  1. for those going on holiday this weekend to Cornwall North Devon anywhere facing the Atlantic, TS Cindy or EXTS Cindy may make for quite a large swell i haven't checked any of the surf models/forecasts but i suspect there may be big surf so watch out if going in the sea, for those more land lubber types, may produce some good wave photo opportunities as the swells hit headlands, harbour walls etc. just do not get too close and put yourself in danger of being swept away if it does happen oops meant to post this in tropical storm thread never mind, reference too Coasts comment in his post above "Cindy still on her way!"
  2. and the ihop we had lunch in on t2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boNiDyrgsmQ

  5. looks like heavy rain in Guernsey http://www.surecw.co...account/webcam/
  6. Book the Best Western Irving just phone the hotel from airport they pick you up for free got there own shuttle minibus, BEWARE when booking hotel as some booking sites price in $ and some others in £ ie. $60 or £60 the same amount of £ as $ which is a big price difference hold the booking on your credit card i use a caxton $ card me i hope to return in 2013 after 2 tours
  7. hope the storms hang off till this evening want to film the seals on Blakeney Point from a kayak late this afternoon, suspect looking at models/charts storms will initiate to my west later then move eastwards across North Norfolk then hope for some nice anvil crawlers as storms pass over me i have my complete storm chase outfit with me so everything crossed as this is the best storm setup in uk for years
  8. I will be in Blakeney, Norfolk on monday , mondays storms hope for some lightning photos storm out to sea would be amazing nice place for photos so please no downgrades or positional changes waiting cam batteries on charge now
  9. great time as always a bit of a disappointment after the previous years t2 but if you want to chase the weather you have to take what comes, will be back for more fun if not next year i will manage 2013 somehow to those who are thinking of booking do not be put off t3 got plenty, 2010 was a good year for all the tours hopefully the weather in the plains will be back to normal next year and everyone one will snag a tornado or more, between supercells you will get to see some city/names (why they call even small villages cities i don't know but i suppose everything is big in texas lol) straight out of the old cowboy movies and other films some of them still look the same almost you might even get to see floating mountains and cars stuck in the ground
  10. great pics and a great final chase day for t4
  11. for the poster looking for Kings Lynn webcams http://www.kingslynnonline.com/weather-travel/southgates-webcam and http://norfcoast.blogspot.com/2009/03/heacham-webcam-from-positive-computing.html looks a bit wet on Kings Lynn cam
  12. can not believe its nearly all over what am i going to track on GRL3 and watch on gps and cam now, hope you snag another Tornado before home
  13. looks reasonable 2% tornado risk copy from spc: ...CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS... THE PRESENCE OF STEEP MIDLEVEL LAPSE RATES AND STRONG SURFACE HEATING ALONG THE FRONT RANGE OF NERN CO/SERN WY TODAY COMBINED WITH POST-FRONTAL UPSLOPE FLOW AND SWLY FLOW ALOFT WILL RESULT IN AN SHEAR ENVIRONMENT FAVORABLE FOR TSTM DEVELOPMENT...WITH SUPERCELLS LIKELY. ALTHOUGH INSTABILITY WILL BE MARGINAL /MLCAPE AOB 500 J PER KG/...DUE TO LIMITED MOISTURE...MODELS AGREE THAT OVERALL TSTM COVERAGE WILL BE SUFFICIENT TO MAINTAIN A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE STORMS. wish i was there from what i have looked at on google pics fantastic scenery
  14. on a budget i would go for the Canon 1100D (it also does 720p video) but if you can afford it go up to 550D or 600D (1080p HD video saves buying a camcorder) + don't forget a lens if you can stretch to it the Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 EX DC HSM is a stormchasers favorite used by lots on Stormtrack good wide angle for structure and lightning shots plus a bit of zoom in to get that tornado a bit closer its a good lens at half the price of a similar Canon Lens plus spare batteries 2 minimum (i use ebay ones they work ok the ones i have anyway) plus a uv filter and perhaps a polarising filter for lenses don't forget a tripod (buy one out there) and plenty of memory cards the bigger the better especially if your going to do any videos plus a padded camera bag buy a good one as lots of travelling involved i once had a sony cam damaged in overhead bin on plane during a very turbulent flights including 2 aborted landings at 1000ft or less !
  15. 'chionomaniac' I ate them by accident - they are very chewy!! Mountain Oysters "if you think its seafood go with the shrimp"
  16. my lightning trigger photo and video of the close lightning strike Carthage Missouri on the outskirts of Joplin sorry i only uploaded it in only SD as i uploaded it on my wireless broadband and HD would of taken a big chunk out of my 3gig monthly allowance i will post it to vimeo/youtube in HD soon
  17. last saturday. on flight home travelled up the mississipi valley (dodging some suprecells to the west ) the flooding then was massive including some of tributaries huge tracts of country inundated
  18. what do the newbies on tour 3 think so far?
  19. the anoying thing for me is when i booked i nearly went for tour 3 then noticed that it had a bank holiday in it and thought it might be tricky getting that time of work as i have to work them
  20. I was watching a tv programe about Alaska and what the residents do in there very cold dark weather in the middle of winter they have BBQ's they go outside and enjoy themselves they sit outside bye BBQ and have a beer
  21. just looked at the latest nws briefings spc i think i would now drop a bit south from Ponca City (where because i got up at 5am i had breakfast and lunch and looked at the early models) if i was chasing as the storms further north near triple point may be HP near the Kansas border further south hopefully Discrete and as they pass Oklahoma City I35 line very mature and tornadic may even jog a bit east back towards I35 to catch em a bit earlier as storm motion is predicted to be aprox 30mph still plenty of time for further fine tuning. anyway guys and gals on tour 3 have a great day plenty of video and photo ops today lets hope the storms don't cause much residential damage today as some rather large cities are in the firing line will watch when i get home from work looks like all the online tv stations are gearing up already saying they will have chasers/spotters in the field today update yikes initiation in the next hour or 2 already Dogs you jammy ***
  22. strong updraft today will remove said cap and the great tornado god will take possession of it
  23. my best guess I35 north of Oklahoma play day today perhaps east to Ponca City or similar position to drive towards oncoming storms for positioning quick look at this mornings models seem to show most simulated composite reflectivity over southern Kansas suspect the storm front may be quite stretched out today from Oklahoma City northwards will be lots of chaser hordes and storms today for definate what am i missing if i was there i would already be up at 5 waiting to go
  24. Joplin has taken a hit before may 5th 1971 there is a book about it click on cover to see pics only 1 death and 50 injured then but quite a lot of damage sadly there will no doubt be a new version of this book http://www.joplinpub...ado_booklet.php
