean. Anyway, I'll shut up now. At least I have seen some snow here in Wales this winter, albeit short-lived.
  12. I'm sure I'm not alone here, but there is a real depressing anti-climax after a snow event. Especially if there isn't another one in the foreseeable future!
  13. There's some pretty intense stuff to the east which is moving west, it's not over yet
  14. Not necessarily. But then it wasn't forecast to last for ages anyway.
  15. Yes, sticky snow always looks much nicer than the powdery stuff that blows around.
  16. I think it will continue for hours yet, varying in intensity. Sometime almost stopping but it's pepping up to our east and it's drifting westwards now the front has pivoted. To be honest though, I'm pretty happy with what I have already. Going for a walk in this snow is nothing short of magical.
  17. There's hours left in this yet! I'm really pleased with how this had gone tbh, ok so it's not as disruptive as we were led to believe but everywhere is white, the snow is continually falling with varying intensity. What's not to like?
  18. To be honest, I think the met office amber warning was justified. The front pivoted a bit later than expected that's all and the precip was less heavy. These things happen.
  19. Plenty of life in this system yet! Several hours of light to moderate snow I think. It's not going to be a foot deep for us but still a decent event in my opinion.
  20. I'd say there's periods of light to moderate snow for a good few hours yet at least.
  21. The precip will probably lose intensity as it moves over us, yellows will turn to green and green to dark blue - but this event is not over yet!
  22. There's a nice green blob over Cardiff right now. I lived in Thornhill for 10 years and I know there can be much more up there than the city centre.
