Apparently Rickmansworth is an interesting example of an artificial frost hollow, caused by building a railway embankment across a valley that effectively traps cold air. Even in summer, months where no ground frost is recorded here are rare.

Another impressive diurnal range of 18.0c today (min -6.9c to max 11.1c).

Capel Curig has had a range of over 21c today!

From -8c min to a 13.4c max.

I would also cite the tendency for days with very low humidity in March / April to also be a factor in making spring the most diurnal of the seasons

Yes, and that's also very much a factor at present. I haven't double checked the Rh values, but I did note Mr Bown spotting LGW with an 11/-6 split today, which if correct is indicative of very low humidity.

Not stopping the fog kicking in tonight though: slight change in air mass I suspect.

That's an enormous jump.

Yes, the humidity must've been very low recently....I keep getting static electric shocks when I stroke my cat!
